That is great news!

Ziegler/Kiefer gave it a great try, improving their SB by over 3 points to go over 61, but it wasn't enough to catch A/W.

I just finished watching now and did not check results before..

OMG I KNEW Katia and Harley would.. WOW......

They werent showed on our broadcast but I will wait for youtube.. SO THEY ARE IN THE OLYS !!!!! OMG!!!

PS. If Kaliani holds that placement do the points help Australia's case into the team event?

No, they're not (yet). The 16 places handed out here include the multi-spots. So, for example, if China gets three spots, that's three of those places gone (16-3 = 13). Realistically, I think Katia and Harley would have to finish 10th or higher to qualify here, barring totally unforeseen circumstances.

Australia's Brendan Kerry skated not only a season's best, but a career best short program. Performing flawlessly to 'Singing In The Rain', Kerry has comfortably qualified for the free skating.

Australia is really bringing it to these championships. All of our skaters have produced their absolute best.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: I really want them to qualify into the team event. BTW when is the cutoff for that? Next season's GP Final? :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

2017 World Championships
Day 4 - Men's Free Skate

Today in the men’s free skating final, Australia’s Brendan Kerry brought a very high level of commitment to both the technical element and program component aspect of his performance.

Carrying a small injury leading into this event, Kerry focussed less on multiple quadruple jumps and instead, sold the artistry of his Pirates of the Caribbean routine to the rafters. Also, much to the delight of the audience, they loved that he started his skate wearing a cheeky grin.

Kerry has trained harder than ever leading into the event and with that, earned personal and career best scores for his short program, free skate, and overall.

The great news from here is that the twenty - two year old has qualified Australia a spot at next year’s Olympic Winter Games.

Moving forward, this event has been one of the best ever for figure skating in this country.

There was a nice show at Macquarie ice arena on Thursday.
Looks like this Sydney Channel 7 news piece on Brendan Kerry was filmed in conjunction with the show: https://twitter.com/7NewsSydney/status/855345619090538496
Kerry also uploaded this same news video on YT (includes a snippet of him skating at Macquarie as a youngster): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhM5OZODoJs

Kerry will be at Macquarie ice rink as a presenter for Nikolai Morozov's singles and dance camp on May 1-2, 2017.

Kailani Craine performed at the 4/28/17 Melbourne show - 2 photos from her Instagram:

The reporter needs to learn the meaning of 'literally'.

Actually, that's Canterbury Ice Rink in the clip at the start of the story, not Macquarie.

He called him Brendan Kelly.

*facepalm*

I notice Brendan is starting to acquire that hybrid accent that Aussies can pick up when they live overseas. ;)

Seven is undoubtedly reporting on this stuff because they're (unfortunately) the broadcaster of the Olympics here. I am not looking forward to finding the skating behind the paywall (as I'm sure will happen when the snow sports start.)

I wish I could have seen that show on Friday! Did anyone get to go?

The Australian broadcaster - in perhaps the country with greatest love of Olympic sports - puts the Olympics behind a paywall? That's nuts. Plan a vacation to Canada, if you're not going to Korea (I believe the exchange rate is favourable right now) the CBC will have live streaming of all the events for free on its website - very good quality. Sometimes we just don't realize how spoiled we are in this country.

Seven's setup is a little complicated. They have three free-to-air channels, on which they broadcast the Olympics. For Rio, they had those three channels going, but they mostly covered the "big sports" with very little foray into the smaller sports (so the first week was swimming 24x7 etc). If you wanted to watch sports that weren't on those channels, you had to shell out for "premium access" on their site or their app. Considering they spent the Olympics bragging about their "live and free" coverage and that they also refused to share with Foxtel (our main subscription TV service, who were all ready to go to launch their eight Olympic channels) it got quite a bit of backlash.

I don't know if they'll run the same setup for Korea, but if they have to choose between skating and the snow sports the skating will always lose.
