2022 Skate America

We stayed there last year for the 2021 LPIDI. There was major construction at the site. The breakfast was boxed. Also the exercise room was closed. I understand all the repair work is finished, and it's up running with full service. It is very close to the rink.
Running full service seems to now be “blame covid for cutbacks if we can’t charge you”.

Don’t expect your room to be cleaned

I got an email from NBC Olympics with general sports news, and it has the following TV times/channels for SA coverage:

Oct 22 8:00pm EST - USA and Peacock
Oct 23 3:00pm EST - NBC and Peacock
Better check the times. "Clocks change from Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) to Eastern Standard Time (EST) on November 6th, 2022," so most of the US will still be on EDT on October 22, 23.

Yikes. Whenever I travel, hotels try to palm off that idea as being green-friendly and sustainable.
Pack a UV light to check for scary stains that can't be seen under normal conditions, just in case!

I don't care that much about my sheets being washed every day, but I do want fresh towels. Most hotels though you can't differentiate--the options are everything washed or nothing washed and I have a sneaking suspicion even when you say everything washed, they don't. But towels? I WANT MY CLEAN TOWELS. I will go full-on MechaKaren on you over towels. I will be so Karen, I will morph into Barb.

I usually request extra towels when I check in or if I need them :-)

This, so much this! You can also get backup sheets if you ask.

Remember, the suburban “mostly business travel” hotels pay at or close to minimum wage and have had the hardest time replacing the housekeeping workers they laid off in 2020. Most didn’t fully reopen until earlier this year. Do not expect 4-star amenities. And if you do get good service, remember to tip. $5 a day is a good start, but leave more if you can.

I find the mini bar to be of the utmost importance first

Now that sucker needs to be refreshed on the daily, if not twice daily

But I do understand about what you say about going Full nuclear Karen for fresh towels daily. I’ve never seen a hotel that cleans my sheets daily. I don’t know what kind of Waldorf Astoria/Fourseason situation you have going on there for someone to get their sheets washed every day

Don't know why this thread has become about hotel service/amenities...but I also bring my own plastic cups since I heard about how glasses are washed (or not) :yikes:

girlllllllll..... I’ve seen those dateline specials as well. They’ve shown housekeepers not even washing the glasses just using the same rag they used to clean the entire bathroom and Then rubbing the rag around the glasses. I won’t even put my toothbrush in glasses anymore.

I find that Lisa Rinna techniques on Beverly Hills housewives to be really good. She won’t even touch remote controls.

Thank you!

Since I greatly prefer watching the big competitions at home, here’s my plan.

1. Clean the den where the jumbo Samsung TV is located, including clearing the coffee table, ready for snacks.

2. Place favorite big comfy chair or sofa in front of TV; if a sofa, make sure that nobody sits beside you too closely…for lebensraum…and to not hit anyone as you shake the pom poms while screaming “Go, Amber!” Or “Davai, Ilia!”

3. Ensure payment of monthly Xfinity bill (& postage stamp affixed to envelope).

4. Ensure fresh batteries in the voice-activated remote control (ready to say “Peacock” with firm voice).

And of vital importance…
5. Have mini-refrigerator within view, fully stocked with favorite snacks & drinks! Nothing should take longer than a Zamboni break to prepare.

There may be additional steps for people who watch with pets. Sure as heck isn’t me! Harrumph!!!

Didn't you go to Worlds in France? (Not to compare Norwood to that  )

I like watching from home but this one is close to where my sister lives so I can go and no hotel and transportation issues so I'll be there.

OMG this was me last year. When everyone was saying that they were in section M and row 32 blah blah to find each other I was like I’m front row. Seat – sofa. Right next to the refreshment stand (minibar)! Lol

It’s very helpful to do a pre-run to your local Walgreens or CVS to stock up on Halloween candy.

In 1989. Mom & I went to many Natls & Worlds back when the only way for Americans to watch entire competitions was to be there in person. That’s no longer the ca$e. Three cheer$!!!

My mission, when attending live competitions, was to NOT be found. I went for the skating…not for the Howdy Picnic.

Interesting concept but I had a different execution

Mine was to find out where the skaters came out of, strap on a good pair of Nikes to my feet and bumrush all my favorite skaters. Get some good photos, let some of the male skaters know what room I was staying in, lol and put the “please disturb“ sign on my door. Lol
