Keeping Track of Criminal Cases & SafeSport Suspensions in Skating

Wow. I'd say that probably confirms some of the speculation floating around in other corners of the internet. I'm glad that they've taken swift action. I do feel very badly for Isabella though. God help her during this time.

Since he’s not a citizen would a deportation be forthcoming or do they let the criminal case play out?

Ivan Desyatov

On October 18, 2024, the U.S. Center for SafeSport issued the following Sanction regarding Ivan Desyatov:

Beginning on October 18, 2024, Ivan Desyatov is prohibited from participating, in any capacity, in any event, program, activity, or competition authorized by, organized by, or under the auspices of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), the National Governing Bodies recognized by the USOPC, a Local Affiliated Organization as defined by the Code, or at a facility under the jurisdiction of the same.

Pursuant to U.S. Figure Skating Bylaw Article XXV, Section 2, U.S. Figure Skating hereby adopts the Sanction imposed by the Center temporarily suspending Ivan Desyatov effective October 18, 2024.

Well, Safe Sport has no involvement whatsoever with the immigration status of any non-US citizen residing in the country. Any criminal investigation will play out and, should he be found guilty then that would be a matter for ICE to review his immigration status. I'd guess that if he's found guilty of what the rumored misconduct is then he will certainly be deported. There are a lot of questions I have, but I'm going to refrain from saying anything else because deportation may be the least of Desyatov's worries.

Not to stir the pot further...but how often do you think the coaches, other athletes, rink staff or parents who watch training sessions know about or at least are suspicious of inappropriate activity between the athletes? I realize that in the past, and we don't need to discuss specific coaches, as that topic has been discussed at length in other threads....but if you are a reasonable observer of human behavior, even under training conditions with teams of athletes...one's curiosity is raised. Can rink personnel aid in potential reporting of suspected inappropriate behavior? I am just trying to look for additional ways to provide support to an underage athlete who may find themselves in a difficult situation, without sufficient family support system in place.

Well, it's not just underage athletes who are at risk with some situations. Gracie Gold and Brendan Kerry were both legal adults when he raped her.

Does anyone remember how much they had to pay for Desyatov’s release from Belarus? I remember it was a hefty cost so they got fundraising support to help pay for it.

Is this the same guy who dumped his former partner and did everything he could to avoid her?
No. Isabella was formerly partnered with Dimitry Tsarevski who ghosted her before Nats in 2022 and then he turned up summer 2023 partnered with Katarina Wolfkostin. Ivan is her new partner.

$25k

I wonder if Ian would do it. I mean, he's proven himself willing to split with a partner before, but he's been having some success with Emily. At this point he may not want to start from scratch again. Time will tell, I guess.

Well, I don't see BraSom getting to Worlds again anytime soon, so he may decide it's worth the thought after Nats.

Based on early season scores, it’s

1. (Chock/Bates)
2. Car/Pom
3. Zingas/Kolesnik
4. Bratti/Somerville

B/S are right in the thick of things and he probably wouldn’t be fighting for a world/Olympic spot with a new partner (not for these next two seasons anyway).
