2018-2019 Canadian Ladies News and Updates!

I think money for elite training has been a problem for Larkyn. She got some cash in her Olympic season and that allowed some training with Krall to get the jumps going.

The one thing I'm noticing is that in general her performances are getting better. I think scaling back her programs is building confidence which she badly needs to compete. I felt at 4CC LP especially there was no hesitation in her skating, like she was not fearing a jumping pass. If she can get a stronger mental foundation then perhaps she can build to more tech content next year.

I'm hoping that SC is sending her out to these smaller events to not only get TES mins but to keep her competing, which my guess is something she needs.

One thing I really enjoy about Larkyn is that she is the opposite of cookie cutter. Everything about her from her hair to her presence on the ice says "unique, different". If she can increase her technical difficulty, she is definitely a skater that could stand out and be remembered.

Yes, I know - I don't see how that is different from what I posted.

He didn’t “quit to take a similar position at Sungod.” He quit, and then he took a similar position back at his old club. He was going to leave Coquitlam regardless of whether or not there was a position at Sungod.

Thanks, I didn't see the distinction the first time around.

I believe it was discussed earlier in the thread; Larkyn Austman does not have the technical minimums for Worlds (at best, she would have been 2nd alternate based on Nationals/4CC results).

Didn't she go to Worlds last season? She must have had them for last season then...

She did last year, but they expired. She came 0.01 short of the SP minimum at Four Continents, which was the only international competition she attended this season because she was injured in the fall.

What happened to the lady who took Alaine's spot to the Olympics last season? Why isn't she even an alternate this season?

Larkyn didn’t “take Alaine’s spot to the Olympics.” Alaine never had a spot. Larkyn beat her fair and square at Nationals and earned the spot. That said,

Thanks. That's a shame.

It really isn’t a shame. Larkyn is really only landing up to 3lo this year and even that has not been terrible consistent. She has lost any choreography in her programs and enters every jump with two very, very basic looking cross overs before the jump.

Shame in the sense that she did place 4th at Nationals ahead of Gabby. To not even be named as an alternate due to 0.01 is such a shame. It probably came down to individual GOE for a single element in that short program.

She is being sent to Cup of Tyrol this weekend to try to get the minimums. We had been speculating as to whether that was to get her on the Worlds alternate list but it appears that it’s more of a “strike while the iron is hot” situation and at least this way she can hopefully have them for next season.

Not sure if i read it correctly, but did not Larkyn was below the minimum criteria in one of her programmes, by something like 1 point?

What!? She’s being sent to another international? Wasn’t she just sent to one 2-3 weeks ago in attempt to get the ISU tech minimums? Why is SC spending money on this?

Presumably to get this over with for next season. Skate Canada’s cup doesn’t exactly runneth over at the moment, so it makes sense to keep working with the ladies they do have.

No, she was assigned to 4CCs based on the Nationals results, since Aurora didn't have the senior minimums for it, not just for Worlds minimums. That's Larkyn's only international this season so far (she pulled out of fall events with an ankle issue).

It's very logical to send Larkyn somewhere for her minimum scores. Major internationals are not the easiest place to get them by far. And for an athlete on the bubble, early fall Challengers--before programs are polished--are not the best time to earn them either. Anyway, best of luck to her as Canada could certainly use a few more ladies with the minimum scores.
