What a horrific performance by Russian ice dance teams in the short dance!!!

Not really. If the Shibs and V/M were here they'd really be 9th and 10th. Isn't that about where they've been the entire quad? Not a bad debut really for Z/G, if anything S/B may be a little bit disappointed with themselves but those who placed above them were just too good today.

But they can move up so let's see how things pan out after the free dance they could get those three spots yet.

I like how the people know what they can't know...Maybe Pasquale was a choreographer and Anjelika was the trainer who worked more with their pairs on the ice.

Probably the children moved back with Anjelika...

I'm surprised Camerlengo would allow it. 13 and 11 are tough ages to move children. But maybe they are adaptable. Moving to Russia will be a culture shift for them though after being born and raised in the US.

It’s still very bad! What about the days of medals and titles at worlds? I guess that’s over.

Three spots would be such a waste. I hope it doesn’t happen. They need to learn ijs ice dance first and get a couple who can medal or win worlds first.

I don't think it's known yet where the children will be living (Russia or U.S.).

Aaa, forgot about that detail. Hopefully the Russian Fed will help sort this one out soon, especially given Sotskova's and Konstantinova's performances this week.

Alina may have just lost her easiest chance of winning a world title. When the officials meet there is no doubt they will make new rules concerning the back loading of jumps and tanos. Her advantage will be wiped away completely. It will be advantage Med. (if she can fully conquer her injury which will certainly be a challenge) who will have the PCS advantage. Plus all the newly arriving multi talented countrywomen who will be breathing down her back as well. She's lucky this was the Olympic season and not the season or two before.

I do feel really sorry for her though. She wasn't ready for worlds because of all the post Olympic activities she had to take part in and couldn't train properly. None of it was her fault and perhaps she should not have been there although I do give her all credit for trying when many these days wouldn't. She's a real fighter though so I expect this experience will only make her more determined to continue. Now she has a more definite goal for the future (if she had won here she would have all the titles and as many asked before, "what's left for her to achieve?").

As for the ice dancing yeah it was predictably not pretty. Although if it hadn't been for the deduction S/B would have been 6th and only .16 out of 5th. And even with the deduction their only behind 6th by .01 and 5th by 1.16. Overall as the #2 team they did fine plus considering them coming to worlds with the controversy that took them out of the Olympics on their backs. And Z/G being 8th, at their first worlds, is pretty solid for a team that though out the season was barely considered #3 in Russia.

I don't expect it to happen but if S/B could potentially move up to 5th, and Z/G could hold on to 8th over the second Italians (a lot easier said then done with the competition being held in Italy), then they could get the three spots. Like I said I don't expect it to happen but I think their much closer to the three spots after the SD then everybody thought they would be after B/S pulled out.

Actually, all things considered, I think they did pretty well. S/B had some trouble but are only 3 points out of a medal. And a 72 for Z/G, a relatively new team to major competitions, is amazing!!!
I do miss Bobrova and Soloviev though...

No skater wins every competition they enter! Zagitova managed to win all but one this year.

For those who watched Alina's LP : it's like she couldn't fight for those landings, she might have tried but her legs were giving up, almost like there was nothing you could do. Like a clear case of pure physical exhaustion, and when you combine that with mental exhaustion too...
She needs to stop skating for a couple of weeks and sleep, sleep, sleep. The body needs to rest if she wants to train in full force again.

That’s taking things out of context. Zagitova must be shattered. There were so many commitments connected with her olympic medal that she had to fit in while still training for the worlds, I am not surprised she wasn’t performing her usual standard. But I wouldn’t call it an epic meltdown, she was still good enough to be fifth. Konstaninova did not have a meltdown, she has never skated a clean competition outside Russia, and this is moreless her usual standard. So the only meltdown was Pogorilaya.

Who would've thought Russia would medal in men's at this Worlds, but not in ladies??

I must say, I'm becoming a fan of Kolyada. In this new-look Worlds, without the longtime big 3 of Hanyu, Chan, and Fernandez present, Kolyada really stood out with his extension, line, and basic skating quality. Which, to be frank, is miles ahead of some of the more hyped quad phenoms. Potential rules changes this year could also work in Kolyada's favor to make him a real contender in years to come. Although he's GOT to become more consistent. (I'm not sure his inconsistency is due to quads--some skaters are just inconsistent no matter what level of content they're attempting.)

I only got to see part of Aliev's long program so far, but I like him too.

It wasn't pretty, but I'm so happy for Koylada. Hopefully, this will help his confidence. He has the skills. His problems are all in his head. And, Dima has had quite a senior debut. All of them have to be exhausted both mentally and physically.

I hope Zagitova goes home and is a kid for a while. Bless her. The expectations on her were more than I'd want to deal with. She's had an amazing two years. She gave all she had to give.

Now, let's hope Stepanova/Bukin can move up at least a couple of spots. They need the boost going into next season.

Tarasova says Zagitova grew 3cm since Olympics (which is something I wondered about as well, I thought she looked slightly taller here). She also says she needs to eat less.

Russian diva coach, Tatiana Tarasova, who was commentating for a Russian network, had her own ideas. “Since the Olympic Games, [Zagitova] had grown by three centimetres,” she said through translation. “She does not understand this, but there is no puberty. Just need to eat less. When you grow up, the muscles just do not keep up with growth and coordination is lost.”
