So next year's SD rhythm is Tango.

Anyone want to place a bet on how many times 'Tango de Roxanne' will be used? :saint::rofl:
Hopefully none since MR was overused this season across disciplines. Hopefully no Libertango either because overused too.
We'll probably get some Adios Nonino. Gotan Project and Astor Piazzolla for sure.

Chock/Bates had a Gotan Project EX this year.

Yes moving on... I have ironically never really liked Tango de Roxanne. If some tango needs to be incessantly done I would prefer the Assassin's Tango

I don't like tango on ice too much but I prefer it to Latin so I'm ready for next season. We can probably expect non tango music a bit like what V/M and P/C this year. I do enjoy Gotan project but it's been so used as well as Libertango. Let's hope for more variety though I wouldn't hold my breath. G/P should do well after their successful tango FD. S/B and S/K have also done one recently not as successfully though. P/C did skate a tango FD in their junior year too. Seems like an rite of passage in ID.

I'm not the biggest fan of tango, so I'm facing next season with a bit of trepidation. Tango is one of my least favorites of the traditional dances/patterns--largely because it's been so overdone in recent years, by singles skaters even more so than ice dancers. (Even pairs skaters have been getting into the act!)

It used to be my favourite but I think continental tango will mesh well with several teams today.

I used to love the snappy tangos of Grishuk & Platov and Krylova & Ovsiannikov.

The links above are more acoustic versions of tangos but have really nice variances.

I hope it isn't done either, especially since I doubt anyone is likely to do it as well as V/M did (at least imo). I'm not sure what to expect. Often when a top team uses music, we see several people use it the next year, but it was everywhere this year, so maybe that'll keep people way from it. I wouldn't be surprised to see some juniors or lower to mid level seniors do it though.

I agree that G/P should be good since that FD worked really well. I also think tango will work well for H/D, FB/S and W/P (if they stay). M/C's Argentinian Tango FD this season was pretty good. I also think it will suit S/A's long lines and fairly elegant style well, which might help with the move up from juniors. And it should work for H/K.

How do you think it'll work for P/C? Sharp movements, which I associate with tango, aren't really their strength, but maybe that's not as much of an issue for Tango Romantica. I'm curious what they'll pair it with and exactly what direction they'll go for in the presentation. Hopefully they surprise me with something great, since they're so good and I love tangos.

I'm excited for next season as tango is one of my favorite styles/patters :encore:
I agree that usually there isn't much variety, but tbh there isn't variety this year with Latin either... (and I'd rather watch ten tangos than one latin).
We'll likely see lots of Moulin Rouge, Chicago, and Libertango, but I guess some teams will try to go outside the box too.
I personally love Gotan project but there are many more artists in this genre (just search 'electro tango' on Spotify) so it shouldn't be too hard to find something contemporary and fresh.

I like Adios Nonino, and it seems to have become less warhorsey in recent years? Or maybe I've been watching less skating ;)

My favorite version is from the Dutch royal wedding in 2002, which means that nobody will be able to use it.

I thought their Paso Doble had lots of sharp movements associated with languid moments, so sharp movements won't be as much of an issue as people seem to think. When they were junior they tried themselves at many styles actually like that extremely fast paced Rock n'Roll FD which they skated well with acrobatic lifts too. Their senior debut FD on Woodkid also had quite sharp movements and was very fast paced. Guillaume is particularly good with sharp movements whereas Gaby has a tendency to soften her movements so she'll need to work on that. OTOH she's excellent at capturing the mood of the music and the style of the dance. Musically though, I hope they will go a more traditional yet out of the box road rather than taking a pop song like they did this year.
The Danes should be wonderful, especially after the great Flamenco they gave us this year but we'll have to wait till 4CC to see it. I expect Hurtado/Khaliavin to do great too. I loved Hurtado/Diaz paso doble and H/K's SD this year was very enjoyable too.

I feel like I already know what P/C's tango will look like, but I could be totally wrong. Their Latin ended up looking differently than what I had anticipated as it was a lot more playful and more casual (not easy) than I expected with Guillaume smiling a whole lot. In the end, I learned we shouldn't assume certain teams will do well and not based on our past ideas about those teams. If they are a top team, they'll learn to adapt to themes that people think they'd be weak on.

I'm going to bet nobody in the top 20 will be touching that with a 50 feet pole.

I like Tango better than Latin. I am hoping for some innovative SDs not warhorse music. :D

LOL Really? After the big uproar about the number of teams who used unconventional Latin music? I want to say most team will stick to more traditional tango music but I thought the same about Latin so we shall see.

You should be able to see their programs from at minimum, Canadian Nationals not sure about other internal Canadian events that they may be able to do.

Personally, I love them over G&P and on par with Weaver & Poje so hope they are in the hunt for at minimum silver at Nationals.

They can skate at Minto and the quebec summer skate and I would think they have to skate in Quebec Sectionals so they can qualify for challenge to get to nationals...I think they would have had to skate in the grand prix series to get a bye.

I don’t know, the Olympic crowd and tv audience seemed to like Tessa and Scott’s unconventional choice. They probably would have liked P/C’s too if they weren’t distracted by the wardrobe malfunction.

I think they all liked P/C's programs just fine. They had lots of cheering/support on their behalf, from what I could see. I just simply think V/M's programs were enjoyed more.

Tessa once said for the OG, you can be the one of the best and prepared as much as possible, but the stars still have to align, and IMHO, that is what happened.

Are those recorded though? I was thinking of what would be taped for international fans of the Canuck Danes... as I am now calling them... :shuffle:

Well we have CTV record and televise Nationals so international fans can watch later from youtube or other streaming sites.

I have never actually followed sectionals to know what is done there... outside of fan cams. ◇totally ignorant on it◇
