Unfortunately, I grew up in the area where Kerri Walsh did, so I'd be good if they just gave Kerri her an OGM for Rio and Tokyo now, skip the media, and be done with it because she already go enough media for high school volleyball alone to reach market saturation.

She lost. The final will be between two Brazilian teams.

:COP: I kind of don't believe you. I've be indoctrinated by Amerikan Mass Media to believe that is not possible ...

Anyway, I am never happy for somebody's lack of success, so thanks for letting me know. I hope she feels OK and performs well.

... :duh: I'm actually shocked and a little sad. Damn.

kerri walsh is the greatest athlete ever. in 2 wks she plays more matches than the NY yankees in a whole season. and NBC shows every one of them.

So maybe Misty understood it was time to let the speedo go. Playing for the bronze is not bad but Kerri won't see it that way. She is one of the most competitive Olympians I've run across in watching years of Olympics. With her I felt that she appreciated winning those golds but her greatest desire was to keep competing and winning. I wonder if that changes now.

Ablyazin says he'll take a rest but isn't retiring.

As we've heard, Mustafina may take two years off before attempting to make the team in Tokyo 2020 (My early guess would be as an UB/BB specialist but who knows!)

I don't think Shang Chunsong is going anywhere yet - I'm guessing she'll go to the National Games next year (which is a big deal for Chinese gymnasts, and I believe pays well) but she has said that she'd like to try for Tokyo - we'll see if the fed lets her ;)

Maria Paseka needs some surgery but wants to continue.

Marcel Nguyen said he plans to compete until at least 2019 Worlds, as they are in Germany, but would also like to try for the next Olympics.

Dragulescu uncertain about Tokyo, but will go on to at least Europeans next year which are in Romania.

Mustafina should make every team from now until the end of time. She's that gorgeous :glamor:

If she retires, who is there to replace her in the Russian team? Is there any glimmer of hope?

Aside from Mustafina and the beautiful Dutch team, gymnastics have not been a pretty sight this year

Not trying, I did. Biles has great difficulty but little to no elegance and grace at all. I can appreciate it but that doesn't mean I have to like it. And I will say I don't like it, as well. It's like comparing Yang Wei and Hiroyuki Tomita. One was a Code whore and the other had superb style and only marginally lower difficulty but didn't get rewarded for the things the sport should be rewarding. Or Nastia vs. Shawn. I can appreciate it but it's ugly.

Ugly is in the eyes of the beholder. :drama:

Congrats to Simone Biles and to all the medalists and competitors in gymnastics! :cheer:

Mustafina is a one-off. Especially in this day and age. We can't expect someone to "replace" her because that would devalue how special she is - and I'm not just talking about scores, results and medals. :glamor:

I get your point though of course. We shall have to keep an eye on Melnikova. She has some good basics. Whether she any kind of "X factor" remains to be seen. She was unfortunately injured in Rio.

But if the last decade is anything to go by, I shall struggle to get even remotely excited about the sport until Tokyo :shuffle:

is there a gymnastics gala or does that not get done anymore. Haha I still remember the americans doing the macarena.

ETA: OK, Final Five is US team? And Zac is Efron? They met him live on facebook?

Facebook Live is like a video conference on Facebook where fans can post questions that will be answered in real time on the video.

If fairness, there have been a few situations in WAG where the alternate ended up being the best performer, too. I'm thinking of Memmel at 2003 Worlds as one example.

It seems like Levya peaks late and is not terribly consistent. If you try to forecast your best bets at a medal using Nationals and Trials as your basis, I can see how it's not Levya. Strategy and outcome are not the same.

I think it's time for a new men's coordinator. Kevin M. just isn't getting the job done. The best the men have done in recent years at the Olympics was when they didn't use the team originally selected (2008, Bhavsar replacing the emperor-with-no-clothes P. Hamm and Artemev replacing M. Hamm as a late at-the-Olympics substitution). Leyva should have been on this team originally, or they should have told him that they were only going to look at numbers so he could have skipped nationals where he competed with a recent injury.

Of the current group of U.S. MAG, I could see all of them retiring. Or most of them staying. The only one I'm hoping will stay is Dalton, who seems to still have unfinished business. I just don't think Mikulak will ever get his head together, Brooks is old and accomplished what he can, Naddour may be satisfied with his Olympic medal, and Leyva has medaled at two Olympics. The latter two, plus Dalton, could still medal at worlds so it's a matter of whether they're ready to move on or not.

American men's woes notwithstanding, this was a fabulous Olympics. Loved seeing Wevers, Steingruber, and Tinkler earn medals! An incredible fight for the men's all-around medals. Dramatic showdown on men's pommel horse in event finals. Superlative display of skills in women's floor finals. Intrigue and excitement in women's uneven bars finals. Dominant victory from the American women's team. I'm kinda sad it's all over.

Yes, there is . It is today and they'll have two shows with the exact same line-up, possibly because tickets sold out quickly. It's at 11am and 3pm local time. I hope it's shown somewhere(BBC will show it). I know the acro people.

NBC knew that Simone had an insane crush on Zach Efron and he had been watching her and the rest of the Final Five compete in Rio. They asked him to fly into Rio to meet the team which he immediately agreed to. Hoda Kotb had them in a holding room and when he walked in, they all freaked. He was going to be working out and hanging out with them. Bob Costas interviewed Simone and Aly last evening. Lots of discussion about eating fries, cupcakes, pizza and burgers(sound familiar for our source focus athletes?). They also discussed whether or not either or both of them would return for the Tokyo Olympics. Both of them are such good kids!
