Wolfkostin/Tsarevsky #1 - 64+…love it!!! This was famous “Missing Guy” … now going vs his old partner Flores. 🍿

Whoa - 67.22 for Neset/Markelov! Let's pray for no injuries in the next several weeks so they can make an early JGP debut this year!

57.87 for Lavrova/Rogers - not too shabby.

Hauer/Starr 59.14 - nearly 3 points behind the Peals.

Ilin/Cain 47.30 - not a great day for any of the teams coming up from novice level this season.

Yeah, I was think the same about Epps/Gilman, who probably weren't expecting to be behind several rising novices and brand new teams. They can likely count out getting a JGP this season unless they manage to pull a blinder in Lake Placid.

And we're off!

May everyone get good feedback and make progress. It does seem like there is so little time between now & Lake Placid. I think debuting at the Chesapeake Open was probably better for teams looking for feedback & time to strengthen programs on their way toward earning JGP berths; but it is great to see we have an interesting mix and it will be fun to see how things change going ahead.

The RD is usually Ilin & Cain's strength. It's highly likely they can do better in this portion of the event at least.

Given that Silicon Valley Open is a couple of days after Lake Placid, we could see some teams choose to go there instead, especially if they're already based on the West Coast or in Colorado since the travel to San Jose is going to be infinitely shorter and cheaper than going to upstate NY. Those are the only two events left for junior teams to make an impression and push for some of those initial JGP assignments.

It would be nice if there was another Ice Dance NQS event in late August or early September. Alas, it is what it is.

Senior RD report

Note that black netting to catch pucks was up so everything was viewed through the net. Also, it's very early in the senior season so most programs still look like a work-in-progress as they should at this point in the season.

Wolfkostin/Tsarevski: Battle of the leathers with F/D. Hers had green accents. Best twizzles of event. Lift was somewhat careful. Nice skating together, could probably add more choreo and performance flair as the season continues. She wore her hair down and it was covering her face a lot. Maybe should do a high ponytail instead with the teased hair? The best program technically.

Flores/Desyatov: Leather outfit with purple. Good expression, both skaters take up space and perform. Had an assisted shoot-the-duck of sorts into the twizzles--and he immediately had difficulty with the first twizzle and she missed the second. Got it back together. Probably deserved the highest PCS since they skated with good speed, spacing, and commitment to the choreography.

Ling/Wein: Small balance check from him in twizzle. Good rotational lift. Solid basics. Good bones to the program, needs more emotional expression.

Larson/Kapran: They embraced the theme with “I’m So Excited” and “It’s Raining Men”. High energy fun program with a nicely-performed lift.

Koncius/Shchepetov: Outfit looked like a 1950's polka dot top and pants for her. Music sounded 50ish, though I guess it's 80's rockabilly. Stands out, but feels like a bit of a stretch away from what was intended.

Carhart/Kolosovskyi: Smooth, but slow.

Kowar/Schwappach – tentative in expression, nice assisted somersault lift. They looked a bit stronger in warm-up than when they competed.

@TanithandBenFan - if these are the music choices we're getting at the first US domestic comp of the season and we already have multiple uses of the same songs ("I'm So Excited", "Bad", and "Under Pressure"), I think we need to resign ourselves to this being a very long, mostly unoriginal season of music choices. I know that hope was springing eternal in the RD thread over in GSD, but I'd say these lists pretty much confirm that ship sailed months ago.

Junior RD report

Caveat that it's early in the season, though these teams really do need to be ready to go since JGP starts soon.

Neset/Markelov: Blue and black for her, black outfit with red and blue accents for him. They continue to be in a class by themselves. Complete program with good expression. I do wish they would work on their posture. I do not care for the pitched forward position on their third twizzles, though they handled them fine. Dramatic sliding and difficult somersaulty lift. They look ready to go internationally. :)

Peal/Peal: Black jumpsuits. I noticed halfway through the program that I hadn't taken any mental notes yet, which is great--their program drew me in. Commanding performance. He put a foot down pretty quickly at end of twizzle in the steps. They had a cool (if you're into :rollin: on the ice moves, which the ISU is) back somersault sliding sequence.

Hauer/Starr: Purple and black outfits with the aforementioned fitted shirt. Bold to skate their PD to "Simply the Best" though I agree. Their pattern was performed with strength and surety. She had a slight error on her twizzle. Still looking for panache from this couple. I'd love to see what Hubbell could do for their performance quality.

Lavrova/Rogers: I am impressed by this new pairing. They have great matching body lines and similar good knee bend as they go through the steps. Twizzles were far apart, which was a telltale sign that it's a new pairing, but other than that, they didn't look like a new team. Should be in the hunt for a JGP spot.

Mullen/Mullen: Muted pink outfit. Good twizzles. Skated very close together. Well matched and connected with music and with each other. Add them to the ISP, please.

Pedersen/Chen: I was a little surprised they were this high. Definitely felt like a new couple working on their spacing and having to reach for each other. Good choice of lift (she on his shoulders) which looked quite stable and secure. She put her foot down during the second twizzle. Now :soapbox: time. They slowed "Under Pressure" way down--maybe a good strategy to distract the judges while doing the pattern steps, but it sounded awful.

Calhoun/Veselukhin: Nice and clean skating, though a bit small. Fun moonwalking into twizzles during steps.

Ilin/Cain: Didn't quite have their feet underneath them. They each wobbled on one of the twizzles and he had a shaky step during the pattern dance. Picked up the tempo nicely during the "So Excited" portion and had a good lift.

Renzi/Lissauer: Nice danceable skating. He lost the second twizzle. Fun music-- Holding Out for a Hero" and "Footloose." Great lift.

Cui/Eckert: These two have a great foundation with nice glide on their steps and emerging presentation. He bobbled through the twizzles. "Under Pressure" played at the correct speed. :respec:

Stapert/Korotcov: They were one of the earlier teams, and they could have possibly been placed higher if they had skated later. He wobbled on the second twizzle, but overall, it was smooth skating. Could probably add speed and power to improve their PCS scores.

Epps/Gilman: Le sigh. Really not their day. She had a sparkly top/patchwork skirt. This program still looked like they were thinking through the choreography. Serious expressions followed by quick smiles and then back to somber. They were out of sync on the first twizzles and it just looked hard. They've got a lot of spark so I hope they come back strong next time.

@Karen-W was right, in her above post #86.

My own feelings: The Great 1980s Hit Parade, that everyone anticipated months ago, IS ON A ROLL! Oh, I’m so excited!

Is it normal that the start orders are listed but not the technical panel? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it not listed together. Seems odd.
This has been the weirdest skating-competition matrix ever - no schedule by day, per event. No timed schedule/separation by dates. No list of officials ahead of time. Will there be a special list for today? Guess not…just continue the one list:
