DWTS S26: All-Athletes Edition! (i.e. the DWTS thread for NOT yammering about what happened 24 years ago)

 People as in....whom?

Mirai IS the first American woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics.

I am pretty sure the "I know" was in reference to Adam Rippon not being a prospective husband for her. The "robbed" comment came in the response to her "I know."

Commenters on social media. Keep in mind Tonya has a lot more supporters than you think. And these fans do not like Mirai at all.

I have only watched Adam and Mirai's performances. I like Mirai's more but I do find her tried too hard to be likable which, to me, came off as a bit unnatural.

Mirai does her best in a competition when she attacks her jumps. Last night she attacked each move, so it felt a little pose-y. She needs to let it flow.

Oh, I was not clear in my message. I was referring to her interaction with her partner during the intro piece and the after dance conversation with the MC. But that's just my opinion and I am not familiar with the premise of this programme to say if she was over or fit right in the programme, I do hope she goes far.

I thought Mirai was great on the dance floor, but what I'm reading about comments around the internet pertains a lot to her speaking. She has a bit of a 'valley girl' way of speaking, and her voice sounds a bit awkward, which can make it a bit cringe-y.

People have said that Mirai comes off as cocky. I didn’t pick that up at all. The only thing I can think of is when she mentioned that she got the “title”of being the first US lady to land a 3A in the Olympics. I noticed during the Olympics that many people thought that was disrespectful to Tonya.

I'm sorry but WTF? Disrespectful to Tonya??? Tonya splatted on her ass when she tried to land a triple axel at the Olympics. Twice. Mirai actually landed a pretty much perfect one. Mirai DOES get the "title" of being the first US lady to land a triple axel at the Olympics. And who is this "many" people? I never heard or saw anything even remotely like that, and I pretty much lived on the internet during the Olympics.

I don’t feel like digging up comments on social media to tell you exactly who said what. I’m just telling you what I saw during the Olympics.

I’m a huge Mirai fan, so I was super proud of that moment when she finally landed her 3A. It’s very sad that people will quibble over things like this. But people show their devotion to their favorites in odd ways.

Sasha Farber (Саша/Aлександр Фарбер) the dancer, is from Moscow, and he is a Russian Jew, not Australian..
He moved to Australia as a toddler, and his citizenship is solely listed as Australian.
Yes, his citizenship is Australian, but he is not Australian (ethnically).
So he’s Australian. It’s pretty simple.

If he is flying over Russia and the plane has to make an emergency landing, is he afraid he will have an extended stay while they check for the absence of Russian Citizenship? And will his stay be in Siberia after doing one very public appearance at the Bolshoi? ;)

Wow, lol!!! I guess Sasha, who lives the the US, will never sleep now.

Wow, I'm impressed with Adam! I mean, I thought he'd do fairly well, but that was really good! And props to Jenna for the choreo, including that fs-inspired ending :biggrinbo

How the contestants do it in high heeled shoes is a bit beyond my comprehension, as I never learned to wear heels at other (other than a very low 'v' heel or 1 inch block heel).
I don't know how :yikes:this is to proper ballroom technique, but if I ever dance in heels I'm really just on my toes 95% of the time. If you ever have to step heel first, I guess you'd just better be mindful of your balance/keeping your weight where it should be.

So he’s Australian. It’s pretty simple.
I love words. It's amazing how even the smallest things can be interpreted in ways that surprise us. I'm reminded of an article I read recently of an Irishman's experience in the US. One thing he found strange was the way people state their heritage as *being* ___ ("Oh, you're from Ireland? I'm Irish!"). And it wasn't even a language barrier, just usage!

I honestly didn’t see that. She seemed pretty humble and friendly. I wish people would pinpoint the moment she said something cocky, because I am completely lost.

I've seen a lot of this too and was wondering where it came from/where I had missed it from the show (because no one has said anything specific that she did or said that was cocky, just that she "came off" that way). But honestly, this is reality tv. Not everyone is going to like her. Mirai should just try to be herself, and if that's the hill the voters want to die on and she goes home early, so be it. After listening for years that Mirai skates with a "dead face" and needs to show more expression, I was happy to see her come out looking expressive and confident. Adam is better spoken, but it's sad to me that a woman could never get away with half the things he says. If Ashley, Gracie, or Polina had been on DWTS, I wouldn't be surprised if viewers thought that they came across as arrogant too.

This discussion reminds me of WAAAAAAY back in the day when people got all over Oksana Baiul for saying she said or did something because she was Russian. And people on a board argued that no, she was wrong to say that because she was FROM Ukraine (actually "the Ukraine" but we learned not to use "the"............) not Russia. Geez.

Without going back to watch, I remember her saying something to the effect that people should vote for her because she and Adam want to be the final two. It sounded entitled.

I really don’t know much about her - I find ladiezz skating to be pretty much unwatchable nowadays - but as I said previously she sounded to me like she was trying too hard to be funny/edgy and it came off wrong.

Adam was amazing! I haven't watched anything else yet (I'm not in the US, hope there's more videos for me somewhere out there) but I just have to say, I can live with him trying to be maybe a bit too funny all the time, because I really want for him to be as happy as he is now. He's glowing, on every occasion. He's a totally different person, and skater, and now also dancer, now than before he came out, and I followed him since he was a tiny teenager. It's so good to see. Every person who had a tough time in life, whatever reason, deserves to shine. I'm so glad he's getting all these opportunities and that he finally can be himself.

Off to search for Mirai! (and you guys got me curious on the football player too!)

Jesus Chris....is that what people think she sounds entitled for? :D:scream: I would most definitely not make it on a reality show.
Eh. It's a competition and IMHO most viewers want contestants who are hungry for the trophy. I feel like the ones who go on these type of shows and then act like they expect to come in 2nd to last are the ones viewers are put off by. I'm sure some did find it "entitled" and I'm sure they were a vocal minority.

I don't know why some of you want to portray me as a Simone hater. I was blown away by her at the Olys & was rooting for her all the way. And I thought she was very good on DWTS. Is it being a hater if I don't think she was the best? Her season had several people that were outstanding. Here's the tweets, if I misunderstood, I'm sorry:

What device are you looking at Twitter from? Because that reads in the opposite direction from the way it's pulling up on Chrome:

Just a question that popped into my mind. What social media are you talking about? Is this from articles, other message boards, etc. I know several 'fans' including several FB friends from my area that love Mirai. I have around 474 FB friends, and not one of them has ever mentioned they didn't like Mirai. Most of them mentioned on my timeline how much they liked Mirai, and these friends were from the area where I live.

So where are these fans that don't like Mirai? Could you please provide links to where you got that info. Thanks in advance. :)

Erin asked prodded her about trash talking Adam. Mirai demmurred and said first she’s focused on getting to the finals. Then she begged the viewers to vote for her and Alan.

I think where I had seen most of it was the Dancing with the Stars Instagram comments (and people telling Alan on his own instagram that his partner needs to be more "humble"), and also on the Previously TV Dancing with the Stars forum. Maybe it's just the vocal minority, but I was wondering if I missed something major she had said or done during the actual show.
