So more hope Russians can move to spiliband or zueva as they become the loser rejects of coaching in North America (or vice versa)!!!

Also on the 2018-19 Quebec Team B dance list with Patrice Lauzon & Marie-France Dubreui as their coaches are Emmy Bronsard & Aissa Bouaraguia who are the 2017 Canadian Pre-Novice Dance silver medalists (did not compete Novice at Challenge last December).

I can't imagine Hubbell/Donohue are happy about this.

Why? Maybe it is time to consider training as something beyond competition between skaters. Like Gabi and Madi (Hubbel) like to say: you are competing first and foremost against yourself, trying to conquer your own insecurities and better your technique. It can also a be very dynamic environment to train alongside other skaters you know and appreciate. Marie-France and her team have created a gem of a training program. I just hope it doesn't become unmanageable.

... Greg Zuerlein posted a pic on his Instagram a week or so ago of him in Wheaton with M/C and the Parsons, with a comment that it had been a great first 2 weeks there. I think we can probably assume that's a confirmation of the rumor.
Yuliia Zhata is tagged in Zuerlein's IG photo linked above and I noticed she shared an IG photo during Ukrainian Nationals last December in which Zuerlein is taking a selfie (he must have been coaching Nazarova/Nikitin there): https://www.instagram.com/p/Bc5Y0rrntTw/
I was unaware that Zhata/Lukouski trained with the Wheaton group - were they with them all last season? http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00102044.htm

I think all the skaters get along very well on a personal level. Bitter personal rivalries are certainly the exception rather than the rule these days.

I expect the problem is time and resources. Will so many teams, it will be a question of whether everyone is getting adequate time with the coaches and also their best ideas. Then there's the issue of hierarchy amongst the teams. Who wants to find themselves team #12? I've think I've actually heard one of the Gadbois coaches (maybe Patrice) refer to H/D as the 'number 3' team. Which shows that rankings are very real. And probably not an issue previously when H/D very uncontestedly were number 3. But maybe not so much when your rivals are there and the coaches have assigned you a ranking you don't agree with. There's also the question of who gets the best music and choreographic ideas.

I do have a question that someone could help me with. Let's say you are one of 19 or 20 (not sure how many now) teams at Gadbois. I'm presuming that the assistant coaches train them the majority of time? How is that preferable to say being Igor/Pasquale's only team. Wouldn't that team get so much more high level coach attention?

To a certain extent, I think previously Gadbois was viewed as this special little club for the chosen few. But that pretty much isn't the case now that it has turned into the central ice dance training location.

To some extent, high level skaters are experienced enough that they can handle the day to day business of training, they hire the coaches for the grand plan and vision. I assume D/L have consulted with all their teams, both current and incoming, about what to expect and how they're planning on handling this. Many skaters feel that the presence of high level competition in the rink pushes their own skating forwards and makes them better. I think this level of in rink competition might be a tad excessive, but I'm not the one training there. Either it'll work or it won't. It wouldn't surprise me to see some teams eventually leave for roomier pastures where they can get more individual attention, especially those that have been at Gadbois before it got so crowded, or even the newer teams that overestimated their willingness to train with half the dance world.

It will definitely be interesting to see all this play out.

I'm thinking of situations where teams have been told by judges at the Senior Bs they need a new short dance etc etc and then the skaters and coaches stay on the ice until midnight to get a new program ready in a fortnight.

Would that be possible at Gadbois now? Or would it just be a case of 'you get a half hour one-on-one session every second day with Marie-France, so sorry we don't have time'? or would the schedules be cleared if skaters really urgently needed the attention?

The Gadbois team doesn't strike me as a group of callous trainers. I would think that they first made sure that they have the necessary infrastructure and manpower to accompany the skaters and second made clear to these skaters the rules and structured frame inside which they would work.
I also doubt they would put their hard work and success in jeopardy. Then again, I don't know that I am right but they seem to me a very level-headed and principled group of professionals. They really have won the trust of quite a few very good teams.

They are not trained to be 5th place or 3rd place. They are trained to go for gold always.

This post indicates that the end of Bobrova/Soloviev might be some ways away. This post Olympic season seems oddly light on the retirements. Have C/L officially announced either way yet?

 I was not expecting this from Bobrova/Soloviev! I thought Ekaterina was pretty definite that she wanted to take at least a year off.

Cappellini/Lanotte haven't made any announcement yet. I think they're on tour in Japan right now, so it could be they will announce after that. But yeah I'm starting to wonder if they're going to continue too. Maybe no one will retire any more; they'll just keep skating till they're 40!

Everyone has been inspired by Aljona Savchenko! Plus, I think Russian ice dance has a game plan. Which is probably easier to define now that all of its competition is training under the same coaches.

Here's a fun blog post from U.S. novice/junior ice dancer TJ Carey (Pettersson/Carey):

My Top 10 Favorite Pattern Dances
https://dutchtogolden.blogspot.com/

He provides videos for each pattern and talks about which ones are most fun to perform, which ones are the hardest, etc.

(The video of Bestemianova/Bukin doing the Kilian was my favorite. The stillness of their upper bodies in this dance was jaw-dropping! And their edges.)

I like B/S and happy if they stay a bit longer. They are more fun to watch then many. The whole idea of skating until 40 is scary. There are many couples who i would like to see retiring in favor of younger generation.

But all the teams are moving to dubreuil because that’s all the judges want to see. It’s the only way to ice dance. Nothing else is acceptable.

Interesting. Really excited to see what the Gadbois camp will do with Chock and Bates though, that could be epic, especially if they can fix their twizzles!!!

But just out of curiousity will C/P become Igor's number 1 priority? Many of his dancers seem to have struggled with their twizzles this season. Who will Marina work with? Very interesting indeed.

I wonder what is going on with Nazarova and Nikitin . They are one of my favourites.
