2017 IAAF World Championships (Real) London

OK so Gatlin had a mix of boos and cheers when announced for his medal and - thank goodness - no booing during the anthem. Still much discussion on the Beeb about that 100m and Michael Johnson does have some interesting comments about why Gatlin got cheered in 2012 and booed last night - even though I believe he thinks Gatlin should have been banned from ever competing again in 2006. Oh well.

Gatlin got cheered in 2012 because the Olympics draws people to watch athletics who don't have a clue about it. Same as skating.

Stefanidi wins the womens pole vault. She rattled the bar with her winning jump but it stayed.

Thiam wins the Heptathlon as expected and KJT finishes 5th - the high jump yesterday costing her a medal!! She needs to work on consistency over 7 events if she wants to challenge the ladies coming through at the moment.

What a well timed dip from Bowie on the line there to snatch that gold from Ta-Lou - who I thought had it but she needed to dip and she'd have had it!! But what happened to Thompson - she had no acceleration!!

Day of upsets

Tomas Walsh (NZL) takes the gold! overwhelming favourite Ryan Crouser had a nightmare final with mediocre showing, he ended sixth. Last round was intense with Joe Kovacs throwing a +22 metres but it was a foul, then Walsh threw a 22.03 metres and sealed the gold just in case! Bronze for Croatia

Tori Bowie taking the 100m Gold with style, just diving away in the finish lane, she started slowly from the blocks but at her pure style closed the last 30 metres and took away the title from Marie Jose Ta Lou who was second and the bronze went to Dafne Schippers. Elaine Thompson placed 5th

Ekaterini Stefanidi (GRE) cleared 4.91 to win the title, Sandi Morris Silver medal and the bronze was shared between Yarisley Silva of Cuba and Robeylis Peinado from Venezuela!! she took the bronze for the first ever medal for them in the event

Heptatlon went to Thiam, silver for Claudia Shafer (GER) and bronze for Annouk Vetter (NED)

Balázs Baji, is the finalist of 110m hurdles. Last time a Hungarian sprinter was in a final in 1983!!!
Th experts used to say we aren't genetically good for the sprints. So Baji's results are really great and very unusual!

What is it about American shot putters being such bad sports? The BBC had Ryan Crouser on about his throw that was called a foul and he looking for another camera angle to show his foot didn't touch the edge of the circle.

I'm watching the championships on Eurosport . There is an advertising ( Turkish Airline) with Morgan Freeman.. I'm crazy about his speaking and voice..
I just wanted to tell you..:shuffle::D

I really wish the Beeb would stop building up our athletes - they put the kybosh on them instead . If I were Laura Muir I would demand they stop right now :D

No idea - I think Crouser thought he had this world title in the bag. I do miss Resse Hoffa, though. He was always a class act.

YAY! Allyson qualifies for the 400m final. :cheer: Phyllis Francis is coming up in the 3rd semifinal. I have a very good feeling about her.

Rant: Is it really that hard for NBC to report the field events in the metric units that are officially used? Not to mention the markers are clearly labeled on the sand/throw pit.

Men's 110m hurdles final is coming up. I really want Aries Merritt to medal here. It's insane how he's recovered from his kidneys failing.

Great battle in the women's triple jump with Rojas taking Venezuela's first world title by 2cm from Queen Caterine!
