First time popping in this thread!

Ive been wondering... does Australia have a shot of getting the final spot into the team Event at Olys next year? Or is the momentum for Korea? Or Italy.

I was just wondering with Kerry, Craine, Ekat & Harley and a dance team (Friend & Badaoui?) will they have high enough scores soon to get a spot into the team event???

Although if Ekat & Harley had to do the SP and free in team and then again the SP and Free immediately after for pairs that would be way taxing.

(added later) Does Ekat have citizenship?

Yes, they have a chance at qualifying a Team Event spot but nothing's for certain right now.

Australia could certainly get enough point to qualify based on Brendan, Kailani, Katya and Harley, and a dance team but it will also depend on how the other close contention countries do.

Katya doesn't have citizenship yet but they've been working on it and this win will only aid them

Australia picking up an extra ~200 points towards the Team Event qualification thanks to Katia/Harley is very helpful, but still puts the country behind Israel in the overall standings. Brendan will have to finish 14th or better, Kailani 17th or better in Helsinki for Australia to add any additional qualification points for the 2016-17 season.

Ekaterina will have to learn fluent English in a hurry. She will still have to pass a tough test to clear the path to citizenship.

Given the news articles I've read about them, she's definitely learning. More quotes from her as articles get written rather than just talking to Harley the whole time (which happened early on especially when they had no translator.)

Article - Australians win historic ISU figure skating gold - with pairs podium photo: http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1048242/australians-win-historic-isu-figure-skating-gold
History was made on the ice at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Taipei as Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya and Harley Windsor won gold.

The Australian’s victory in the pairs free skating event gave their nation a first podium topping performance at an ISU Championship.
Re-posting from the Junior Worlds forum in Kiss & Cry:
At the first Junior Worlds in 1976 the Australian pair of Elizabeth Cain & Peter Cain (siblings) won a bronze medal. That has been the only Australian medal of any colour at World Juniors until today, as far as I can see.
(Peter Cain is the father/coach of Ashley Cain & her partner, Timothy LeDuc.)

I think we have a very good chance.

Although if Ekat & Harley had to do the SP and free in team and then again the SP and Free immediately after for pairs that would be way taxing.

Remember, only the top five teams go through to the FS in the team event. Regardless, it would be the same for all of our skaters at the Olympics: Brendan, Brooklee/Kailani and any dance team would all be in the same boat.

(added later) Does Ekat have citizenship?

Not yet, but soon.

With his current form, I feel like the bolded is very, very possible.

Do athletes getting citizenship via the Outstanding Talent Visa have to do that test? I don't remember.

For sure she must be learning, but she said nothing at the press conference and just a few small words in the post-event interview today.

Yes. Everyone who emigrates to Australia has to speak the English language and pass a test. This OTV is not an automatic guarantee for obtaining citizenship.

She actually doesn't say much anyway. I was introduced to her at Nationals last year and during the week watched her walk around the rink. She just seemed to be quite happy in her own little world. But I do love her attitude when she skates. You can see she loves it.

Delighted by the outcome, congrats to Katia and Harley!:cheer2:

And as for Australian citizenship tests, a subject on which I know less than nothing, may I ask if there is an exemption from some requirements or a different test for minors? It seems to me the language requirement may be different (easier) for minors (I'm not even sure about that in the US, but I *think* it's an exemption.....). Again, in the US, and forgive me I do not know in Australia, 16 years old is a minor.

Just a thought as I would love to see them at the Olys..... I'm sure Australia's best legal minds will be working on the subject.;)

I just adore their brother-sister rapport so soon after parterning. She does the side hug/side pat to him first after they finish the program and he reciprocates with a reassuring pat-pat.

I hope they get some coverage in the mainstream media for this as well.
I happened to watch a couple of tonight's commercial TV news reports and nothing yet, though maybe ABC or SBS will do something.

That would be amazing (fingers crossed!). Even with just three good scores it's possible, as per Britain at the team event last Olympics where they didn't qualify anyone in men's for the individual event, but were able to bring someone for the team only.

NOW, thats a Mom.. or mum!!!!

Shes so dang proud of them. Thats so great!!!!!!!!

PS and Im a sucker for this accent.. even the way she says Harley's name.....Hulley....lol..Definitely not a hard AR like I would say.
I really enjoyed listening to her. So natural and down to earth. Even swore which was really funny. It is interesting in that you can tell she is Aboriginal Australian just by the way she talks. She will be great to be interviewed if Katya and Harley get to compete at the Olympics next year.

That was my favourite part, too :D
