Catching up on both CNN and Fox News…showing demaged buildings in Tel Aviv. Talking to US tour groups in Jerusalem, who’ve seen missles from their hotel balconies. Very scary. My thoughts and prayers are heightened. 🙏
That is very scary. This means they have attacked Tel Aviv? Earlier reports sounded like it was safe. This is very worrisome.

No. Sporadic bombs that are taken out by the Iron Dome defense system, but alarms send people to shelters and safe rooms. TA is quite close to Gaza and within missle range but there’s no big attack.

Right after I posted that I went in the shower and large siren went off followed by big booms (I decided not to die with shampoo in my hair and finished my shower.) At least one landed on Route 1, the major route between Jlem and TA. Might have been targeting our major hospital in Ein Kerem. Major damage in Ashdod and Ashkelon close to Gaza. So safety is relative.

I have hit my limit of what I can watch on TV, and the interview with the young woman who found out her grandmother had been murdered because the terrorist who murdered her filmed it and uploaded it to her grandmother's FB is it. This is evil in a way I can't understand.

The grandmother looked like the sweetest lady, too.

My husband & my Russian Orthodox Church in our old home in Washington DC has a pilgrimage group in Jerusalem who are staying put in their hotel in Jerusalem until they can find an airport/flight out. This is affecting so many lives, in all levels. I cannot concentrate on my NYCB ballets…how? It’s affecting NYC also. Yesterday I passed through demonstrations for both sides in the Times Square area.

This is just evil. Glad to hear all Israeli FSUers are ok. Stay safe everyone.

Yes even I am getting a little touchy with my family telling me to come home. First of all, I have two homes. Second, at the end of the holidays, flights are already booked solid and some are cancelled. Third, my husband isn’t going to desert his kids anymore than I would mine in this situation and just how would I feel back in DC worrying about them.

Sigh. I appreciate the sentiment but people need to stop and think.

No matter how badly the intelligence, army or whoever screwed up, he was in charge for the last 16? years, and this attack came on his watch and in many ways thanks to his policies.
Maybe I’m just a naive Jewish-American, and the question is being asked over and over as to how did intelligence get caught so off-guard. Didn’t they expect something on the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur war? Stay safe all you FSUers in Israel.

I find that shocking too. I'm sure there will be a lot of soul searching among the intelligence services after this. One thing about those agencies----they have long memories. All of those men filmed celebrating after returning to Gaza-- They are already dead. They simply don't know it yet.

I understand, it was considered Hammas is better off ruling over Gaza than escalating the tension. But no one asks these questions right now, and quite rightly so. There will be more than enough time for guillotines after it's over.

There is a synagogue across the road from my night job and the morning after the attack there was a police car parked out front.

There was also spontaneous protests in support of Hamas across the Greater Toronto Area as well as elsewhere in Canada the morning after. One reporter called one protests a celebration because of the dancing and upbeat mood. VERY scary and depressing at the same time.

Yes, security has been increased at synagogues and Jewish institutions across the U.S. as well.

I'm seeing several reports that Israel has retaken control of all the border towns that Hamas infiltrated. Fighting continues inside Israel though, and IDF soldiers are being sent into Gaza. Prayers for the safety of the IDF soldiers and all civilians.

Just saw an article in the Daily mail. I moved my post to the PI forum.

There are some Israel solidarity rallies and gatherings being planned in several cities. The ones I'm aware of:

Boston - tomorrow/Monday at noon, Boston Common
Miami - Tuesday, 6 pm, Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial
Wash, DC - prayer vigil at Adas Israel Congregation (Quebec St, near Cleveland Park Metro), Tuesday, 7 pm, it will also be livestreamed here: https://www.adasisrael.org/vigil-for-israel

(I didn't watch the news tonight but I'm reading that there were quite a few pro-Hamas rallies today. Sickening but unfortunately not surprising.)
We got one in Cambridge this afternoon…… I am not surprised since there are a few fruits and nuts in that town

Apparently Netanyahu has told Biden that he is going to move into Gaza according to Fox

I imagine this more to destroy the infrastructure that the terrorists have built, including the maze of tunnels and missile launching sites rather than to try and wipe out Hamas.

Those people are evil. I won't feel any sympathy for Hamas if they are completely destroyed (sadly some innocent people on their side may die).

My Israeli tour guide lives in Ashkelon. He’s already posted on Facebook once that he’s okay but I need to check on him again.

That is literally one of the most evil, or perhaps the most evil, things I’ve ever heard. It boggles my mind to think of the detachment and hatred that would allow someone to do something like that. By detachment I mean detached from the idea that the innocent grandmother is even a person.
Sigh. I appreciate the sentiment but people need to stop and think.
They are stopping and thinking about you and your safety only, I assume. That would be my first reaction to say to a friend in this situation too...

Residents of towns along the Lebanon border have been ordered into shelters, there’s some military activity there. Another rocket barrage towards Jerusalem landed two bombs, one to the south in a WB settlement and one to the west.

I went for a short drive to clear my head and the city is very empty, lots of closed businesses. Many restaurants might be closed because their owners are exhausted after the holiday rush, though.
