I hope that this is the right thread to ask what happens to Lucas Broussard. I saw him at Skate America (2024) but I don't see him on the list to compete at Nationals. Any news anyone can share would be greatly appreciated.
I'm afraid he's out the rest of the season with a fractured pelvis. https://www.instagram.com/p/DCgEfBDxE8A/
Lucas B. wrote "fractured" in his post back in November (he had been scheduled to compete at CS Warsaw Cup after Skate America) - fingers crossed that my hearsay info that it was a stress fracture is true.

Jason has withdrawn from US Nats

For those who can't access IG, Jason wrote that he has been facing a series of challenges adjusting to an equipment change and has been unable to train and compete at a level he expects of himself. He's working with his team to resolve this and return to competition soon.

You beat me to it - I just saw the post!

Wow.

Like Isabeau, I'm sure he will be named to the Worlds team based on his result from last season, pending monitoring in late February.

ETA - I wonder if there is enough time for Taira Shinohara to be added. It will be a damn shame if he's not able to make it on just 5 days notice.

I have a hard time thinking he will be named to the team with the way he has been skating. Isabeau from what we saw was okay even with the mistakes. Jason was just plain bad. This is coming from a fan of Jason. 😢

Wellllll, I don't disagree with your assessment of how he's been skating not really instilling any confidence in me that he'll be ready in 2 months for Worlds, but I think the USFS will give him another 5 weeks to get his sh*t together. Or not - they may not look too kindly upon the fact that he skated in that show in Lithuania less than 2 weeks ago and then waited until the Monday of Nats to withdraw. Who knows?

Do we know if he landed any jumps in the exhibition?

Does it matter? The point is that he went and skated in a show instead of being in Toronto trying to get the equipment issues straightened out. And he was there for at least a day or two before the show - that's a good 4-5 days of training he missed. It calls into question, IMO, whether or not he was truly intending on competing at Nats after we saw how he was struggling this fall.

I think it matters that he could jump two weeks ago because that would show something positive. If he was just skating around and spinning or falling all over the place it just be another knock against him that he she had withdrawn earlier and he would not be a good choice for worlds. We have had skaters have equipment problems in the past and it has derailed entire seasons.

Jason was skating pretty badly by his standards but still hanging with most of the other contenders (besides Malinin and Torgashev) in terms of his actual international scores. Because of that, I would imagine the decision might come down partially to what kind of performances the other guys put down at nationals. If there are messy performances in the top three, they might want to take a chance on Jason having higher scoring potential if he can get in shape for worlds.

The other thing I’ll throw out there is that I’m not sure he’ll petition if he doesn’t expect to be ready, and I didn’t get the impression from his post that that was a given.

This is potentially a really good opportunity for Jacob Sanchez, IMO, but I have to say… I am going to be rooting so hard for Jimmy Ma this week.

Yeah, I think that if the Top 3 are Malinin, Torgashev & Sanchez then we're looking at what was likely a messy competition from the likes of Ma, Pulkinen, Naumov & Hiwatashi, and it makes it really hard to put any of them on the team.

But... It does give the USFS a chance here, to sort of have an unofficial skate-off at 4CCs, with Jr Worlds as the other factor. We already know Ilia is skipping 4CCs and Jacob will certainly be sent to Jr Worlds, so the USFS could name Torgy & the next two guys to 4CCs, while naming Jason to the Worlds team provisionally. Then, after they see how Sanchez, plus the two-not-named-Torgy who go to 4CCs do at those competitions, they can have Jason withdraw from Worlds & put the best of those three in as alternate.

I think it's interesting that there's nothing in Jason's statement or so far from Jason's team that says if he is seeking a spot on the world team. Isabeau didn't specifically say it in her statement, but the articles on her withdrawal included that she would be seeking a spot on the world team. So right now, we don't actually know Jason's intentions.

Whether he gets blowback, I think it depends on when Brown's equipment -- by which I assume boots and/or blades -- broke down or stopped working. Until someone says something, it may have happened in Lithuania, or he may have been using different equipment there, and had issues with a competition pair on his return. It's also possible that, like for some skaters we've seen, it's not about replacing one pair of skates, but having longer-term skate issues that skaters live with until they're resolved (or not).

This is certainly armchair diagnosis, but the few times he's competed this year, he looked like he was protecting something physically. Whatever it is, I hope he gets everything sorted.

Jason should not be on the Worlds team. I hope he realizes how ridiculous that would be and doesn't even petition. It's not a good look to do poorly on the Grand Prix, skate in shows, withdraw from Nationals, and then ask to be on the World team. Totally different situation than Isabeau IMO - she is the reigning Worlds silver medialist and medaled in her Grand Prix.

I very much hope Andrew, Jimmy, Camden and others crush it at Nationals so it's a clear choice to not send Jason (if he petitions).
