Anyone watching? There were some good auditions last night. I liked the 15 yo girl who sang Fever the best and hope they can develop her.

Does anyone have an opinion on why Adam would say that the slightly pudgy guy with the high voice was "possibly the most important contestant"? I didn't get it.

I didn't get that either. But I liked several of the ones who got thru. I didn't really care for lavender-hair's voice but her reaction to Gwen was cute. I liked the pudgy guy but I could tell it was a male from the start & I liked the 1st guy who sang "Use Me", the girl who sang "Fever", the little boy with curly hair (hated his song choice though), & the OTT country guy who sang Garth Brooks. I thought the Irish guy was just ok.

I think that Pharrell clinched the win this season when he got Evan tonight. I couldn't believe his unrehearsed rendition of "Overjoyed". It was so beautiful & so unexpected considering that Stevie Wonder songs are notoriously hard to sing.

I also really liked the indie girl who chose Gwen's team & the country guy who chose Adam.

I wonder how the band came up with the music to 'Overjoyed' as if they knew it ahead of time?

BTW, Melanie Martinez from Adam's team in season 3 is being played on college/alternative radio stations.

Unless all contestants are told to prepare a second number in case it is needed?

I've seen about half of the auditions so far. Gwen is annoying me more than ever. Please bring back XTina.

Why do they show people who don't get any chairs to turn and then montage half of Gwen's team?

I liked the guy who sang Chandelier, but I also didn't get why they thought he was important. (Adam still piling on the B.S. and some apparently still falling for it.) I also liked the girl who sang Fever. Those were my two favorites of the ones I saw last night.

Ellie was my favorite from tonight. I hope Gwen doesn't screw it up.

Adam and Emily fighting over this year's blonde teen country singer was silly. She's nothing special, and her only hope of going anywhere is to have Blake backing her. Natalie was actually better, though she didn't choose the right song.

I think Adam will be glad that he got James instead of Emily. But I think James eventually might wish that he had chosen Blake. James moves away from his kids to pursue country music in Nashville and he chooses Adam? Adam won't be stupid enough to let James go because he wants to beat Blake with a country dude, but I don't think Blake would let James go either because James is really good. And Adam has a habit of making really stupid song choices for his team.

I thought Evan sounded better on that second song he sang. And, I'm guessing the producers thought so as well and prompted Pharrell to ask for it.

Superman (Superboy?) will bring the pretty that will make the tween girls vote. He does have some raw talent, but that was a bad song choice. I'll reserve judgment, but I'm guessing that he's one who will go farther than his vocals warrant.

I thought Blake's comment to James that regardless of what happens in the show, he'd get him "in the right hands" after the show was the main reason he should have picked Blake. Based on what I've seen so far, Blake and Usher seem to do the most for their contestants after the show finishes. The others may do it too and it's possible I just haven't seen it. But Adam is right that a country singer might have a better shot on the show not having to battle with other country singers in the next round.

I guess I had a more generous interpretation of Blake's comment -- I didn't think that it was contingent on James choosing to be part of Team Blake. Anyway, I liked James and Evan last night. I was channel switching between DWTS and the Voice, so managed to miss a good portion of both (mainly tried to just miss the DWTS judges and commercials during both shows). With only one hour of overlap last night, at least I didn't miss as much as on Monday night.

I've only seen two singers so far. I thought the 16 years old kid that sang Sam Hunt's "Take Your Time" was mediocre at best. I was very surprised 3 judges turned for him. Also surprised that neither Gwen nor Farrell had heard of that song before; It's a country-ish song, but it does get play on pop radio.

If that was the case, the media would be all over it. So far, crickets.

I would think so too, but I couldn't think of any other reason that they would a) make a big deal over the "I get mistaken for a woman's voice on the phone all the time, I have to correct them", "I'm from a small town and there's no one like me in the area" comments b) no back story..we were all given the blind audition experience and c) you're brave and a very big step/important person stuff.

I'm thinking the story will build each week of the competition.

I'm not sure why the judges made whatever comments they made -- or we think they made (my memory of what each said is not clear). However, Adam Levine seems to think that Jordan Smith is a mythical creature -- which could certainly make him think he was the "most important person ever on the show."
Adam Levine tweeting, "Jordan!!!! Are you a unicorn? Did I just find a unicorn? #VoicePremiere."

Nah. There was a live audience and lots of leaking. If he had said anything to suggest that he was transgender we would have heard. I think that it's just more of The Voice trying to make the show seem really awesome. Adam himself looked like he wasn't even sure if he was going to turn his chair and waited until the last minute to turn. But, Adam is so competitive that he can't stand to lose, so he usually goes all out to make the singer think that he thinks that they are the most amazing thing ever. That's especially true with a four chair turn. I really do think that Jordan has a great voice and that it was just that, and the fact that they thought he was female and did not have the stereotypical look of a pop star, that had them saying such over the top things.

I'm thinking Jordan - is that his name - maybe transgender?

I did not get that impression at all. And it was clear it was a male voice from the start singing a female's song. I thought some of the judges' comments were embarrassing & kind of a put-down. They all skirted around the fact that they thought he is not an attractive person. Otherwise why all the amazement?

Despite that it was "clearly a male voice" to you, I think that for at least a couple of the judges that was not, hence some of their OTT reaction. As for the mismatch between his physical appearance and the quality of his voice, yes there probably was more than a bit of the "Susan Boyle" effect on their part.

I think it was just what they considered "good TV". Every year they have something that Carson announces as shocking that is clearly not. And if I (who is untrained musically) could hear a male voice I really think the judges could. To me the amazement was that any singer male or female could successfully sing that song without hitting bum notes or straining. It's a hard song & IMO that should have been the focus, not how his voice didn't match his looks. The little 15yr old who sang "Fever" also has a voice that doesn't match either her looks or her speaking voice but no one called her a unicorn or the most important contestant they've ever had. I just found the feedback off-putting.

So, everyone but Gwen turned for Amanda, and Gwen was the only one who turned for Jeffrey? I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Gwen was the one who got it right. I wouldn't have turned for Amanda, but Jeffrey was one of my favorites of the night.

ITA. I was surprised she got any chair turns. But Gwen needs to do something with Jeffrey to - I don't know how to put it - but make him cool somehow. He came off as Disney show-ish or cruise ship-ish but I thought he had the best voice of the night.

I also liked Chris (guy who left his wedding reception), & Lyndsey (Lips are Moving), but my favorite of the night was Manny, the 45 yr old. I thought his Whitesnake cover was genius. I wanted to like the duo just because the 2 of them were so likeable but their performance was just meh.

Another vote for Manny. It's so nice to hear and see a polished performance like that.

I liked WV girl and Angel from Montgomery is one of my favorite songs.

Awww, I like funky girl much better than the long-haired guitar player.

Boy, Georgia girl in black sounded so entitled in her piece. I could see a no chair turn coming a mile away.

Manny was my favorite from last night too! :cheer:

I'm enjoying this season so far but I can't remember much about anyone else who's been picked so far. They all have some great talent so the battle rounds should be pretty good. :)

Adam is yet again showing great salesmanship skills. Pharrell is not. Unless Pharrell has diamonds in those montaged singers or picks up some great singers next week, he's going to have to hope that he gets some great steals. Adam clearly has the strongest team with the most depth, followed by Blake and Gwen, with Pharrell having the weakest team.

There are a number of good singers, but nobody who has struck me as really great.

Ouch! She expected no less than a four chair turn and she got nada. That must've hurt her ego.
Egos like that don't bruise that easily. I got the sense that her mother might be the source of the problem.
