Much prefer Miyahara in classical, lyrical programs. This music doesn't do much for me and I hope the choreography improves. However, I respect that she's trying something different.. she should be receiving higher PCS than she ever gets, and maybe she thinks she has to experiment with other styles to achieve that.

Her strictly classical programs (Mozart, Madame Butterfly, La Bohème, Liszt) aren’t my favorite (lovely as they are). Always preferred the fiery/dramatic programs from Satoko (Firedance, Poeta, Tango, Planets, Geisha), so I’m loving this program
, but she always has a more lyrical program every season, and this year it’s gonna be the LP!

Music seems very generic to me, I only liked the first piece. I was kinda distracted by the poorly edited cuts.

For me it's like watching P/C doing a bollywood dance for the free dance when everybody knows they excel in their own, fluid style. I have no doubts she will own this programme by September and sell it much better though. She seems to be enjoying it.
Personally I'm still not sold on Richaud being the amazing choreographer that Aljona among others made him out to be. Yes it's different but is it necessarily good? I still need more work from him to be convinced.
Overall I think it's great Satoko is trying out something new, it makes it all more interesting. Plus she will be back to her lyrical self for the free.

Totally agree her.
Personally my main problem with him is, that a lot of his programs are not necessarily 'bad' but just don't suit the skater at all.

I'd welcome anything different from P/C at this point. Just because a style works for a dance team does not mean they should limit themselves to it.

I think there are two ways of seeing it: limiting themselves, or on the contrary going deeper and excelling even more in it. Different point of view.
Yeah, for example the best flamenco dancers are brilliant in their craft because they specialize in flamenco and have a focus.
This is 100% where my head is at. Her small jumps drag down her PCS unfairly. I have her in mid to high 9s on every component except maybe SS which would be low to mid 9. I think she would get highest PCS overall in current ladies crop...or close to it.
Her lyrical programs are tough to match but not getting her the scores she needs. To me, even the most subtle of movements speak volumes to me and with the wisdom of a thousand generations. There's a moment in last year's short for example where the raises the base of the palm of her hand to her forehead. Simple, but I internalize it like reading a full chapter in a book. Most other top skaters can try that simple move yet not come close to the level of wisdom and majesty in how she uses her full body. Her entire programs are like this and as I said so unfairly marked.
She has admitted in the past that she needs more raw emotion to increase her marks. This short is indeed a vehicle for her to do that. I truly hope in the end that she doesn't sacrifice the magic that has characterized her skating to date.

I like Satoko's new SP. I think the program looks really good, considering how new it is. It's a testament to her experience and artistic talent that she can already bring quite a lot of expression to it. The program shows a different and, dare I say, sexier? side of Satoko. I like it.
Rika's new SP looks interesting and with good varied choreography, although the music itself is a little bit more monotone than Satoko's, and the details and interpretation need more work, but of course that is only to be expected at such an early stage. (Here we see the difference that several years' experience makes in terms of performance ability. Satoko is able to immediately bring much more interpretation to her new piece than Rika, IMO anyhow, others may disagree.)

Good. They need something fun. And this season is a prime opportunity for that. Might be lucky if it is the only Saturday Night Fever, as this is the first musical that came to mind when I was wondering who might try to spin off the success from Fear & Gibson's disco program last year; but Kaitlin & Jean-Luc seem like a good fit for it.

There are at least a dozen Flamenco palos, and all of them are different, with a wide range of rhythms: Bulerias, Solea, Fandangos, Siguiriyas, Colombianas, Tangos, Guajiras, and Sevillanas are some of the more common ones. The music varies widely from fast and furious to slow and plaintive, and dancers have their own styles and preferences for each of the palos.
Plus they don't always specialize in Flamenco: many do Spanish classical dance, and in many places in Spain, and especially in Madrid, Flamenco music and dance have, like they traditionally have done, absorbed the styles that were around them, including ballet, hip-hop, and contemporary dance. The cajon was a doctored up Peruvian drum that one of Paco de Lucia's musicians found when they toured Peru in the '70's, so this isn't just a 21st century phenomenon. Rocio Molina and Belen Maya (whose parents are Flamenco royalty) are performing all kinds of wild Flamenco-based shows.

No. Ash said they are using Experience by Ludovico Einaudi plus selections from the Moonlight soundtrack for their fp. Sounds like a blast of a great experience! That soundtrack is superb, mixing piano melodies, violin concertos with vocals, sound effects, and studio technology to create a haunting and effective audio accompaniment to a wonderful film:

I think Piper and Paul started it actually.
Their RD and FD had a lot of people talking that season and I think it began getting them noticed on a real level.

Hmmm, I like the music. I'm not sure about the body suit costume with this music. It kind of sounds like a mix between alternative jazz and Bjork vocals.
Hmmm. Again, I like the music, and again interesting choice of a body suit. I guess it's kind of freeing for different kinds of movements. Still, I guess I was thinking of a more colorful, unique outfit. It is difficult to do something unique and creative with a costume when a lot of jumping and angular movements have to take place. Still, can someone think outside-the-box with costuming, rather than everyone going with black-themed bodysuits? I was thinking of something else for the choreo as well. This looks more like an exhibition program on the order of Las Vegas, rather than a competitive program that's truly unique.

This is completely true, but the best flamenco dancers are the best in FLAMENCO. I don't think you can automatically say they're best overall DANCERS. And this is my problem with P/C. They're the best in their own style and they're doing it fantastically. Are they really so good in other ice dancing departments? I don't really know. Yes, they did the waltz, Latin or tango, they're changing their FD music (unlike some people, I have no problem there and I find their FD music selections very interesting and versatile). But they somehow fit their style and similar elements into all dances they perform. To me, for example, tango should look dramatically different then let's say Moonlight Sonata, but instead of going for extremely fast and sharp Argentine version, they succeed to incorporate again their flowy, yet dramatical and passionate style. Did I like their tango or waltz? Yes, but it is all the time the same way of movement. And in a way, I feel like they're not challenging themselves at all (not even during their gala programs, which I find extremely disappointing). They choose their music and choreography very smart, but that's it. The same goes for their elements. I know that Gilles/Poirier or Stephanova/Bukin are fantastic in spins for example....always very good quality, but especially always new variations and positions, going perfectly with the music and enhancing the choreography. I have no idea if P/C can really spin well because they're doing the same positions since their junior years. They're doing it great, fast,...but since they're perfecting it for at least 6 years, this is not really surprising. And honestly, it gets boring and unfair to other couples who are bothering to bring something new but are not rewarded.
The way ice dancing is judged now, it seems they're untouchable. In other words, this means their style is considered more important than others (for example S/K's tango was judged worse than P/C's...) so in the world of dancing, you would say a fantastic contemporary dancer would always win a fantastic ballet or a jazz dancer... This to me doesn't support the development of the discipline and this is why we see tons of "P/C program" clones...
That said, it makes me appreciate Satoko's very ambitious SP choice even more. Go, little princess !!!

Well, it depends...I know this opinion will not be popular, but I think S/K would be capable of doing P/C's tango very well. I honestly don't know if P/C would be capable of doing S/K's and I have my doubts there. How do we know who is better if they don't do any exact same dance? Btw. I'm not really S/K's fan, this is just an example.
