I like the direction this is going but it still feels not quite fully cooked. Have they had an injury to deal with or something? All of their lifts have seemed very rough. I know it's early in the season but still.

Even in practice footage, he was falling on a lift. Weird.

Kazakova/Revia - I was nervous about Schindler's List and even more so on seeing the red dress, but that was mostly nicely done. I'm glad they tried to capture the feeling and didn't go for any dramatic enactments. They need to drop the voiceover though. Some novel positions in the lifts and spin.

Yeah the voiceovers are what truly had me going "but what if we didn't" and y'all know I love a good voiceover

Green/Parsons should not be getting this kind of score even with a fall out of the twizzles. They're such a special team and I'm worried this judging panel has been too harsh on them (even considering their form) and is setting the tone for their season... Let's hope they can polish their programs quickly.

Taschlers - sorry, got distracted and wasn't paying super-close attention. I like her dress - very flattering for her body type - I really need Oona Brown to get in touch with that designer.

Taschlers - Most of the FD feels pretty similar to last year's. They pick some really heavy themes but I think they do best at fun and melodrama. Sorry, if they must have the self voiceover at least do it in Czech. Straight line part of the combo lift is fantastic, curve lift they’ve used before. One foot step not yet having the same impact as last year. Very clean for an early performance from them, they’re not giving way to the Mrazeks!

At least we can be confident that Gilles/Poirier won’t do any board grabbing.

I'm not in love with this program for the Taschlers and I feel like it kind of highlights their lack of polish on moves.

I just told DH that this program wastes their speed and power, the Finns would do it Justice. And he liked it the best of the last group which is all he’s seen.

I feel like I'm being mean today but these are some great teams and I want them all to have fantastic programmes. Maybe Zanni could bring in some outside choreographers next year.

Taschlerova & Taschler: They've shown up really ready, which is what they needed to do. Using this opportunity. (They have both the pressure of their younger countrymen behind them now + the pressure of trying to live up to their climb in the ranks last season). The program lost me for a bit there in the middle, where it feels less finished & more choregraphically empty; but overall a great competition for them and a great start to their season.

I'm very interested to see Chock/Bates and Gilles/Poirer now because while this program is lovely, I'm not sure it has anything particularly memorable about it, which is something the other two teams excel at

GuiFab - oh, I like these costumes! Love the combo lift! Not sure about the spinny entrance into the dance spin - seemed a bit clunky or that she needs to work on being fully extended? Really lovely program from them!

Guignard/Fabbri - Execution was fab but unfortunately it seems like last season's better programmes were an aberation not a new trend. Lots of music cuts but they’re all kind of samey. I don’t like the hand variation in the twizzles where it looks like the music should be Baby Shark. Caught her skirt on her blade but luckily on the closing move.

Guignard & Fabbri: And that's how it's done, kids. Not at all my thing, and we'll have to see how it stacks up against the other medal contenders; but a lesson in the difference that lies between climbing the ranks and the expertise that comes from the top. The turns are so quick. The performance is throughout, with no breaks. And the lift with the bent knees was gorgeous.
