For this poll I will include who could likely be the medalists from what seems to be the confirmed list. There appears to be a lot of entries this time around, so that is a good thing.

Where do you see a confirmed entries list?

Also - Neither Efimova/Mitrofanov nor McBeath/Parkman are able to compete internationally yet - Alisa will get her release next April and Danill will get his release in December.

This year's dates for John Nicks are Sept. 6-7 (I was planning to start a joint competition thread in Kiss & Cry with the Middle Atlantics NQS in NYC).

ETA that I see from the GS post linked below that no source link was provided so I guess we'll have to wait and see if the pairs listed will show up to compete.

👍

As a non-member of Kiss and Cry, I thought maybe this thread would be an acceptable place to mention that Skating Club of New York's page (which is updated for 2023) says:

" ... there will be prize money and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each event John Nicks Pairs Challenge events."

Is prize money something new this year for Nicks event? 🤔
I don't recall hearing anything about prize money for the first or second year of Nicks, but maybe I missed it.
Anyway, glad to learn that prize money apparently is in effect this year. 💸
(I do not see it mentioned in 2023 Nicks announcement.)

Wishing Enkina/Kovalenko 🇮🇱 a good debut at JGP Austria this week. 🙏 🎉

I saw that SC of NY now has a John Nicks Challenge Pairs schedule linked from their website for those in the NYC area who might like to attend on Wednesday, Sept. 6 or Thursday, Sept. 7 in the WEST Rink at Sky Rink, Chelsea Piers, New York Pier 61 at 23rd Street entrance: https://www.thescny.org/images/articles/mids-2023/Nicks Schedule.pdf

Admission is $10/day or $15 for both days (includes Middle Atlantics NQS comp. events; I will start one competition thread for both competitions in the Kiss & Cry section by Tuesday).

Moss/Gal (bit of digging - I think this is Reagan Moss, but no idea who her new partner is... @Sylvia??)
Turns out Reagan Moss' new partner "Gal" is a typo for Slovakia's Jakub Galbavy, 17, whose only has 1 junior singles international (October 2021 Budapest Trophy) listed in his ISU bio: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00108053.htm
According to this 7/31 tweet that includes a link to a Slovak federation document: https://twitter.com/AnythingGOE/status/1686015386464952321
"Jakub Galbavy is released from the Slovakian federation at the request of USFS, he can compete from the 24/25 season."

I believe that there are supposed to be 3 Junior pairs scheduled to compete in the Nicks international - so of the 5 preliminary entries posted, they are: Enkina/Kovalenko (7th in their JGP Linz debut for ISR), Ashley Fletcher/Aaron Felberbaum (new this season, coached by Chris Knierim, and recently added to the ISP), and Saya Carpenter/Jon Maravilla (based at Detroit SC; ISU Junior age-eligible even though they are not listed publicly in the ISP right now).

The 2 Junior pairs scheduled to compete in the Middle Atlantics NQS are Sydney Cooke/Matthew Kennedy (new this season) and Moss/Galbavy (just edited/corrected my own 'Gablavy typo!).

I was wondering if Carpenter/Maravilla would be added to the ISP since their Skate Detroit non-NQS score was in the same range as Fletcher/Felberbaum's Battle of the Blades score.

And thank you for the impressive detective work in figuring out who Reagan Moss' new partner is!

It's a darn shame that Skate Canada didn't send/let a couple of their teams not on the JGP go down to compete - would have been good to have given their JGP alternates (Behnke/Sauve and Callahan/Roch) a shot at the Jr Worlds TES mins - and it would have given all of the teams entered WS points.

Their training rink in Bergamo confirmed today that Valesi/Piazza will be there! https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cww7Nm5LOBZ/
And Eisteam Salzburg has just confirmed Schaller/Mayr will be there!

Same with the Crafoords!

Yes, John Nicks starts on Wednesday (tomorrow) and I heard the starting orders will be drawn after the morning practice tomorrow. Are any FSUers planning to attend?

Will watch it in person
Feel free to share your impressions of the pairs competition in this thread. :)

Yes, the Mid Atlantics NQS starts Thursday. The NQS teams will be in the same slot as the international, but they are separate. Their leaderboard is in Mid Atlantics competition.
Your link is broken - if anyone can't access the John Nicks/"Mids" competition thread in Kiss & Cry, I've tweeted the Middle Atlantics NQS results link: https://twitter.com/SylviaUnseen/status/1699212861761810573
2023 Middle Atlantics (NQS for singles/pairs) starting orders are posted:
https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2023/33420/index.asp
Senior Pairs SP (3): Korytek/Chapman, Fitzpatrick/Bearinger, McBeath/Parkman (Efimova/Mitrofanov WD)
2 new Junior Pairs in SP: Reagan Moss/Jakub Galbavy, Sydney Cooke/Matthew Kennedy
ETA:

John Nicks International entries are listed on the results page: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2023/33717/index.htm

Starting orders are scheduled to be drawn tomorrow morning (my unofficial hearsay info is that Liu/Nagy have WD).

Wednesday Sched.-
Junior SP 1:15-2:15PM
Senior SP 2:30-5PM

Thursday Sched.
Junior FS 10:50-11:45AM
Senior FS 12-2:45PM

(I guess they are combining the international with NQS, since the NQS Pairs doesn't have any time slots and all the practices are mixed?)

The two events really are almost entirely combined - right down to the same judging panels for both the NQS and John Nicks, lol. The junior NQS and John Nicks have the same panels for both comps; same with the senior events - though the panels are slightly different for the junior and senior comps.

Solely from the seniors international only Chelsea and Balasz have withdrawn?

Will all the scores for the nqs still be public?

Delayed start to competition for nqs junior pairs. They are at entrance door to ice waiting to get on.
Zam is resurfacing.
The detailed time schedule has the Int'l pairs starting first???

I have been in West Rink since approx. 1:10 p, and no competition has happened at all.

Enkina/Kovalenko were standing around off ice, but nowhere near entrance door to ice.

Zam has left ice.

nqs junior pairs are on ice for warm-up now :)

Should we take the rest of the event reporting to KnC or do you not have access to that area?

Sorry, I don't belong to Kiss and Cry.

Will try to update edit any updated comments into this same post instead of making a new post every time.

Junior international pairs are on ice for warm up.

Very sunny day in NYC. Lots of reflections off hockey glass making it hard to see from spectator side.

BTW, Rena Ikenishi was ice monitor for junior nqs pairs

ETA:

2:30 pm Zam has started resurfacing after Nicks junior pairs
Hard to hear, but pretty sure announcer said NQS senior pairs will be next

2:46 NQS senior pairs warm-up in progress.
Have not seen Korytek/Chapman.
