What Would You Do If Your Annual Income Was Multiplied By 184?

Sorry, this question only applies to men. Ladies, please click on the back button of your screen. It's at the top left of your monitor, sweetheart. No...that's the right, love...

Only two women made the list — Linda Hasenfratz, of Linamar Corp., who was compensated a total of $10.1 million, and Dawn Farrell, of TransAlta Corp., who earned $4.5 million.

(The list being the top 100 of CEO's total earnings.)

Let's put it this way - I do know a CEO of a company who develops some medical equipment (forgot the details, too hard to keep track since he likes to become CEO of companies who are in the red and help build them back up and then move on to the next challenge). I don't know what he earns but I think it's in the 6-figure range and I certainly don't want his job. Frequent trips to Israel (company is based in Silicon Valley, headquarters is in Israel) and there are days when he has to be in the office by 7 the latest for video conferences due to the time difference. There are other trips he has to make as well and it's rare that he can accompany wife and daughter back to the East to see family and friends.
I certainly don't want his job or his hours, but, and that's a very big bug, I think nothing warrants the salaries mentioned above, at least not if it's 184 times as much as the average workers. No one's work is worth 184 times as much as an average workers! That is way too unproportional.

Ah, thank you for reminding me about these talented people, and reviewing information about their lives and what steps they took to become successful… Maybe I can learn something….. :D

Linda Hasenfratz/Linamar, a daughter of Hungarian refugees escaping Soviet invasion……

"Linamar was founded by my father, Frank Hasenfratz, in 1966. My father is Hungarian by birth, as is my mother, although they met here in Canada. My mother left Hungary when she was a child and my father left when he was an adult, subsequent to the failure of the Hungarian Revolution. He was in the Hungarian Revolution. Obviously, things didn't work out very well for the revolutionaries, so he left and spent some time in Italy and a little bit in France and made his way to Canada. He is a machinist by trade. When he came to Canada, he worked as a machinist for a period of time and then decided to embark in business for himself. That's when he founded Linamar. Linamar is named after my sister Nancy, my mother Margaret and myself. He started it in the basement of our home 41 years ago and today we're a $2.3-billion company."

…. And she as per media opinion “continues to prove she belongs at the top”

I just love it when a garage or a basement business can result in 2-3 billions…. :D
Isn’t Canada and USA great for poor refugees…… and does one has to be a beaten down refugee to see the opportunities?

ITA.

And I don't really understand how a person could want obscene (IMO) wealth such that they can buy multi-million dollar palatial homes. That amount of wealth has to managed, and those kinds of homes have to be maintained and staffed.

I guess it's the 'status' thing, which I've never really participated in.

OTOH, given that the world is governed by a capitalist economy, I don't mind people who make major contributions to society (i.e. a pioneer medical treatment, a new gadget that arguable makes life easier or better) getting rewarded for it. For example I don't really resent Bill Gates' wealth because he did transform the world with the PC and SFAIK, is known for his largesse.

Especially given that the work of the poor is needed for the rich to do their jobs and enjoy their lifestyles.

Janitors have to clean the buildings where multi-million dollars deals are made. Cleaning services clean the homes of the wealthy. Someone needs to be working the night shift for minimum wage at 7-11 should you need to buy cigarettes or something else at 3 a.m. And daycares and nannies take care of the children of the wealthy, for a fraction of what the wealthy earn.

To add insult to injury, so many of the poor can't get beyond living paycheck to paycheck, and never do advance in terms of financial/social status.

So ya, wages x184 is far too disproportional.

I've heard of CEOs earning $9000 per hour. IMO, no one is worth that much.
