Maybe Hurtado and Khaliavin could go to Zahorski/Guerreiro's new coaches, because they certainly benefited from the change.

Had Smart/Diaz been announced as a new partnership at the time Sara was giving interviews stating that any new partner had to be willing to train in Montreal? I think that once S/D teamed up and decided to stay in Montreal, Sara's thinking changed. She said in an interview with Inside Skating in March that she wanted a fresh start, another point of view, and she felt that the coaches in Moscow believed in her. It's possible that Kirill refused to train with anyone but Zhulin or refused to move from Moscow, but given that they began training together without a release from Russia for Kirill and no certainty that he would be released, my guess is that it didn't make sense to them for Kirill to move. And by the time he WAS released, it would have disrupted season preparations and created a new set of hassles. Regardless, their first season together was very successful - winning Spanish Nationals and going to Euros (and qualifying for Worlds under FEDH's standards, only for FEDH to snatch it away from them under realllly questionable "math").I don't understand : when Hurtado and Diaz split, Sara said that her new partner must agree to come to Montreal to train.
I don't think Gadbois would have refused them at all... right ? I know she still very much get along with Adria (the partnership wasn't working though) but maybe it would have been too weird to have them both in the rink... I mean Gadbois already has 2 out 3 Spanish teams.
Technically, they are better than Smart/Diaz but it doesn't show. And you can see that the environment in Montreal just works so much for them. If it had to be decided now, S/D would have the Spanish spot for sure.
I wonder if Stepanova/Bukin can play spoiler in France, finish in the top 3, and throw a monkey wrench in the GP qualifications. It would be shocking, but there's already been a few shocking Russian dance results so far this season.
Last year, Ilinykh/Zhiganshin received higher PCS in both SD and FD in France than Hubbell/Donohue and Gilles/Poirier. It seemed like they were set up by the judges to win silver, but I/Z`s mistakes in the FD prevented that. So, I do think there is a possibility for S/B to end up on the podium, but it`s going to to be difficult. It ain't gonna happen as it's not Russia*

I wouldn't be surprised if they do that in the SD, it could be a 1-point difference if, let's say, C/B or WeaPo don't get their levels and S/B compensate PCS by getting theirs. That is for now highely unlikely but who knows.
I also don't think we will see WeaPo get the same scores as they got in SCI (but I could be very much wrong).
The panel might be crucial for G/F against S/B and WeaPo against C/B.
I know you didn’t! The medals can be seen as deserved. I think that the lack of any real success - the peak is a gp silver! For Russia! In Russia! - Indicates a lack of fixing or even care from Russia about ice dance. to people like Carol lane however who don’t believe any Russian teams are talented or deserve any medals including silver and bronze are results of fixing! Even 4th place no medal for s/k is fixing? Why fix a 4th place? You quoted me, but I didn't say the results were fixed. Shocking results and fixing results are not the same thing. Sometimes teams improve, or teams stagnate, or a favored team commits a huge error, etc.
I can't believe I missed that. This was the 3 teams rivalry from the 2014-2015 season !Funny that the top 3 going into this GP were all on the GPF podium in 2014-15.
It's complicated, when they have just paired up Zhulin didn't want to lose Kirill and potentially strong European team as he has already lost Alisa/Alper and Nasarova/Nikitin that year. Also there were some rumors that Kirill had or still has a contract with the owners of the rink and/or Zhulin and couldn't have left Moscow even if he wanted to do it.Yup. He won't leave Russia.
But Zhulin already is bored of them, like he does with all his teams.
IMO they need to find a coach that would make them their number 1 priority, but IMO it's already too late this season to make a difference.
I can't believe I missed that. This was the 3 teams rivalry from the 2014-2015 season !That got me suddenly so excited for the weekend haha. I thought this was an amazing season by the way, since it was time for new teams to prove themselves post-Sochi. It's incredible what happened in 3 years...

French GP :
TC : Christine Hurth, France
TS : Marie Bowness, Canada
ATS : Francesca Fermi, Italy
We got a French TC last week, we get a Canadian TS for this one. So not going to advance anything, and since last week the French TC did a good job (even if he's not the one to decides levels but still), I'm okay with this too. And I hope same fairness between WeaPo and Chock/Bates.
EDIT : I think Marie Bowness is notoriously "tougher" though or not as lenient as others. I don't think I've ever seen her in competition where full on level4s are given, V/M included (with data from last year and this year). Correct me if I'm wrong !
I don't think so... now that's something I'd love to know.Is it ever reported anywhere how many times a TC gets involved in the marks?
I agree that having Bowness as the TC isn't usually an advantage for Canadian teams. It's good for P/C to get her here because if there is a level issue, they can fix it for later in the season. For WeaPo and C/B, they better be ready to show they deserve the levels they want.
I am interested in Stepanova / Bukin levels the most. Will they hold up or not?
For what it's worth:
-Soucisse & Firus had a personal best this season with Bowness as the caller at Finlandia.
Apparently they almost WD because Kaitlyn had a displaced rib. And then Andrew crashed into the boards in the warmup. https://twitter.com/WeaverPoje/status/931587997430091776So far in the GP series, we can see three tiers in the SD scores for the top 10 teams from last year's worlds (with the exception of W/P's rough skate today). Also, there's a gap between each grouping of scores.
1) >80
2) High 70's (rounded 76-78)
3) Low 70's (rounded 70-74)
Levels have been very important in sifting the performances so far, as expected. Of these teams, only G/P and S/B are not clearing 36 in the SD PCS (they're more than a point shy so far), which to me indicates they're not yet seen as part of that "bronze contender" glut of teams. And obviously, you'd much rather have banked a SD score in that second tier rather than the third tier heading into the FD.
No reason for alarm yet, but C/B haven't reached the high 70's yet this season. H/D are consistently getting there now, and their PCS this season has been close to the other Olympic bronze medal contenders.
...Back to a level 2 on the Rhumba.I am interested in Stepanova / Bukin levels the most. Will they hold up or not?
That's certainly true, but it was a huge improvement in score from their first competition in the season (with an admittedly stingy panel). It isn't all due to TES, they improved on their component marks, too, but it probably sticks out in memory because of how much of a gain it was. They are still a relatively new team that have improved a lot since last season.
They are likely to keep getting PBs if they can skate their programs clean.
...Back to a level 2 on the Rhumba.
There were three level 4's awarded for the pattern here, but they were scattered across the placements--
1) Papadakis/Cizeron, 7) Loboda/Drozd, and 9) Kaliszek/Spodyriev
Which moment / key point they tend to miss / mess up?A thing relatively easy to fix is Madison´s dress, I have no problem with her dress, but the amount of people who hate it can´t be ignored. About the rhumba pattern, what is not supposed Igor is a specialist in that? I mean, he has always been praised for his technical level and getting his teams to achieve good levels.
In China the first one ( 1st and 2nd are choctaws by the 2 partners, if one messes up, 1KP is "N" even if the other is perfect) and now it's the last one, which are the last step after the chassé : they have to be clean and have the deep enough edges.Which moment / key point they tend to miss / mess up?
