Russian Figure Skater tests positive for drugs - delays ceremony for team medals

Personally, I'm getting a laugh out of the impact of this cluster on the team event results. If the team event hadn't existed, we may never have known. They would have declared her injured or gotten a quick resolution with a one month suspension that let her keep her euros title and skate in Beijing.

But Plushenko and Rus Fed had their hissy fit after Vancouver because he omitted a jump that ended up being the margin of victory and now here we are.

So is this still considered a gendered insult?

Anyways, I think the team competition idea was in the works for a while, Plushenko silver medal or not. The World Team Trophy began in 2009 and the Japan Open (US vs. Europe vs. Japan version) started in 2006.

I always saw hissy fit as a shortening of hysterical fit. I suppose it could be gendered if you assume only women can be hysterical but I have often applied that to anyone and everyone. If it is considered gendered I vote for expansion of the use to all gender/nongendered people rather than eliminating the term because it's a human thing.

"Hysteria" is derived from the Greek word for womb, so yes, its history is gendered, and rooted in misogyny, even if the label is freely used in a unisex manner today.

Progress! Sort of.

He didn’t do a 3 jump combo all season. Not once! He did two quad triples In Vancouver. Isu math was so messed up at time doing a quad triple didn’t mean anything. It’s the big mystery of 2009-2010 season! Plushenko never ever doing a 3 jump combo Ever. The only theory is he felt doing quad triples against people doing no quads was sufficient. Also maybe The negative goe on the combo would be so bad because he couldn’t do a third jump neatly so it would eliminate the value of the jump anyway? Then there is idea he didn’t want to do 3-2-2 only 4-3-2. I believe his 4-3-2 in Torino was done very poorly.

But anyway if he wanted to win he wouldn’t have done quads at all. 3-5 structure and hire Lori nichol

It was all wrong people doing quad triples needed a double toe but people with 3-2-2 didn’t need a quad

Hissy fit is from hysteria? I thought it might have been some sort of humorous term - as if people are hissing like snakes during the fit.

I love learning new things at FSU.

There needs to be a moderator in the ISU live chats to kick out the trolls.

This x 100… and I’ve got to be honest, 99% of the comments in those chats are word soup. I always turn the chats off within a minute or two of watching because it’s too much. If they can’t have a moderator to ban people making disgusting comments about skater’s weights, they should disable chats and comments on all their videos. Full stop.

There's an option on YouTube to 'Hide Comments' on all their livestreams.
That's the chat. I usually turn off the chat. I came in too late for this stream and only caught the butt end of the performances and glanced at the chat as a result, but tbh I'm glad I did. I now know how these people are speaking about Loena and why.

I do agree with @SkateGuard that the comment section the YT videos should be turned off, if they mean the comments on the videos that are uploaded skater-by-skater after the competition. I am not going to go there on purpose, but I can't imagine Loena's comment section's going to be too pleasant right now. Nor was the women's competition's comment section pleasant after last season's worlds, from what I remember. I don't know how many skaters go and watch on YT after their performance, but I don't think they need to read they only finished on the podium because Russia was banned and how glorious Russia is. IIRC, they did this for the junior competition videos some years back, when the juniors got hate comments (Yunabots on Russian junior girls, from what I recollect).

How can I turn the comments section off?
By clicking where it says to turn the comments off.
Why? It's relevant to the thread, showing the behaviour of the Russian fans on this topic. If you can show me how it's irrelevant, then I won't.
Xenophobic Russian fans didn't dope Valieva.

I do not, as a general rule, tell people that I am going to put them on Ignore, but I will say that I don't come to this site to read hate speech, whether it be coming from posters themselves or what they mindlessly copy and paste from other sites.

From what some people with YouTube channels have said, comments impact the algorithm, ie, the more the merrier, which at least impacts monetization indirectly.

Genuinely curious - would the ISU videos stay up if monetized? Music licenses and all?
