Cicely Tyson Dead at 96

I’m so happy I saw her on Broadway in The Gin Game with James Earl Jones. She was in her 90s but boy did she have tons of energy. She was moving across that stage and playing that character like an actress who was much younger. Gave a sensational performance with a totally different speaking voice than her normal one and everything.

Ms. Tyson was iconic in so many roles - I had no idea that she was in her 40s when she filmed Sounder, and her performance as Miss Jane Pittman was breathtaking. I remember being so moved by The Marva Collins Story as well.

As wonderful as Ruby Dee was in The Stand miniseries, I remember being surprised that Ms. Tyson didn't play Mother Abigail, as I had seen and heard her in my mind when reading that novel.

Even though it's been decades since I saw it, I still have vivid memories of her portrayal of Miss Jane Pittman. May she Rest In Peace.
Me too. It was the 1st I knew who she was & she's one of the actors that made me watch anything that they are in. Everything I saw her in was memorable.
