No, the Autumn Classic international was not held this year :(

I wonder if the third host spot for pairs at SCI will go unused. Proft/Nadeau were a no show again at the Georges-Éthier event.
Well, it won't go unused. It's just going to be a question of whether Skate Canada assigns it to a team that is all but guaranteed to finish last (Thibodeau-Mailhot/Villeneuve, Carignan/Pierro, or Alteryd/Farand provided they're allowed to compete internationally) or they invite a team from another country. It's also not as if the host spot needs to go to a team that has competed internationally before - France has assigned Faula/Belle to GPdF and that will be their first international competition.

Sorry I was unclear. By host spot I meant a Canadian team. If they decide not to assign another Canadian pair I hope they will decide soon enough so a team from another country can use the spot.

Julianne Seguin is publishing an e-book about her skating experiences. The English translation of the blurb reads:

"When Olympic skater Julianne Séguin ends her career and faints in the wild, no one seems to care. Yet she was a rising star in the Canadian figure skating community. She had distinguished herself, domestically and internationally, in singles and pairs. With her professional partner Charlie Bilodeau, she won three medals at the Canadian Championships in the senior category and five in international competition.

They also won five medals in the junior category. They finished 9th at the PyeongChang Olympics in February 2018. At the invitation of Marie-Christine Noël, Julianne Séguin talks about her love of figure skating, but also about darker parts of her sport. She talks about untreated injuries, the quest for the perfect body and the evolution of a toxic relationship with her coach, detailing the effects on her health.

Through her investigation and interviews with other skaters, Marie-Christine Noël lifts the veil on an unhealthy climate in the world of high-level skating, where psychological distress is frequent. While, all over the world, languages are loosening around questionable practices in elite sports, Julianne's story provides a better understanding of what high-performance athletes can experience.

How could such a harmful sporting climate continue unquestionably? Will other young athletes pay the price for this culture of performance at all costs?"

I can't imagine it will be, but I'd love if there were an English translation.

The latest on Proft/Nadeau:
I've been hoping someone would skate to "Suite Madam Blue" since lyrics were allowed, so 🤞🤞🤞 we actually see them at some point this season!
Augh, that's so great! I grew up on Styx, Toto & Moody Blues, so this makes my inner child sooooo happy. GREAT song for a pair team.

Now who's skating to Africa and Nights In White Satin?

I really hope we get to see them compete. A herniated disc in her back is pretty serious though…

Obviously Instagram clips in isolation are not the same as putting everything together in competition, but what they have shared so far is intriguing. The potential is there for this to be a really great pairing.

If they do not compete at sectionals, are they done for the season? I would think there are so few pairs that a bye to Challenge would be reasonable, but not sure on the rules (and of course as a new team maybe no wiggle room is available).

The things you learn from FSU! Like the fact it's "Suite Madame Blue" and not "Sweet Madame Blue".

Lovely start for Proft / Nadeau - fingers crossed for them!

That video of Proft & Nadeau is great! They look so good together, and it really flows well for a new team. What a shame if they can’t compete.

I think Brooke and Ben free skate music suited them more then the short.
Unexpected errors for them in the free, but it’s been a while since competing regularly so I am sure/hope they’ll figure it out.

Latest Kemp/Elizarov article from Laurie Nealin (e-mail not required for access}: Local figure skaters punch ticket to Grand Prix Final in Italy
It was an impressive, if unforeseen, accomplishment for the 2022 Canadian novice-pair champions, made all the more remarkable considering both have been dealing with injuries.

“The whole experience has been unexpected and this is even more unexpected,” coach Kevin Dawe said by phone from Gdansk.
An hour after their event, Elizarov had not quite grasped the magnitude of their achievement.

“I’m not super excited right now. Maybe it just hasn’t hit me yet,” said the former singles competitor who had contemplated quitting the sport before deciding to try pair skating last year.

“Going into it we were struggling with injuries and we already had our (qualifying) scores for Junior Worlds, so we were coming here with less stress and weren’t really going for the Final. We just wanted to skate our best, and I guess doing that got us to the final,” added the Vincent Massey grad, explaining he has an abdominal injury while Kemp has right ankle injuries.
We'll miss not having them here at home for Challenge, but this experience will be invaluable for their development. :cheer2:

I didn't. They seemed completely disconnected from their music - very juniorish presentation, IMO.

New PB for Brooke & Ben in the Finlandia SP scoring 61.23, over 3 points ahead of their prior PB of 58.00 from Junior Worlds!
McIntosh & Mimar also had new ISU personal bests of 105.38 (4th in FS) and 166.61 (Total) to win the bronze medal yesterday in their senior international & Challenger Series debut at Finlandia Trophy - congratulations to them & their team! :)

(Disclaimer :D: I have not watched their programs.)

ETA:
Alexander Sheldrick-Male coached them in Espoo.

Thanks! From the end of Nealin's article:
“I’m just ecstatic for them,” added the coach who works as a physician’s assistant by day.
Kemp and Elizarov return to Winnipeg Sunday and will take about a week off the ice to let injuries heal.
In late October, the pair will train in Mississauga, Ont., for a week with pairs specialist Andrew Evans and veteran Russian coach Dmitri Savin as they ramp up their training toward the competition in Italy, beginning Dec. 8.

Mic'd Up: Bruno MARCOTTE with Chloe Panetta/Kieran Thrasher before/during/after their FS in Gdansk last week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEaewhchMjo

Kemp/Elizarov and Panetta/Thrasher have qualified for the JGP Final in the 5th & 6th place positions, respectively.

Laurin and Ethier won $12K 9K USD* plus earned 324 World Standing points for that bronze medal. Hopefully they'll get their Worlds SP minimums -- they were so close at Lake Placid and even closer at Skate America -- because, you never know.

*SMH: I originally posted the GPF number.

Julianne Seguin is publishing an e-book about her skating experiences.

The co-author, Marie-Christine Noël, is the journalist for the Vrai network in Quebec who made the documentary Pression (Pressure) that had Julianne as one of the participants. That was an excellent documentary so I'm sure the book will be equally well done.

ETA: Here's an article in French with photos from the book launch:

It should’ve been a First & Third for Canada but, yeah, I’ll take it. 🇨🇦
K/F got the world champion PCS boost, but the technical score should not have been as close as it was. IMO S-D/D should have eked out the win in the FP, but I would have been okay with silver overall due to the SP

Has there been any talk of Deanna trying for Canadian citizenship? I know the Olympics are ages away, and sh!t happens (especially to 'elderly' people in this sport), but it would be great if she had the option to even potentially compete in 2026.
