FIFA World Cup 2018

I don't recall a time where so many matches had an added time of 6+ minutes. Normally, 4 or 5 minutes is a lot. Thanks, VAR (not).

6 minutes is already on the low side. In connection with the Bundesliga it was mentioned earlier this year that out of 90 minutes, only around 60 are actually played.

I don't mind VAR. I only wish it was more clear how and when it is used.

According to a radio report I heard a couple of days ago, a video referee sits at a monitor and when he sees something that looks questionable (and that the referee on the field seems to have missed) or that he disagrees with the referee with, he communicates with the referee and suggests that the referee review the situation. The referee can then take the advice or not.

I thought that penalty being given to Iceland last night was rather dubious.

(Disclaimer, I did have £ on Croatia  so all ended well)

Sweden 2-0 up and currently leading the group with Mexico 2nd. If Germany want to progress they HAVE to get a goal and win.

South Korea trying to walk the ball into the net - shoot when you're in front of goal.

Mind you i want to see Mexico progress so maybe they could get a goal back in that goal to help their GD.

70' Sweden winning 2-0, Germany-Korea in a 0-0 draw. Germany is in serious jeopardy a this point. Even if they win, they'll still be out if Sweden doesn't score another goal or if Mexico scores a goal. Yikes.

Is Mexico actually out if Germany manage to score? Living dangerously  (Not as much as Germany itself atm but still...)

ETA - Lilia answered, thanks! Crazy stuff.

@Lara Yes, but only if they (Mexico) also don't score. If they score the same number of goals, GD is the same, and then Mexico advance based on the total number of goals scored in the group.

ETA: And Sweden scores again. At this point, if Germany score and Mexico-Sweden scoreboard doesn't change, Germany advance. However, they haven't scored and it's not looking promising so....

We've had a couple of possibilities with favourites exiting at this stage but Spain and Portugal whilst not playing well squeak in. Then Argentina also playing badly are on the verge of exiting yesterday and manage to squeak through. Can Germany do the same today?

Nearly stoppage time... :yikes:

Wish both Mexico and Germany could make it but congrats to Sweden (they do have a substitute from Leeds).

Reigning champs eliminated. It's like 2002 all over again.
Every soccer expert Youtuber predicted that Germany would win the group AND make the top 4. Welp, not happening.

It came down to Mexico's win over Germany in the end. What a crazy group. And I can't imagine what it's like to actually have your own country to root for if it's this nerveracking already!
