DWTS S26: All-Athletes Edition! (i.e. the DWTS thread for NOT yammering about what happened 24 years ago)

Tonya won silver at 1991 Worlds, not bronze. She has only one National title, the 1994 title was vacated.

I liked Adam best, followed closely by Josh and Mirai. But I don't bother voting, so what I like doesn't count.

I remember now, it was Kristy 1st, Tonya 2nd, & Nancy 3rd. I included the 1994 title since she actually got the gold around her neck before they stripped her of it.

Just sharing my take on what I observed with the contestants. I thought Mirai was awesome. She had pizazz and I was totally impressed. Adam was spectacular and also had that pizazz. Josh was dynamite and exploded like a firecracker. I thought Tonya did pretty well. She was graceful and fluent most of the time, but was a little stiff in the shoulders. She should be proud of that fact and be thankful that she's still in the competition because she was almost one of the chosen to leave last night. :)

Loved Mirai!! Loved Adam too. And really enjoyed Josh and Chris... this is my ideal final four. Have no idea how they are going to do this short format. Do they do a freestyle dance on week 3 to have the finale on week 4? It really is too short.

Tonya was decent in dancing but I had a hard time stomaching the whole "redemption" storyline... it doesn't help when she says things like she was the best skater in the world and how skating was taken away from her. But the DWTS production is worse than anything Tonya says - putting her in supposed "jeopardy" (yeah right) and the throwing of flowers, etc. They are pushing hard for her.

I see Adam as the frontrunner but I wouldn't be surprised if Josh takes this... he's very good, football players are extremely popular on DWTS, Sharna is more well-liked than Jenna and has been around longer so some DWTS fans feel she deserves the mirror ball more, plus many skating fans will be splitting votes and DWTS fans are rather conservative and skew older but we will see. I just hope both Adam and Mirai make it all four weeks so we can see as much dancing from them as possible!

Well, that story is going to really piss people off.

I know.... maybe I guess....

In her package she was saying how she was banned from skating and
I think one year at Skate America she beat Yamaguchi while landing all the triples through axel. It’s somewhere on YouTube - an amazing skate. No other woman had her tech content except for Ito. Her jumps were huge, especially against Yamaguchi, who wasn’t all that fast or powerful.

Yeah bit thats just a competition of a sub-population.

Just because you get a gold at Cup of China doesnt translate to Best in the world???? That was a competition of 12 at best....

ANL still confused.....

I only watched the skaters. Yeah....that DWTS intro for Tonya was a little disingenuous  I can't imagine many of the tv audience wouldn't be more familiar with the story after the film, but still....

I thought both Mirai and Adam were great. :)

Did I read that correctly? Someone said she was robbed on her season of DWTS & she agreed? Just because she's probably the best gymnast in the world doesn't mean she should win everything she does. I watched her season & she was good but not the best.

Jeez, no need to be nasty and put words in her mouth. And she was certainly better than the baseball player that made it to the finale.

The package for Tonya said that she was banned from skating in shows. That is wrong. She was banned from USFSA-sanctioned activities. She could have skated in non-sanctioned shows or tours, and there are plenty of those. They aren't Stars On Ice, but they're there.

I know that DWTS is playing up the sympathy angle, and it's not too concerned with accuracy, but between that and the two-time national champion misstatement, I was really annoyed with how they presented Tonya (who I feel more than a little sympathy for).

I'm not being nasty & I'm not putting words in her mouth: "you were robbed" "yes". Sounds to me that she thought she was robbed.

And then you went on to say she doesn't deserve to win everything she does, when you don't know if she thinks that or not. Maybe she thought she just deserved a place in the finale or maybe she just liked a fan showing her support.

Thus far, no skater has come on and been bad, including Evan and Nancy. I'm not surprised Tonya did a solid job.

Don't forget Dorothy, despite the fact she had to retire early in her DWTS season due to injury...

With Adam and Mirai being on DWTS, I was brought back to watch on tv in real time. And they have not disappointed. It would be nice to see them both for longer than four weeks, but the shortness might work out for both of their schedules. I haven't watched DWTS the last several seasons. Sometimes I've checked out specific past dance match-ups on Youtube.

I'm sorry to say I think that Kareem deserved to be cut post-haste, not the retired baseball player, Johnny Damon.

Obviously the producers want Adam to win but I'm not so sure.
Based on everything I've read, both pre-premiere and after the show, Adam is far and away the viewer and fan favourite. Some people find Mirai to be a bit annoying.

Sasha Farber looks so thrilled to have Tonya as his partner. Great to see an Australian represented on the show in this capacity, too. They make a great team.
A few pros. Peta Murgatroyd (who is out this season but has won twice) is Australian. Sharna Burgess is Australian too.

Sasha Farber (Саша/Aлександр Фарбер) the dancer, is from Moscow, and he is a Russian Jew, not Australian..

I think Adam's attempt at being witty is going to get old very quickly. He's not nearly as amusing as he thinks he is.

I'm all about the football guy.
This reminds me of a joke I overheard in a restaurant once:
Friend 1: “Julia Roberts isn’t a bad actress!”
Friend 2: “well, she’s no Meryl Streep”
Friend 3: “please, Meryl Streep is no Meryl Streep!”

I.e. Adam didn’t get famous and invited to be on a popular reality tv show because most media, entertainment producers, and viewers agree with you.

I'm supposed to care what reality TV producers think? They created kardashians

Not surprising how much everyone, their mother, brother, sister and pets simply love AdaRipp! Cool to see the love for such a cool, sweet, talented cutie the skating world has loved since forever (minus a few clueless fs fans).
Um, anyone who doesn't happen to like or love Adam for whatever reason doesn't mean they are "clueless." I post this as a longtime fan of Adam's who has been bemused, but not surprised, at the wider audience he has been/is reaching beyond figure skating fans.

You are most definitely NOT the target audience for reality shows like the Kardashians'. :D

People have said that Mirai comes off as cocky. I didn’t pick that up at all. The only thing I can think of is when she mentioned that she got the “title”of being the first US lady to land a 3A in the Olympics. I noticed during the Olympics that many people thought that was disrespectful to Tonya.

You changed the meaning of what I said. IMO she deserves everything she's won in gymnastics. I said: Just because she's probably the best gymnast in the world doesn't mean she should win everything she does.

Show me where she said yes

Oops, bad memory. She said "I know".

 People as in....whom?

Mirai IS the first American woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics.

I am pretty sure the "I know" was in reference to Adam Rippon not being a prospective husband for her. The "robbed" comment came in the response to her "I know."

Oops, bad memory. She said "I know".

Still not seeing it. The "I know" was in response to "Honey I have some news for you" (i.e. Adam's gay). She didn't respond to the post saying she was robbed.
