And that is exactly why it should not be used in this case, or really in any case when sport is involved. The fact that it is used doesn’t make it any more correct or any less insulting.

Shae did one of her CSOI programs and honestly it was her worst. Now maybe Kaetlyn wanted a fun program but I didnt think it brought out her best.

Yes, yes yes! Every time I see her Icona Pop ex number I think this. Shae-Lynn creates so many unique and creative movements that would make for an amazing SP. Just no sex kitten stuff please!!!

ETA: Here's an example of the type of competitive SP choreography from Shae-Lynn I think would fantastic for Kaetlyn: Alicia Pineault - "Back to Black"

On the subject of "gifted", funny, I don't recall anyone saying Kaetlyn's competitors were gifted when she fell multiple times in a program...

I love that Ex. My Dad even likes it and he hates pop music. Fun show programs are better imo.

I also don't recall Kaetlyn being positioned for a win at Olympics or Worlds. Even after her Olympic bronze, I don't think anyone saw her as the favorite over Zagotiva and Med (had she shown up) for the World Champion title.

I think this conversation has become too much ado about nothing. I feel much as I did when someone initiated a :revenge:about the specific requirements for a risotto to actually be risotto.

In any case, the word gifted will continue to be used in FS - like it or not. In fact I recall a Canadian commentator saying that Kolyada gave Chan a gift in one of the Olympic events (quite sure it was the team event).
 
I don't agree with the word "gift" at all in these circumstances. Alina is a most remarkable skater who can apply the strategy of totally back loading her program for the bonus points and still be extremely consistent. Perhaps due to fatigue, long season, not feeling it, whatever, once she fell on the first jump she had no time to recover and it fell apart. I think it demonstrates that sometimes risk doesn't equal reward.

Why mess with something that is not broken???? Shae-Lynn Bourne and Gabrielle Daleman might be a terrific combo!
 
MR. FAN and Shutterbug, I go back to Moncton to a happy place and have watched that one again and again. It has become one of my go-to's for sure. I would LOVE to she her do another Bollywood or something to monsoon wedding.

And, just for old time sake, here's a 16 year old Kaetlyn, who landed in 1st place at nationals after the sp in her senior debut.

And why not put your most difficult jump in an exhibition, as she did last year, as practice makes perfect and it looked as perfect as it could get at Worlds. This jump more than any other, defined her OG and World medals. She rec'd more GOE for her Loop than both her single flip and her lutz at worlds.

I just rewatched this. Her expression has matured so much. The confidence and beauty of her movement is just exquisite. Watching her next to Medvedeva and Zagitova...honestly for me there is no comparison. She is so much more refined and mature than they are, IMHO. I really hope she is able to ride the confidence of this season into next season and that the pressure doesn’t get to her because I feel like she has so much more to give.

aml78, I agree but perhaps I am just an uber who does not know any better, but in this skate with all three, to me there is a difference, esp., the skating skills, spins and oh that spiral is unmatched.

Vintage Kaetlyn. We all knew she was something special and could do great things right from the start. I remember watching her and thinking "Who is this girl? We need to watch out for her!"

I’m not so sure. I think she knows it’s late in her career to try to start training these. With her history of injuries, I think she’d rather not take the risk of having to endure another one. Not sure she’d have it in her to rebound again. She’s been reluctant to even attempt to push off jumps into the back half of the program. I think she’s content doing her thing. If she stays on top in Canada for long enough to make the next Olympics I could see her just being focused on the team.

That being said she has the technique and hang time to potentially squeeze out one more rotation. I just don’t see it being her strategy. And she hates Axel jumps.

You could be right because these jumps may not be consistent for the younger skaters once they grow. Osmond's only challenge (within Canada) could come from a healthy Daleman. Rumour has it that Daleman has a 4T which is one of the reasons I think she struggled with her 3T, 3T at some competitions this season. Her timing is off. With that being said, I am curious to see how Sarah Tamura will develop over the next 4 years. Tamura will need a coaching change to be successful.
