Sure, but even headliners have to cancel once in a while. What if he were injured?I imagine he’s the headliner, so it wouldn’t be easy to pull that off. I’m sure he would have been there if possible.
I love Shoma, but he will never have the opportunity to get an Olympic medal ever again. He will be skating in ice shows for a long time to come. One missed performance -- especially under these special circumstances -- shouldn't have been that big of a deal. There are plenty of decent elite skaters in the Lambiel camp (right there in Switzerland) that could have taken over.
I believe this was Shoma's decision which, of course, was his right to make.
