I'm going to get my head chopped off, but some of H/D and P/C's lifts are overscored. Gabriella isn't always elegant going in an out of it and can be hunchy with messy legs entering and exiting but they get near max scores for them and they don't have the complicated positions other teams have to "excuse" some of that. Sometimes her positions on the lifts aren't that great aesthetically either. However, P/C tend to do the lifts with such conviction and with the music and Guillaume tends to sell them well and there are some lifts I really enjoy. I do think P/C going simpler with their lifts do make them more flexible to be appropriate with the character/music as opposed to the overly complicated ones that seem to cross the line into circus trick.

FD protocols are now up for the Ice Mall Cup. And, in response to my question above, yes, Evdokimova & Bazin splatted. I'm going to assume during their invalidated rotational lift.

Meanwhile :cheer2:for Nazarova & Nikitin on the win. That really ought to be enough to select them for Worlds, I think. OK, it's an inflated end-of-the-season senior B event and the technical specialist is (kind of) Ukrainian. But I don't care. N&N have had such a crummy season. They are way overdue for a good competition; and a ten point win over a team that defeated Popova & Byelikov by 23 points at Europeans. That should really be enough, I hope.

Oh, for Pete's sake. And here I was thinking it would be OK to post the link here since it's the official video for the event. Lesson learned.

Molina is first and foremost an ice dance fan. But he's a political animal too, considering how the FFSG is run.

I have never witnessed bad calls from him, although, like all other judges, he's way too patriotic. Politiks.

But judges DO have friends on and off the ice. That's how this world runs.

That's a good point, a lot of people will drag out a judge's name and how they are related to so and so skater or with national bias but are we really surprised? The skating world is not that big and there's bound to be judges who watched the skaters in their country grow up. It'd be more surprising if there was a judge who doesn't have a link to an elite skater.

^^ We are talking about a world in which it’s fine for Guerreiro’s mother to be an assistant technical specialist at 4CC.
Why would it not be fine when he is competing for Russia and can't compete at 4CC? Or do you think she was intentionally trying to give lower levels to teams who could be Z/G's rivals at future competitions? I think that's a bit too convoluted for it to be a valid reason to not allow her to work as a technical specialist. I understand that she can't be on technical panels of competitions where her son is competing, but I don't think that's ever happened, so I am assuming it's not allowed anyway.

It's the possibility of undue influence from the federation or even the appearance of such.

I was referring to Molina but what about family members who are not close? Would that affect her credentials to sit out for a few years until her son is done competing and would she need to get accredited as a technical specialist all over again after? FTR I don't think she should be judging her son's competition but its also a bit of a slippery slope.

Does anyone have any opinions one way or another on Evdokimova or Bazin? They seem to have a lot of spirit and energy, although they arent that talented and polished. I follow him on instagram, he seems super funny and like a real character in real life.

They don't look like they just stepped off the cover of a romance novel, or out of a hollywood movie, or just off the runway of a fashion show, so they're going to get overlooked.

If they stick it out, I predict a long, long journey before they get anywhere near the top, ala Guignard & Fabbri.

Rerun of the battle between Popova & Mozgov, Evdokimova & Bazin, and Shpilevaya & Smirnov on Thursday & Friday at Universiade this week. That's actually a very interesting head-to-head with an international panel if they all skate well. Also Turkkila & Versluis and Galayavieva & Thauron could finish within the same mix. (Do we have any news on why Skoptcova & Aleshin elected not to skate?)

Of course, there are going to be--hopefully--loads of Junior Worlds performances I will have to watch first:biggrinbo.

Since there are multiple patterns allowed in the RD next year do we know how the key points will work? It must be difficult for the judges to have to watch so many different dances with different key points, how will they compare them?
