2018-2019 Canadian Ladies News and Updates!

I wasn't able to watch Schumacher but the protocol says two UR, which is what people on the play by play seemed to notice. And not far off her season best score.
A decent ranking for her and I think she was the right choice for this event. And I absolutely love her short program music and chroreography, though seemingly not a popular opinion. Good luck in the free. Scores are close and anything can happen.

warmup group 6
start at about 12 mind in.

Looks like regardless of Schumacher’s final finish, she will be high enough to secure six JGP slots for Canada next year, which is probably the best that Skate Canada could have hoped for coming in, given where her PB was coming in compared to other skaters. I assume Schumacher herself will probably use two of them, although I hope Skate Canada learned from this year and also gets her to a Senior B in the fall for TES minimums as well so there isn’t scrambling after nationals.

Can you refresh my cocktail..what are the rules...???

Boy, Schumacher scored higher than some of Alaine's free scores this season...

Yeah I wasn’t expecting her to beat so many skaters in the penultimate group but they were mostly a mess and the tech panel was tough. Great opportunity for more skaters at the JGP and at junior worlds. This was definitely the best Skate Canada could have hoped for.

So will she have earned a 2nd spot for next year's juniors?

That’s why I popped to find out if we get two spots now? BTW I was impressed her skate I think she did that to the best of her ability and as she matures she will get stronger and her artistry should too. But Wow the Russian girls were amazing.

Yes they were.

I'm relieved Alison opted not to continue doing both singles and pairs as she was doing last season.
On the other hand I find she started blooming when she started the pairs as well and started to quickly climb the cdn singles rank.

Wow CBC didn't even show Schumacher's full program from junior worlds, only highlights. And the commentators said that she skates pairs with Zachary Daleman - um not for over a year! Wow very disappointed!!

Are you talking about the show with Carol Lane...They just jump around. The live streaming showed everyone and both her programs were beautiful.

I was talking about the CBC sports TV broadcast from today. I've already watched her programs online via the CBC website.

Per Jackie Wong’s practice reports, Aurora Cotop was landing some 3T/3T on practice yesterday. It is also listed in her planned elements for the sp. Happy to see she appears healthy enough again to have this back in the program :) It’s going to be a fight to qualify for the free, but hopefully she can have a good sp either way.

Realistically if she skates a clean SP with a 3T-3T she will make the free skate.

Great, happy looking skaters. All the very best to them. I am going to wish Alaine a great competition as I am slightly superstitious about that.

Any news on Canadian ladies practices so far???
Jackie Wong posted his recaps on his site/Twitter.

Gabby was popping a lot of stuff, which isn’t perhaps unexpected, since her challenge is entirely mental. Even moreso than with the average skater, it will be all about how she’s feeling the moment of.

Aurora, as discussed, is doing the 3T-3T with reasonable success.

Per Jackie's practice reports, Gabby and Alaine missing a lot. Like, a lot. Like, every practice.
Alaine is UR and falling a lot. Oi.

Doesn't seem like Cotop is doing as much jump wise in practice but seems to hit the 3/3 often enough to feel optimistic. Frequent mistakes on the 2A with a step out. Hitting 3L and 3F fairly well in practice but not many attempts noted

No idea how practices will relate to the actual skate, but if practices are any indication, qualifying ANYONE for the free might be a grind. Let's hope they are ready when it's show time.
