Keeping Track of Criminal Cases & SafeSport Suspensions in Skating

Newer here, not sure how to link this reply so my apologies… but just want to add comment relating to a repost about CT coaches… he’s in a different state now but Nikolai Morozov is listed as a compliant USFS coach with a current USFS membership.

Nit picking, but okay
Don't be a jerk - I was merely pointing out that I had no idea the answer to the question you were asking - and I still fail to understand why you quoted me in the first place since I've never commented one way or the other on the guy you asked about because, as I politely pointed out, I'd never heard of him.

And, just because you thought I was rude in my initial response, I'm going to give you a real example of being rude - still don't care who that guy is - some minor level of success that got him to exactly ONE Jr World Championship representing Canada 20+ years ago is not someone whose name I've committed to my figure skating memory bank. Sorry. Except, I'm not really sorry that I don't have a clue who that guy is. And I'm really not sorry to tell you that I don't care who he is either.

Fighting words, Why the aggression? Also, I don't want to judge, but I need clarification. Yes, he did go to ONE Jr World championship, but he was also a top Canadian coach working with CHILDREN. He also was a choreographer for many shows so if that even puts one adult or child at risk of abuse, yes, I do worry. Am i still a Jerk for wondering when I had a friend's child who worked closely with him.

It’s not not picking. You quoted someone which obviously implied you were talking to them (because that’s the point of that feature) and

Thanks for your input that has absolutely has nothing to do with you. ☮️

Grow the eff up and stop being a jerk about this. Your concerns about the guy are not the issue here (and those concerns are certainly valid), it's how you began interacting and contributing to this thread and getting defensive and calling me rude for politely pointing out that you'd quoted me but that I had no information I could contribute to answer the questions you were posing.

A simple "my bad" would have sufficed, but you chose to provoke me by calling me rude. And you're doing yourself no favors around here by arguing with anyone and everyone who is pointing out that you're the one who started this by randomly quoting me in the first place.

I see you need validation so I will give you kudos for doubling down on name calling me the J-word! Thanks also for agreeing with the concern I had. Also, could you clarify to me what is a polite point out? I said "My Bad" when I responded to a quote - Innocently enough, I did not know I was quoting you. To the casual observer, one might take that as accountability. It's clear today might not be a great day for you, so I hope you clear your head and have a better evening. Wishing you all the best :) ☮️ :cheer2:

Seriously?

Your passive-aggressive attempt to turn this back on me again by 1) pretending that "jerk" is some horrible profanity that must be referred to as "the j-word", 2) projecting onto me the notion that someone is having a bad day, and 3) feigning that you are the polite one for your simple mistake and that you bear no fault in this little dust-up we are having by refusing to acknowledge that this started when you called me "rude" is very pathetic and makes transparent to anyone reading this thread that "jerk" is too kind a word to use to describe you. Maybe the real "j-word" would be better. Hell, it goes perfectly with your user name. Jacka$$ Jackson.

Have a nice day - and don't expect any further engagement because you're just the 3rd FSUer to earn the distinction of being on my ignore list.

Also, the irony of this whole thread (I am making sure not to re-quote anyone) is that it's about athletes who have been harmed, and some how skating fans are making it about themselves and name calling

What praytell is the real J word? Boy oh boy, I hope you feel better soon! ☮️ :cheer2: :summer:

^^^ Excerpt from the end of Louise Radnofsky's WSJ article:
Gold didn’t name Kerry in her book that came out in early 2024. But she did describe in searing terms how a report of her assault had been made to the Center and nothing had happened.
That dramatically elevated the profile of the case, and four and a half months later, the Center was able to finish its process for an investigation report that had been complete for at least two years.
The Center said that SafeSport leaders had begun to take steps in December 2023, unrelated to Gold’s book, to identify and try to conclude cases that had been open for more than two years, and has added staff and updated its processes, including committing to contact people involved in cases more frequently with updates.
The Center found 127 cases that had been open for more than two years. Of those, it says, 68 have since been resolved.
Another 33 are in legal review. In 26 cases, the investigations are ongoing.

The Wall Street Journal has a new article about the Brendan Kerry case and how slowly it moved. I was able to read the whole thing without a subscription; hopefully everyone else will too.
That is one damning article. Everyone should read it - brings tears to my eyes because, wow, we really let these athletes down. I feel like I need to send it to my Senators and Representative and ask them to provide more funding to SafeSport.

Well, I learned even more things I never had before. This is so sad.

I have a question and I want to be sensitive how I ask .. when a major crime like this happens, why not go directly to the police and have them put in jail immediately? I don’t even know if I would think to go to safe sport if a major crime has happened, they are not the law. I’m going right to the police, no? I understand some are afraid for many different reasons, and they are all valid, but I don’t think I would even think about reporting the safe sport, if a major crime? Not go directly to the police and have him arrested?

There are many reasons why so many women don't report SA to the authorities. They should but they don't. You just have to look at the high profile cases to see why women don't.

Tell me you are not a woman or a not male who has experienced sexual assault without telling me that.

No one protects you when you report. NO ONE

No one protects or believes unless it's like the
18 month old I took care of - whose mother's boyfriends spilt her pelvic bones and ripped her bladder and bowel into pieces. Even then mom was questioning if the boyfriend did it.

Just check statistics about the low percentage of sexual assault cases that result in conviction. Then remember how victims of John Coughlin were hazed and bullied. The one claimant was a minor living away from family and pretty dependent on Kerry and her coach.

Gracie knew the problems.

It’s just so sad, I want to stand up and get involved. Reading that last article infuriated me. It’s like what can I do to help… or to make change

I just finished Gracie's book, and I was horrified to read that when she was finally interviewed by a SafeSport investigator, the investigator started off the interview by telling her that he and his wife were huge fans of hers. Even if he was, that's completely unprofessional - and the defendant's representatives would likely have reason to appeal a decision on the grounds that there was bias in the investigation process.

I hope this was a one-off, and that SafeSport investigators generally don't say this sort of thing.

There are many other reasons why victims of sexual assault do not contact the police.

Gracie Gold was clinically depressed and suicidal. I don’t know how soon the symptoms developed, but once they did, contacting the police may well have beyond her.

From page 151 of Gracie Gold's Outofshapeworthlessloser book:
I could have stopped at the police station on my way out of town and filed a police report. But what would I have submitted as evidence? A deflowered virgin's bloodied bed sheet? Because I had been drinking, I didn't believe I would have the credibility in the eyes of the authorities. Then there was the matter of that earlier date plus another time when my rapist and I had made out, all of which had left me wondering if I had misled him somehow. Would those two consensual interactions shade how my assault wsa judged by others? Would they cloud the facts of what happened in that hotel room?
My confidence that my case would stand up in court was zilch. Less than zero, actually
