The event started on Sunday in Edmonton, and Red Deer, Alberta. Yesterday the US team had to forfeit a game due to positive tests on the team, and today more positives on other teams and the event has now been cancelled.

Members of the Russian and Czech Republic world junior hockey teams were removed from a New Year’s Eve flight from Calgary to Frankfurt, Germany, with fellow passengers saying the Russian squad caused a disturbance by smoking and refusing to wear masks

it’s no excuse for bad behavior but imagine a major sporting event canceled in the midst of the schedule…imagine our Winter Olympics canceled between days 2 & 3 of the figure skating Team Event…or between the short & long programs of any individual discipline.

Remember the recent cancellation/ postponement of Miss World between the preliminaries and the finals, because of the crud spike in December? (Not that the beauties threw punches at each other, LOL…)

Lots of frustrations.

People are frustrated, definitely. No excuse to behave badly, but also it's getting harder to keep your s?$& together. The Russians got booted for not masking up, smoking, and generally being asses. Finnish team got to fly home (same flight).

The coaches participated in awful behaviour. There is no excuse for that. I would have been ? being a passenger and being delayed 3 hours.

International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is gathering further information on this incident from the relevant authorities and will refer the incident to the IIHF Ethics Board to determine if the Russian National Team's actions violated the IIHF Ethics Code, Adam Steiss, communications manager at IIHF, said in a statement to CBC News.
