The NFL schedule normally is released a couple weeks after the NFL Draft which takes place from April 28-30. It's normally on a weeknight, so the best guesses for the NFL schedule currently are May 10-12. A Patriots home game would be a disaster!
 
It's Head of the Charles weekend in Boston, so that could explain fewer hotel rooms available/higher rates.

There is a link to hotel reservations on the SA website (linked in the Fan Zone article posted at the beginning of this thread) but the best rates are for the non-refundable option. For a couple hotels I checked, their own website rate is the same or cheaper than the refundable rate, esp if you have AAA.
 
Gillette is far enough away from SCOB not to cause a traffic issue for those coming from the north, but would impact those arriving or trying to get out to the south if there’s a 1:00 game on Sunday. It’s easy enough to work around, though, and we locals can advise the best routes.

Hotels from Boston to Providence will be booked with Head of the Charles as well as college homecoming people. There are NOT enough fully staffed hotels yet as they are just gearing back up post pandemic. If you can find something in your budget, book it now.
 
The concession stand at the SCOB arena is actually a lot better than what’s available at many venues. You can get sandwich wraps (hot or cold), soup, fruit, baked goods, tea/coffee, and usually some hot items too like fries and chicken fingers. I usually just eat there because I’m busy during the event. There are some restaurants around but you really do need a car or Uber to get there. Parking can be a bit of an issue, so I hope they are able to reach some better arrangement for that by the time of Skate America. No venue is perfect, is I guess all I can say. There are many nice aspects to Norwood.
 
According to Google Maps, TD Garden was 15 minutes door to door from where I was staying for the 2016 World Championships. Although in reality, it was more like 30 because of the crowds, heavy snow, and endless transit delays.

Getting to Norwood would take two trains and 90 minutes.

A shame really, because I like the Canadian approach where smaller arenas make the competition up close and personal, and more alive. I remember the 1994 Skate America from Pittsburgh. It was like a 900,000 seat arena with about 20 spectators.

:confused: I don’t remember heavy snow at 2016 Worlds (i think it snowed a little on Sunday and Monday mornings?). Or transit delays, but that may have depended on where you were coming from.

Rail service to the Boston suburbs is not as....efficient...as service within the city.

There was a bit of a snow storm on the final Sunday morning (my flight out was delayed a little). But other than that it was beautiful that week. Lots of sun and fairly warm is what I remember :lol: .

My brother used to live in Sudbury and I commuted from there to Nats in 2001. It was a royal pain. Will be staying with him again but now commuting from Somerville - further from Norwood than Sudbury!

Oh well it’s a gorgeous time of year in New England. .

According to Judge Three on Twitter:

Skate America 2022 public transit: There’s a commuter rail stop less than two miles from the rink. SCOB uses the Norwood T Depot parking garage for overflow parking during large events and runs a shuttle from there to the rink.

A little snow the Monday I left for home via Amtrak..but nothing during the 8 days that I was here..
 
For those that went to the Classic last year, which sections were on the judges’ side? There’s no map on the site yet.

It was a yucky, mucky couple of days over the weekend..I'd just switched hotels from one that had a subway stop in the lower level to one close to Faneuil Hall and had to walk through the yuck. Not deep, but definitely not fun. (BarbK daughter still reminds me what I told her: "Come to Boston for the weekend. It will be spring and we can explore, watch skating, and eat cannoli.")
 
If anyone in the East Coast is planning to take the train, Route 128 (6 min from arena) has an Amtrak stop.

As far as food near the arena, there’s a shopping plaza nearby (5 min drive, if that) that has Chipotle, Starbucks, Smashburger, Panera, Whichwhich and a Wegmans with a cafe and lots of prepared food options. Also a Target and an Ulta, for our Canadian friends. There’s also a McDonald’s in the opposite direction of this shopping plaza.

As far as sit down restaurants there’s, directly across from the shopping area near the Route 128 area:

Not Your Average Joe’s - average generic American food, buffet brunch on weekends
Casa Loca - Mexican joint, ok food ( I mean, it’s suburban Boston Mexican)
Del Frisco’s - more upscale steak joint
 
For me, the best part is that the skaters typically warm-up on the walkway level. So, you can be in line for coffee while Alexa is practicing a lift next to you. I am not sure if they will restrict the skaters from warming-up there for Skate America though.

I'd go to this if YKW transmission rates are low enough. SCOB is a beautiful new arena, fits the bill for ISU event needs. Also a bonus of being near a major metro area (albeit one with a notoriously bad mass transit system that I wouldn't have relied upon anyway). Far easier for me to drive from Philadelphia to Norwood/Boston than it is for an event in Lake Placid, with much more to do beyond skating.

Although SCOB has a ticket ordering mechanism on its website, I've only ordered tickets with a general admission description. Not sure if USFSA will rely on the club website/box office to fulfill ticket orders based on an available seating chart or they will farm this out to Ticketmaster. Has anyone gone to an event with tickets sold by seating chart?

This reminds me -
During the event last August - Cranberry Cup? - TSL’s Dave Lease cornered Eteri in one of the public areas for a selfie. LOL! I guess that won’t be happening again anytime soon, for various reasons.

A friend of mine attended an event at Norwood within the last year, I think. She said the parking situation was kind of dire, but everything else was nice.
