What are some of the most memorable Olympic moments for you?

For me:

Most emotional- Joannie Rochette winning bronze just two days after losing her mother. I can't watch that even now without tearing up. Lu Chen's comeback in 1998.

Most dramatic/determined- Zhang/Zhang's performance after that terrible fall on the 4s. Stojko's silver medal performance in 1998

Biggest upset- Sarah Hughes winning gold in 2002. Sotnikova winning gold in 2014.

Biggest comeback: Mao Asada in 2014

Bolero!
Virtue/Moir winning gold

Torvill & Dean in 84. I had not seen them before (there was lots of coverage of them and the Bolero program leading up to the Olympics, but i hadn't seen the program "live" and in full until then) and had never really liked Dance. They blew me away.

I still love watching Liz Manley's 88 LP on youtube. Such an amazing moment.
Memorable in a sad way - Kurt Browning apologizing in 1994
Fusar-Poli/Margaglio 2006 epic stare down
2002 "Winter"

I don't think anyone will ever forget 1994 ladies or 2002 pairs

Kurt apologizing in 1994. So heartbreaking. When he commentated in Sochi, you could hear his empathy for Mao. He knew all too well how she felt.

Winter will be remembered as a classic.

Liz Manley’s silver in ‘88.
Joannie’s heartbreak and bronze in 2010.
Shen and Zhou’s gold in 2010.
All those Canadian mens’ silver and bronze and never golds. Sigh.

It's Zhao, not Zhou ;)

Joannie was so amazing. I still cry.

I think the first Canadian man to win an OGM will be an upset victory

- Virtue/Moir winning gold and crowds singing Canadian anthem with them.
- Joanne Rochette emotional win.
- Toyna’s skate/lace problems and poor Josee had to skate when it wasn’t her turn
- Canadian/Russia pairs sharing gold.
- G&G winning gold

Carolina Kostner, Ave Maria! S-L-A-Y!

Tara Lipinski, The Rainbow

And even to some degree, Sarah Hughes Free skate. I like very much something that was unexpected (2 triple/triple for those days)

Lulu's emotional comeback skates that landed her on the podium again! :respec:

Yagudin's Winter SP

Michelle's bittersweet "Fields of God" exhibition in Salt Lake City.

G & G's Reverie exhibition at the 1994 Olympics

Mao's epic and redemptive free skate in Sochi

2010 Vancouver- nothing can top those Olympics for me. Shen and Zhao finally getting their much deserved OGM was the highlight.

Very close was Yuna's performances which was amazing considering the extreme pressure she was under.

LOL, that was exactly the reaction of my figure-skating-fanatic friend and me. Those two results made the Vancouver Games worth it all.

The first bunch of posts in this thread made me realize that there are more Canadian posters on this board than I thought.

And some of us even state flat out how predictably Canadian we are....:shuffle:

Brian Boitano's triumphant reaction when he finished his LP in 1988.

Brian Orser's disappointment on the podium; an apologetic nod to the fans in Calgary

Midori Ito landing the triple axel in her LP, late in the program, after falling on the first one. This would become the first triple axel landed by a lady in the Olympics.

Paul Wylie's reaction when he found out that he had won the silver medal in 92

Seeing Berezhnaya-Sikharulidze's perfect SP skate to Lady Caliph, live in Salt Lake City

Plushenko's SP skate in the team event in 2014

Julia Lipnitskaya's LP skate to Schindler's list in the team event in 2014

Pairs competition in 1994: G&G vs M&D, both were great!

Grishchuk-Platov's FD in 1998

Klimova-Ponomarenko's FD to Bach in 1992

Totmianina-Marinin's LP in 2006, after going through the horrific fall early in the season. Great comeback!

Vancouver will never be topped! Seeing S/Z finally get their OGM a special moment. The showdown in Ice Dance. I'd be just as happy if D/W won. The women were great. Kim Yu-Na making history under all the pressure. Mao landing three triple Axels. Joannie's courage. Lysaczek upsetting Plushenko.

Plushenko's WD during the warm up. What a drama!
Oxana Baiul SP and EX 1994

Bolero is the one program that entered general culture. I was born years later and was still blown away by that program.

Mao LP in Sochi, that was beyond.
Yuna in 2010.
I'll never forget Zhang/Zhang and their Torino LP and how she fell on the quad Throw.
Joannie :( Mental toughness level 100000.
Davis/White OD and V/M FD from 2010.

Oh yes, it was heartbroken !
And Michelle Kwan in 1998, in tears : "I skated my best, but my best wasn't good enough".

Another very sad/shocking moment : Carolina Kostner 2006 SP, after her 1st fall, we can hear the crowd chearing for her. It was very touching, intense, a very beautiful moment of sport.

The reaction of both Midori Ito and Debi Thomas after the 1988 Olympic free skates (as well as for the free skates themselves albeit for very different reasons).

Klimova & Ponomarenko's reaction in the K&C area (Albertville) when the first set of marks come up (they looked dismayed) and then you can see extreme relief and then tears of joy when the second set of marks are screened.

I agree with Arakawa's spiral from the 2006 Olympics. That was absolutely glorious.

Yuna Kim's 2010 Olympic LP performance.

For me, a highlight was the two silver medals that Elvis Stojko got. My wife and I both appreciate the qualities he possesses in men's skating, so it was nice to be on the same page with her unlike all the times we got in arguments about who was better between the top American pairs teams.

We also both enjoyed the great rivalry between Evan L. and Plushenko!

Bauil OGM in 1994 Lillehammer:confused: I was not a fan of Nancy Kerrigan's skating, but how the judges put Bauil's two-footed, no combination, mostly static posing free skate ahead on any level is still incomprehensible to me. A sad day for skating.
