Relations turn bitter between Russia's top figure skaters
Russian coach suggests silver medallist Medvedeva wanted Olympic champion Zagitova barred from Pyeongchang

"Eteri Tutberidze, who coached gold medallist Alina Zagitova and silver medallist Evgenia Medvedeva, says Medvedeva has frozen her out. She also suggests Medvedeva wanted Zagitova barred from the Olympics."

"There was this really childish phrase: 'Couldn't you have kept Alina in the juniors for one more year?"' Tutberidze quoted Medvedeva, who is nicknamed Zhenya, as saying. "I said, 'Zhenya, what?' We have to give everyone the same chance. You have to in sport. We don't have the right to hold a person back."

"Her sudden departure has sparked speculation in Russia that she may be preparing to retire or to switch her allegiance to Armenia, for which she might be eligible thanks to her Armenian biological father."
Here you go! :watch: And a few :40beers: to wash it down. :)

I really love this part and am cautiously hopeful about the change!

In his Seoul meeting with Medvedeva and her mother, Orser said he concentrated on moving forward rather than dwelling on the situation the skater had been in. The two of them have exchanged several text messages a day since then.

"The main thing is she needs to have a voice in her own skating," Orser said. "We have been discussing music, what direction we want to go -- she has never had that luxury before. She told me it was, 'This is what you're skating to. This is the order of your spins, these are your spin positions.'''

"I really had a lot of respect for her instantly because she told me, 'I don't want to say anything bad about my current coaching situation.'''
Girl is definitely coming off a lot more mature than Eteri - she's even being graceful with the change in private.

If this is her only public gripe about her old coaching team, It'd say it's a very reasonable one.
At her age she should be able to make choices about her skating, and if she needs to move in order to do so, good for her. She seems very creative, so I'll be excited to see what she can come up with.

I suspect her statement about this being best for everyone is how she really feels.

Huge respect that she was attempting to do this without going off on her old coaches. Her parents raised her right.

I'm super excited by this. My favorite Zhenya program was her senior debut LP and I've never seen her quite skate as well as that since. She's a fierce competitor and I think she's doing what's best for her. Sounds like she's going into a great working environment where she'll get a fresh start. I'be been a huge fan the last few years and can't wait to see what changes will come.

Also excited for Polina if she is making a change. I have nothing against Eteri I think she did her job well and gave them the tools they needed to get where they are. Now it's time to move onto someone who can give them the individual attention they need to help them at this stage of their career. Eteri has several juniors that she'll be busy with, along with Alina. She'll be fine. Everyone will be fine.

So it happened about the way I figured. They met up at the show they were both involved in April and she had previously pumped his students about what they experienced working with Brian and what they thought of her going there. She has been in so many shows, banquets and gala's that other students attended that she knows them quite well. I am glad her mother is going as well and that David Wilson will do her programs. It is good that Med and Gabby were both at the April show to get to know each other better. I was shocked that she wanted to come but really like the idea. The best to all involved.

Gosh FSU sure does love it a good apples to oranges comparison! Switching coaches is very usually in skating especially for someone at a crossroads like med currently is. A two time world champ switching countries is almost unheard of. Who would she switch to? Is Canada in the habit of taking Russian ladies skaters whom just recently beat a Canadian lady at Olys and worlds? It all sounds kinda far fetched and fantastical imo
Q
I am excited about this change too. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity for artistic expansion for her and Orser.

The 2A was her weakness. May be Brian can fix that.

I am very excited that she will be coached by Orser. He is the best in the business.

It definitely sounds like Evgenia is taking control of her career and I have to admire and respect that. I like that she's going to be given more of a voice in what she skates to, what her programs are like, how her programs are arranged...as a person enters adulthood I think things like this need to be more in the hands of the skater than the coaching team. Let the skater find something that moves and motivates them. Making choices is part of being what an adult is.

I'm excited for her. I think this is a very smart move and that it will pay off for her.

I was hoping for Buttle or Bourne for choreography but David Wilson will do :) It’s a big step up.
I am not as fond of Jeff's chorea. but I love Bournes and Wilson's. Wilson is fantastic for the long and all the boxes will be checked with tons of transitions. They have to get to know Med and she them b4 they get too deep in the process.

She has shown good judgement in areas she had a say in. She ditched the half tights over the boots really fast.
In one of her social media "postings", i got an impression that she wants to skate "characters/themes that represent her", rather than to "abstract music/images".

What's the Russian phrase for "morally ready"?

ETA: Thanks to @Ka3sha for clarifying the translation to "mentally ready" in post #381 above (though I liked the original phrase better! :P).

I'm just so excited about the possibilities with a new choreographer. It was never her skating so much I didn't like as her programs. They always felt a little "jam packed" to me -- which some people prefer -- but I like programs with a bit more "space" in them, time for moments to take place, breaths and stretch. Really looking forward to some great things!

ITA. All Eteri programs run from one move to the next, I complained about it with Julia five years ago. I don’t think Orser’s own taste level is the highest but he’s clearly a great coach for handling star skaters beleaguered by media and fans. With the right programs, Med could have a very long career as the other Eteri girls blaze up and burn out. I’m thrilled with the move.

Eteri is on Russian tv again, saying that she hopes that "Evgenia will have the decency to come to the rink and bring her (Eteri) flowers"
And that situations like this aren't new for her, students had left her in the past, so she already got herself morally ready for this

Someone text David Wilson...to choreograph a program about flowers to Eteri! :EVILLE::EVILLE:
You don't bring me flowers
You don't skate to my songs
You hardly talk to me anymore
When I come through the door at the end of the day
I remember when
You couldn't wait to love me
Used to hate to leave me
Now after leavin' me sitting sighin'
When it's good for you, babe
And you're feeling alright
Well, your eyes glaze over
And you turn to Brian
And you don't bring me flowers anymore
It used to be so natural (Used to be)
To talk about forever
But used-to-be's don't count anymore
They just lay on the floor till we sweep them away
And baby, I remember
All the things I taught you
You learned how to laugh
And you learned how to cry
Well you learned how to lutz
And you learned how to lie
So you'd think you could learn
How to tell me goodbye
You don't bring me flowers anymore
Well, I'd think you could learn
How to tell me goodbye
You don't write to me
And you don't skate to my songs
You don't bring me flowers anymore
:fragile:

Google translation of the quote before the one translated above:
"Yes, now I will live and train in North America," said the sportswoman, "As for the [rumored] change of sports citizenship, it's absolute nonsense. All the normal and sane people understand this perfectly well that it does not concern me. I will live in Canada, I just have to change my place of residence for an indefinite period."

ETA: Love her "normal and sane people" comment!
if it makes any difference...

All the normal and sane people understand this perfectly well that it does not concern me.
is actually: All the normal and sane people understand this perfectly well that such possibility is not applicable to me (in my case).
