Ashley Wagner Cheer Thread #3: The Subject of Tonight's Lecture...

I think it’s that she was getting back on the ice to start training for nationals today.

I definitely don’t think it’s a coaching change or new programs. She doesn’t have enough time for that.

I just don't understand why people would think she is changing a program. This is someone who is using her FS to the same program for the third time because she says she has new problems in learning new choreography.

I’m guessing her ankle infection is resolving. Good luck Ashley!
She was back on the ice for the first time today after letting it heal, from her instagram story last night!

I am a little concerned she will go to the Olympics with a FS that she has never done in front of international judges. Best of luck to her!
At this point I'm more concerned with the fact that she's going to be competing the program for first time at nationals in an olympic year, when the pressures on and none of the US women have really distinguished themselves this fall. Unlike in 2014 Ashley really needs to be on the podium to be named to the team.

That said, I think it's a smart decision. We could see there was a spark that was missing in the FS this season and I'm so excited to see the program!

It’s a good move for her - between her tech difficulties and two recycled programs her skating totally lost its spark. Can’t wait to see it.

No complaints from me since I really wanted to see that program. I just hope she has enough time to relearn the choreography before Nationals. Ashley did say once that she does her best work in panic mode, so maybe the “panic” of training a “new” program right before nationals will work wonders for her again.

^^^ Wrong thread/subforum, @topaz? ;)

That's not the reason she gave for switching programs: http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2017/09/20/ashley-wagner-moulin-rouge-la-la-land-free-skate/

ETA after Ashley's latest announcement tonight: Of course, skaters are allowed to change their minds about program music at any time ... ;)

IIRC Ashley was having trouble getting the choreography down
The concussions definitely rewired my brain in the way that I process information. My short-term memory is not that incredible; talking to me is a little bit like talking to Dory from "Finding Nemo" [laughing]. It's really affected me in the way that I learn programs because you have to memorize this choreography and the choreography is very intricate. So for me, retraining my brain to be able to learn choreography and be able to remember it, that's probably my biggest challenge.
.

Then Raf put on MR, and it felt like an old friend (which it was).

He’s the real winner here.

The loser? Lisa McKinnon for having another stunningly beautiful dress of hers abandoned due to program change. I really liked the new MR dress.

Although I suppose Lisa Mc is also a winner because I assume she will make the La La Land dress.

ETA I love the new MR dress. It was, IMHO, the best of three.
