Yuzuru Hanyu Cheer Thread

Hanyu would be smart to not mess with either his SP or LP layout. He's unbeatable as he's shown this season when he skates them clean.

Another outstanding and incredible performance by the king. Just needs something decent (for his standards) and a 2nd world title is in the bag with his lead over his biggest rivals, although I am sure he wants and will likely produce something far better than that. Fernandez and Chan each had a fall but otherwise skated well. They would have been well back of Hanyu even had they skated cleanly, but they just widened the gap that much more, and I am happy for that as it takes some pressure off Hanyu (who tends to put pressure on himself being the perfectionist he is).

Beautiful landing of the 3A which deserves +3 all the way: http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Yuzuru Hanyu/ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2016/gEK3A0x-enn

Another article from nbc with press conference quote
http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2016/...re-skating-world-championships-short-program/
“I was pretty nervous today, and just the quality of the nervousness was a little bit different from usual,” Hanyu said through a translator afterward. “It’s hard to explain, but I felt a little unsettling in my mind.
...
When I was skating the short program, I was kind of released from that feeling,” Hanyu said of the nervousness, “and I just skated.”
...
“The reason that I was so emotional at the end today was because I felt kind of different,” said Hanyu, attributing the nervousness at least partly to obstacles faced in pre-Worlds training, including a poor practice Tuesday. “With that circumstance, I was still able to pull out the good performance. That’s why I showed my emotion so strongly.”
...
“I do feel the expectation of my standard has been rising, and I do feel the pressure, actually, but it doesn’t really affect my performance,” Hanyu said. “I want to really enjoy my skating, and I think I was able to show that today.”

Another one, this article mentions the practice incident
https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/...ort-program/e4Y03LlXxBHIxYLZyRQtwO/story.html
Hanyu had been rattled earlier in the day when he nearly collided with Kazakh rival Denis Ten, who got in his way during practice. “It didn’t affect him tonight but I bet you he had to go back and do a lot of soul-searching and release the demons because he was carrying it right in his chest,” said his coach Brian Orser. “He was angry. I was telling him, you need to breathe and let it go. You have to move on. Because he’s too good to let that stuff bother him.”

Sorrento from Golden Skate forum has just translated the Russian commentary for Yuzuru's SP at Boston: https://youtu.be/lj8X-0ePl04
-------
Prior to skate:

Tarasova: And here's Yuzuru Hanyu who we can't stop loving because...
Grishin: This guy is phenomenal, what else can you say?
Tarasova: Yes.
Grishin: This guy realized someone could get to him and went more complexed (he means Yuzu went for higher BV). And when he goes clean and he does is quite often...
Tarasova: He's got the right coach. Because he's coaching him too. (She means Yuzu did not master those skills alone).
Grishin: Well I can go on with saying that Fernandez has got the same coach...

And they both go silent for the skate- bless them!

After the skate:

Grishin: Check, mate, knock-out! It is hard to put in words.
Tarasova: The unique, the most gifted among the talented, I've no words. Only admiration.
Grishin: For the third time during the season Hanyu performs the skate of life.
Tarasova: His climbing to the heights, the acquiring (of skills) went on for so many years, he's been wallowing a lot (she likes that phrase, that those who fall would dirt them out, wallow on the ice, don't take her words to heart) and he did not have enough power to do everything that he could put together (the jumps obviously). And now I am simply grateful to him as a coach who's been working for 50 years that I can feel this happiness witnessing this. Seing there is no limit to human perfection. Throughout the years different athletes proved that.
Grishin (after the repeat of 4S): ...and into the spread eagle.
Tarasova: And he's unique. So strong right now and so lightweight, so thin- everything fits for him to rotate.
Grishin (on 4T3T repeat): I caught myself thinking: look at that, here's his combo, he goes Up! I'm saying that I caught myself thinking during the jump elements being the judges- what I would put for those (jumps)? And I realized that I would stick to GOE +3 for every jump element: including Sal and combo even though he had a tiny mistake at landing from first toeloop (quad) before the triple...
Tarasova: Don't you think they do exactly that? Look!
Grishin: They do. It's impossible not to.
Tarasova: They do it by default. By default. Because it's a pure delight- his extended hip (can you believe she appreciates his stretched out HIP after landing that beautiful 3A? Me too, TAT, me too!)
Grishin (on final poze and monster face by Yuzu): Simply the beast.
Tarasova: As if he is holding the air (on his shoulders).
Grishin: Wild Vinnie Pooh.
Tarasova: He's (skating) as if he was in a vacuum all alone (she means like he's up in the space floating, you know, no gravity attached). Of course.
Grishin: There's nothing left to say.
Tarasova: Amazing! Right.
Grishin: So this guy gets a bit lower than his own WR. Into the confident lead.
Tarasova: Maxim comes next.

Actually I am glad that Yuzuru get silver after Javi again. Reports saying that he killed himself in practice. That was wrong thing to do. He jumped like several dozen of quads and kill his energy. So take this as a lesson Yuzuru, there will be next year.
Oh and Orser said he is injured a bit so he will be back to Japan to rest for 1 month. https://twitter.com/ExaminerSkating/status/716104772986781698

I feel a bit gutted for Yuzuru after a year of incredible WR setting, having to settle for silver at worlds, but that is the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. I have no doubt he will be back strong next year, and will be looking to set the bar even higher for himself, and hopefully he finally gets some good luck at worlds. He is certainly due.

No, but Yuzu was not himself or it wouldnt have happened. He opened the door and Javy was able to leap through it. Patrick wasnt. Huge congrats to Javy, but he didnt beat a Yuzu who was even close to his best. I am very grateful that Javy was a worthy gold medalist though. Thank God!

The amazing thing is even if Chan skated his absolute best it would have been close for silver between him and Hanyu with Hanyu at his worst tonight. He obviously would have beaten him in the LP but the 16 point gap from the SP would make it very tight. Chan will have to fully master the 4 salchow or some new jump if he has any hope of beating a clean Fernandez or even a fairly good Hanyu in the 2 years.

Yuzu looked tired. It's understandable if he overtrained. To be honest, he seems like a skater who peaks at mid-season. I feel like his best performances are usually around the GPF and Nationals? He needs to figure out how to compete at his top level at the end of the season because I so want another, happier gold medal for him at the Olympics!

My heart broke for him but I know he is strong enough to overcome this, still a very bittersweet ending for an amazing season. I'm glad hes taking some time off, he needs it. And congrats to Javi, he did an amazing program today.

Honestly what pains me the most is that Yuzuru himself tried hard not to cry. I know he practiced like HELL. He threw quads after quads in practice. The result is that he exhausted himself. I feel bad for him but this is a lesson he MUST learn. He has to clear his mind and relax.

The thing is he set records after records and people, and most of all, Yuzuru himself expect him to repeat it at Boston. I think people have taken Yuzuru for granted, he is just 21 and he is also human. He is not alien, he can get frustrated and he make mistakes, not to mention all the top skater can bomb at any given day.

The pressure on Yuzuru is not going to go away. So the only thing he can do is try to cope up with it and strengthen his mind. I believe he can do it.

Well on another hand, good thing is that team Japan gets 3 spots back.

I knew as soon as I saw that last practice report where he reeled off like 10 quads after his FS runthrough. I just knew he wouldn't skate well. :( Reminded me of Liz Manley at '87 Worlds in Cincinnati where she left it all on the practice ice where she'd blown everyone right out of the water and then totally bombed the LP. Hanyu didn't bomb but this will still be devastating for him. :(

Yeap I also had the same feeling when I saw Yuzuru jumped so many quads after quads in practice. In the end he messed up in competition. I am so sad but this is a lesson he must learn. He is still young after all. When I was 21 I suffered huge depression and stayed at home for like 1 year. With Yuzuru, I think 1 month is enough to recover. lol

On a brighter side, only Yuzuru can make a silver at WC seems like a disaster. And he said he will beat Javi next time: https://twitter.com/TV4Sport/status/716112577730772992
That's my boy.

Well, according to what Orser said for Japanese media, Hanyu is having hard time so far :( Hope he will get up mentally

I hope he won't take years to regain his mental state like me... :fragile: Well hopefully over the summer will be enough.

Not only quad loop, but 4 quads in Lp.

Wow, I hope he isn't overextending himself. Then again Boyang whose jumping technique is nowhere near Hanyu's right now, who looks very slight, and is very young, is doing that and not getting injured, so I am sure with smart training and pacing (which I am sure he will get under Orser as long as Orser calms him down a bit at times, hehe) he should be fine. My only worry with the quad loop is the loop jump is the hardest on the hips. Tara basically wrecked her hip doing triple loop-triple loop for years, and had no idea this was happening.

Well Yuzuru will think of a way. For now he needs rest and I hope he will stay away from the media as much as possible.
