I'd be interested to know what the sequence of events was here. Because obviously I.A.M. Ontario wasn't public knowledge, but this was all set up in advance, so did Christina & Anthony sound Scott out first whether he might be transitioning to coaching permanently (which admittedly wouldn't have been that hard to predict), or did he (or Marie-France) steal them from Igor?
Sorry for the double post...I was kind of wondering if they approached MF and they set them up with Scott at this new campus with promises of working with them some until Beijing and then they become their priority or something. But I have no idea, just total speculation!

I wonder if this will be a stepping stone type situation? Like a way to get their foot in the door with MF at the main IAM campus. When IAM mentioned their new campus it sounded like it was for younger teams. So, it makes me wonder if after Beijing, when some teams retire, C/P will go to the main campus. Either way, good luck to them! It sounds like a good situation as Scott seems to enjoy coaching and have a lot of energy and time to devote to them. Though it does make me remember the time K/K went to Savchenko after the 2018 Olympics. Hopefully with a super experienced coaching team over the entire IAM school, everything will go smoothly for C/P.
If they're (post-YKW) envisioning the sort of commuter arrangement discussed above, southern Ontario is a much more convenient place to do that than Montreal, at least if they're planning to make Detroit their American base.

I feel like this is an interesting choice and a bit of a risk. However, since they can't go to the Olympics next year anyway, it's good timing to take a risk. They essentially have a long buildup to 2026, and I agree that I'm curious if this is going to be a stepping stone to Montreal IAM. I think Moir could be good for them though. I'm pretty sure they've worked with him before?

Scott has definitely dropped into the rink for some consultant sessions in the past, as he's done in a lot of schools over the past couple of years.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I just didn't feel like digging through SM feeds to see if I was remembering incorrectly. Haha.

I don't think they were aiming for I.AM and somehow settled for the new I.AM Ontario, Scott has worked with them in the past and they both talked in interviews about V/M being the team they look up to so once they announced they were leaving Igor we all speculated that this is a realistic option for them. I think they are getting the best out of both worlds - realistically with her Visa situation they will be pushing toward 2026 so they have time to develop this new coaching situation and they get to do it in a much less crowded school and get the added publicity that comes from being the first notable team to go to I.AM Ontario.

I agree. C/P don't have to stay with Scott all the way to 2026, but this is a good place to be to learn skills in the meantime.

Weird choice, Scott Moir has any experience as a coach. Anyway I wish them a lot of success. :) :)

As a coach you have to start somewhere. The set up Scott has, whereby he can ask for help from Gadbois anytime he needs it and Gadbois will be mentoring him, is the best way to start as a coach. That's probably why C/P felt comfortable going. They'll get Gadbois coaching in a less crowded atmosphere.

Ontario has already recognized high level figure skating training as essential. Skaters have been able to cross at land crossings bearing the right documentation. She could travel back and forth, especially as she has a Canadian passport.

It's a bit of a risk, but as next season is sort of up in the air anyway and they're not even eligible for 2022 they're better positioned to take that risk than most. Am curious to see who will be their US coaches.

Reminds me of Tarasova/Morozov's situation in pairs - Trankov is acting as their primary coach for now, but getting mentoring from Zueva. I think it will be a good move for C/P, hopefully they will get some good programs!

Zoueva was supposed to be their primary coach, but they’re currently having to stay in Russia because of YNW. I think they’d like to return to Florida at some point. Because of being in Russia, they had to flip things so Trankov is their primary coach and Zoueva watches video and weighs in from afar.

Trankov seems to be working out pretty well for T&M so maybe they should just stick with him.
I agree with that. I think this setup now with Trankov and Voronov is working for them better than last season—granted, Evgenia was skating on an injured leg last season. They have said they hoped to go back to Florida at some point, but I think they’d be better off if it were only short term for choreo and/or work on presentation.

Scott has been coaching part time for years
I don't think Scott has been coaching - maybe consulting occasionally. I believe he just recently took his first level official Skate Canada coaching program. I grant you he has some of the best skills and experiences that exist, but there is a big difference in being a world class competitor and being a successful coach and being responsible for the vision and training from sun up to sun down for your athletes. I'm not sure if he will just be taking on experienced ice dancers, but I have seen top level coaches trying to teach a Juvenile team to twizzle and it was not an easy thing to watch! :) Its great that he will have the diversity of other coaches to step in and I wish him all the best!

You say this like Scott Moir doesn’t have like, the Top 3 skating skills of all time. He’s not some scrub they found off the street lmao
To be fair, there is a difference between having a skill and being able to teach that skill. But one doesn't have to be a master in teaching technique to be a great ice dance coach - that's where specialists come in. And the timing is right for C&P to take a risk. Worst case, they move from Ontario on to Montreal after 2022.

Nor is Savchenko but that doesn't give her experience at being a top notch coach. The fact that Moir is tapped in with IAM might help, though, with the politics and--possibly more significantly with regard to C&P's development--with choreography & an emphasis on polish/improved GOE.

In sports in general, the best athletes rarely make the best coaches. While there are obviously exceptions, the skills set required has areas where it does not remotely overlap with being an elite athlete. And someone who is super talented might not really understand the struggles of someone who is not. Fortunately, these skills can be improved like any other skill. Fortunately for C/P, Scott has spent some -- albeit not a ton -- time developing his coaching skills.
