Keeping Track of Criminal Cases & SafeSport Suspensions in Skating

No more former Soviet men. These talented US women get burned constantly. Avonley and Bella need to team up. If anyone could make non-gendered Ice Dance become popular it would be them.

Edited:This was about bringing men over from former Soviet countries, having them live with the women, expenses paid and then they leave. Not necessarily about the misconduct issue so wasn’t really appropriate for this thread. But now that we have this whole arranged marriage component :yikes:

Based on early season scores, it’s

1. (Chock/Bates)
2. Car/Pom
3. Zingas/Kolesnik
4. Bratti/Somerville

B/S are right in the thick of things and he probably wouldn’t be fighting for a world/Olympic spot with a new partner (not for these next two seasons anyway).
It's highly unlikely they would split before the Olympics. Maybe after it if they don't get the results they want.

OMG TSL just reported Desyatov Flores got married in August 2022??

Oh damn. There was some rumor dropped this summer in the US Ice Dance thread or the Dance Hall about there being four weddings this summer - Pate/Bye, Neset/Markelov, Chock/Bates everyone knew about but no word ever came out about who the 4th couple was. I need to search because I am positive that I pressed the poster about who the 4th couple was - something in my mind is niggling that the implication was it was indeed, Flores/Desyatov.

N/M and C/B got married this summer though, and P/B wasn’t much before that. This would have happened 2+ years ago.

Found it - https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/us-ice-dance-2024-25-news-updates.111843/post-6625382

ETA - it was in discussion about who was competing at LPIDI and the poster in question said there was another team on the ISP who had citizenship marriage that had happened that we weren't aware of beyond Neset/Markelov (Pate/Bye and Chock/Bates clearly don't fit that criteria). I went through the teams on the ISP after that post and there were very few options.

“Citizenship marriage” i dont think thats a thing these days, Govt sopped it. We have married friends and he has his green card and he cant be a citizen through marriage alone.

I'm not sure the folks running the show at WASA Ice Dance may be aware of that, based on these very young marriages happening.

If two teenage American girls married two imported Russian partners and they're all training with the same coach ... I think it's fair to wonder exactly what's going on at the coaching center. Like the meme says, if I had a nickel for every time this happened, I'd have two nickels, but it's weird it happened twice.

(Still not right for Dave to mention N/M in the context of Desyatov's misconduct suspension, though.)

The spouse of a U.S. citizen who resides in the United States may be eligible for naturalization on the basis of his or her marriage. The spouse must have continuously resided in the United States after becoming a lawful permanent resident (LPR) for at least 3 years immediately preceding the date of filing the naturalization application and must have lived in marital union with his or her citizen spouse for at least those 3 years.

The spouse must establish that he or she meets the following criteria in order to qualify...
  • Living in marital union with the citizen spouse for at least 3 years preceding the time of filing the naturalization application (the citizen spouse must have been a U.S. citizen for those 3 years).;;;
  • Demonstrate good moral character for at least 3 years prior to filing the application until the time of naturalization.

It's certainly too early for Destyatov to file an application for naturalization, and demonstrating good moral character for at least 3 years prior to filing the application might be impossible for him right now.

Oh my gosh.

Now I'm feeling really thankful that Veselukhin got out of there, and I only hope there's nothing similarly weird going on at his new rink.
Well, thankfully, Aboian is WAY too young for marriage - she was born in NH and they train in CT - both states where you have to be 18 to get married unless you get special permission from a probate court.

I mean, there’s a clear pattern happening at this coaching center. Not pointing stuff like that out isn’t helping the sport any.
Yeah I mean, I wanted to give n/m the benefit of the doubt they are really in love and just couldn't wait to get married, the third marriage has me shook and ummm I'm very uncomfy

...also i forgot n/m were a wasa team at the time hahaha

I went to the site, and Grace Yi and Danila Savelev married December of last year, five months after teaming up. Something is very suspicious in that camp.
Sooooo, @Wyliefan - what if it's three teams??? I kind of think it's fair game, at this point, for DL to mention NesMark - and to throw Yi/Savelev in there for good measure. This is NOT normal.

And there's no way that the USFS can't have been aware of what was happening - WASA's practically around the corner from their offices. Who knew what when and looked the other way?

There have also been rumors that Neset/Markelov got married a couple years back while she was underage with her parents permission. While they do appear to genuinely be in a romantic relationship, the whole situation feels very gross to me. Additionally, I feel like USCIS is not going to be impressed with any of these teams and this may screw over all of their attempts to get citizenship, with it being pretty obviously encouraged if not outright pushed by the coaching team.

Yeah, I have no idea why anyone concerned here, assuming suspicions are accurate, wouldn't have realized that the US government is going to look a bit askance at a series of marriages among one pool of couples in the same geographical area, all engaged in the same deeply niche career in which US citizenship is critical for one specific goal.

@Karen-W If you've been reading my posts for the last several minutes, as all this has been coming out, you'll know that I've realized that this is extremely not normal, and not good.

I think the way Dave brought it up was strange, because it seemed like it was all in the context of Desyatov's criminal investigation, which doesn't appear to have been related to any of the marriages. But with more information, it seems he's on to something, even though he chose to say it in that oblique way.

@B.Cooper It really depends on the context of the situation as to who knows.

As I heard from a friend considering doing a citizenship marriage with her friend, you can get in big trouble even if you're the US citizen partner (if you know the marriage is only for citizenship). So one would imagine the American women caught up in this mess may face legal consequences as well. Hopefully the coaches will.

(Side note: I wonder if the timing of the USFS CEO's resignation/firing has anything to do with this mess - I'm sure she knew this would come out given it was right in USFS's backyard and there was a police investigation)

Sorry - I was posting and didn't see your responses as they were coming out.

I do agree, at this point, I think DL would be better off just being direct - but I also don't know that he knew about the third marriage that's now been discovered.
