This program was such a thorough disappointment from such an amazing team.

Not that anyone cares, but this was the first Olympics at which I watched all the skating as a true fan, and the reason was Jana Khokhlova! She was my favorite skater in any discipline at the time as well.

My impression is that people didn't really know, but it was realistic to assume they'd be under-prepared and therefore probably not. As soon as they skated the CD that became clearly true.

Only by eternal optimists. Isabelle had given birth less than five months before.

They would have been had they competed that season and showed up with good programs. They were the 2008 World Champions. With Isabella's pregnancy, no one really expected them to be.

I have to say, until last season I always thought Evan traded down when he dumped Emily for Madison.

In terms of skating skills and abilities, he did. But in terms of personal happiness and charisma - he made the right decision. He most likely partnered up with his life partner and that’s more important than anything.

They had won Worlds in 2008, so technically, yes. But Isabelle got unexpectedly pregnant in 2009 when the painkillers she was taking for her shoulder injury negated the effectiveness of her birth control pills (there was a LOT of discussion here). She only had the baby in October of 2009, so they really rushed to get programs ready for the Olympics.

The judges never went for their conceptual stuff with all the difficult/inventive transitions so they streamlined their style for the final years of their career.

Had she not injured her wrist in 2009, they were cruising to another world title with a Pink Floyd FD that had almost no thematic concept, and a fraction of the transitions they were attempting the years before.

Some of you probably haven't seen Khokhlova's Pirates of the Caribbean program, which I would argue is better than this one. The video is low-quality but I'm assuming we don't care about that this weekend.

Also kind of done dirty by circumstances. Novitski had a head injury and couldn't skate anymore, and the only "decent" partner she could find was new-to-dance freaking Fedor Neoptism Andreev.
