What are some of the most memorable Olympic moments for you?

For me:

Most emotional- Joannie Rochette winning bronze just two days after losing her mother. I can't watch that even now without tearing up. Lu Chen's comeback in 1998.

Most dramatic/determined- Zhang/Zhang's performance after that terrible fall on the 4s. Stojko's silver medal performance in 1998

Biggest upset- Sarah Hughes winning gold in 2002. Sotnikova winning gold in 2014.

Biggest comeback: Mao Asada in 2014

Bolero!
Virtue/Moir winning gold

Torvill & Dean in 84. I had not seen them before (there was lots of coverage of them and the Bolero program leading up to the Olympics, but i hadn't seen the program "live" and in full until then) and had never really liked Dance. They blew me away.

Kurt apologizing in 1994. So heartbreaking. When he commentated in Sochi, you could hear his empathy for Mao. He knew all too well how she felt.

Winter will be remembered as a classic.

2010 Vancouver- nothing can top those Olympics for me. Shen and Zhao finally getting their much deserved OGM was the highlight.

Very close was Yuna's performances which was amazing considering the extreme pressure she was under.

LOL, that was exactly the reaction of my figure-skating-fanatic friend and me. Those two results made the Vancouver Games worth it all.

The first bunch of posts in this thread made me realize that there are more Canadian posters on this board than I thought.

Vancouver will never be topped! Seeing S/Z finally get their OGM a special moment. The showdown in Ice Dance. I'd be just as happy if D/W won. The women were great. Kim Yu-Na making history under all the pressure. Mao landing three triple Axels. Joannie's courage. Lysaczek upsetting Plushenko.

Joannie Rochette in 2010 and Mao Asada in 2014. A lot of great Olympic moments are about achieving success in sport; these two transcended that. I can't fathom how Mao was able to skate her FS like that, or how Joannie was able to skate at all.

Oh yes, it was heartbroken !
And Michelle Kwan in 1998, in tears : "I skated my best, but my best wasn't good enough".

Another very sad/shocking moment : Carolina Kostner 2006 SP, after her 1st fall, we can hear the crowd chearing for her. It was very touching, intense, a very beautiful moment of sport.

No mention yet of my favorite: Shizuka Arakawa. That glorious Ina Bauer! Musicality and costuming. Squeaky clean jumps. And that spiral sequence where she's holding her leg up by her ear and then lets go and the leg stays in exactly the same place!! Still wow.

The reaction of both Midori Ito and Debi Thomas after the 1988 Olympic free skates (as well as for the free skates themselves albeit for very different reasons).

Klimova & Ponomarenko's reaction in the K&C area (Albertville) when the first set of marks come up (they looked dismayed) and then you can see extreme relief and then tears of joy when the second set of marks are screened.

I agree with Arakawa's spiral from the 2006 Olympics. That was absolutely glorious.

Remembering moments of Canadians doesn't mean that posters are Canadian (though I am).

For me, a highlight was the two silver medals that Elvis Stojko got. My wife and I both appreciate the qualities he possesses in men's skating, so it was nice to be on the same page with her unlike all the times we got in arguments about who was better between the top American pairs teams.

We also both enjoyed the great rivalry between Evan L. and Plushenko!

Bauil OGM in 1994 Lillehammer I was not a fan of Nancy Kerrigan's skating, but how the judges put Bauil's two-footed, no combination, mostly static posing free skate ahead on any level is still incomprehensible to me. A sad day for skating.
