Do You Remember AM Radio?

When I was a kid, FM wasn't even a thing. At our house we listened to the Top 40 stations on AM radio.

Then my parents found WMMR (FM) and the famous Marconi Experiment and we would tune into that on Sundays even though it barely came in (it being up in NYC and us being down near Philly). My mom won the Beatles' White Album from them when it was first released!

There is a song by Bruce Springsteen called "Save My Love" which he started writing in the 70's. It had a sweet pop sound and his albums were headed down a darker road so he shelved it and just finished it recently. When he is introducing it in concert he talks about have a tiny transistor radio that he would listen to throughout the night hoping against hope to hear his favorite song knowing that his girlfriend was at her house listening too. I think that memory resonates w/a certain age.

Definitely WABC and Cousin Brucie. Didn't they use a clip of him at the beginning of the movie Dirty Dancing?

And WINS, 1010 on the dial -- Ten-Ten Wins -- "All the news, all the time" and "You give us 22 minutes, we'll give you the world."

It's the only radio station my grandfather played in the car, and he loved to drive :)
