He had a few promising partnerships end with injuries then a few that didn't gel. Goes to show that you can never tell what will happen if you just keep going. And also it helps to be a tall dude who can land jumps.

He had 6 different partners in Russia and never managed to make the Russian team at nationals. There were various reasons none of his partnerships worked out, but it looked like his career was over. Then he ended up in Germany and Hase (who also had different partners--Blomeret's girlfriend demanded he quit skating with her) happened to be partnerless and there you have it. Right place and right timing for both of them. He persevered and look where he is now.

The Kovalevs qualified, wow. What happened to the 2nd Japanese team? I have always thought they were pretty good and looking to make their mark. I hope the Australians can get back to form, always liked them. Excited to watch soon. Proud of our US pairs, both above 70 points. Lia and Trennt have looked really good, like I said, hunker down, don't let the hype get to you! I can't believe they are in 3rd place. But I know they have worked hard and deserve it!
