2022 Olympic FS Team Event delayed medal ceremony - updates

Am relieved Sadovski's skate was not awarded a medal.
Even if this is meant to be funny, it's ignorant and stupid. But I guess I'm the idiot for thinking you were better than this. (And shove it with the other skaters were "clean". Please don't insult us with that garbage)

All I can figure is Canada recognizes this wasn't the team to throw down for. Or hopefully the ISU promised them something down the line, because this is a ****ing insult to every non-Russian skater continuing to compete.

If Russia comes back before the war ends, and they return to inflated scores for ugly (mostly eteri) skating, then I won't be the only one done with this sport.

The only part of the ISU’s reasoning that is logical is they don’t want ordinal flipping such that when you remove one athlete’s results and reallocate points, then a previous non-doping medalist team gets knocked off the podium. But the obvious fix to that is to DQ the entire doping team from the final results.

I've always given higher odds to the Russia bronze scenario because of the "no flip-flopping" principle that has been a longstanding ISU obsession.

I was surprised when the ISU chose to score the team event with ordinals / placements v. total points. They should have foreseen an issue like this potentially happening.

This is a mess all-around, but I'm happy there's resolution. For me, the outcomes is within the bounds of acceptable though certainly open to disagreement.

Has the IOC issued a statement inviting the Russian athletes to come to Paris also?
The ISU statement: https://www.isu.org/isu-news/news/1...vent-final-ranking-confirmed?templateParam=15

Following the CAS decision of July 25 (read CAS decision here) to dismiss the appeal of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the ROC Figure Skaters and the Figure Skating Federation of Russia (FSFR), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will award the medals during a special ceremony which will be held at the Champions Park in Paris on August 7, 2024 for the gold and silver medallists. Further to today’s decision, the ISU is in contact with the IOC to determine the next steps for the third place.

So much I want to say to the ISU but if I post it here I'll be permabanned and I don't want that to happen. Of course this decision was announced on Aug 2nd. August 2nd is forever a cursed date for me.
I'm disgusted with the ISU. I'm so done with this corrupt organization. I still 100% believe that had this been a smaller federation like Belgium or Spain or even Canada, they would've been DQ'd immediately following the Valieva ruling.
And I'm disappointed with Skate Canada's statement. Is that the best they can do? This is not the time to be nice and not the time for PR. It's okay to not accept the ruling. You think Russia would've said "we respect the decision"? They would have said "eff them, we're number 1".

I am extremely disappointed in this decision.

Of course the ISU will let Russia come back to competition, where they will continue to find new ways to cheat and cry vicitim when they're eventually caught again. I don't think skating can ever be fair (or good) with them involved—for me at least. Today really feels like a part of skating has died.

I'm waiting to calm down before I send a message to the ISU through their contact us form. I know it won't do any good but I feel a need to say something just because protecting athletes from abuse and anti-doping really doesn't seem to be something they care about.

I think Russia will see this as a win, but over time, looking at those bronze medals might end up feeling like an insult, a reminder they did not win gold out of their own arrogance, administrative mishaps and DOPING. Not quite a silver lining, but maybe a pewter lining.

From the beginning, it struck me as odd that US, Japan and Canada didn't 'link arms' to fight for no Russia on the podium as a unified group. In theory, they were fighting for the same principle, 'doping bad.' It doesn't speak well of the political environment behind the scenes in our sport. Given that Russia used her in both phases of the Women's discipline, no Russia on the podium should have been a no brainer.

Nah, they'll be fine with their worldview right now - the biased, hypocritical west foiled them or whatever.

They don't need to "link arms" to punt Russia off the podium, but initially I was indeed questioning why Japan wasn't applying pressure on all these orgs to hurry up.

It's strange they wouldn't at least make the rules concrete now. By strange I mean "expected because it's the ISU", of course.
For me, the outcomes is within the bounds of acceptable though certainly open to disagreement.
Yes, and that's because you can literally make anything up with these rules.

So can someone just point out how they were doing the math wrong again. It’s so obnoxious, I’ve been saying that ISU was corrupt for a while, it’s time to form a new organization and flee the ISU. Once you go corrupt, time to put an end to it.

For real countries should start to form together USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, Italy, Finland, UK, etc and form a new organization, sure they will be countries not included at the beginning, but it’s time to stray from the corrupt.

Skating doesn’t need the ISU. ISU needs skating.

The ISU didn't change the points given to the women after Valieva was disqualified. They removed Valieva's points, and left everyone else the same.

That’s right they did not move the skaters up to receive the higher point totals. Total corruption. They saw a ridiculous way to make it work for them, and they thought everyone was not going to notice it. ISU should be defunded in all possible ways.

The organization no longer works for the skaters and the skating community. The International Skating Union has become the international skating corruption.

I'm so disgusted that the Russian Olympic Committee was able to mock the world and get the Bronze medal. Love the ISU saying that they will consult with the IOC on how to award that medal - as if the IOC would agree to have the Russian skaters come to Paris with the US and Japanese teams. I agree with Christine Brennan.

"CAS ruling confirms Russia gets the bronze medal over Canada in the Kamila Valieva saga. Of course the skating team wasn’t even called Russia at the 2022 Olympics and can’t be here in Paris so that’s fitting and perhaps they’ll just get their medals in the mail sometime."

I cannot believe CAS made this decision.
Really? I'm disgusted but not particularly surprised. This is the same organization that let Valieva compete in the Women's event at the Olympics instead of disqualifying her immediately as would have happen to any athlete from any other federation.

You've been here long enough to know that won't happen.

Literally all of Canada right now:
