Nope. Just seagulls. At one point there was a baby bird playing on the roof.I am not Catholic, so please forgive my confusion. Are these birds the cardinals everyone keeps mentioning?![]()
10/12 for me!
The Jewish girl got 11. She says smugly.
The ballot is secret but I thought I read that they read the names out loud as they're counting the ballots, and that's what they did in the movie. IIRC.It doesn't take that long to write down a name and deposit the ballot. The ballot is secret, so they don't announce the votes as they go. They just count the votes at the end. There's no reason why it can't be done in the first few hours.
I'm fairly certain they do an out-loud vote count. I'm not sure if the rest of the cardinals are allowed to tally votes as it goes along as portrayed in the movie, though. The ballot is secret but I thought I read that they read the names out loud as they're counting the ballots, and that's what they did in the movie. Only 8 out of 12. But I'm protestant so who cares.Take the NYT Papal Conclave quiz:

It is kind of funny but I really hope they would take plenty of time for prayer and meditation before voting…There is speculation among journalists that the delay in the vote may be due to one of the cardinals going on too long in his prayer or meditation before the vote.![]()
Or, maybe some guy arrived claiming that Pope Francis had secretly appointed him a cardinal and they had to take the time to determine if the guy should be included in the conclave.![]()

Loving ERDO of Hungary…and PIZZABALLA of Jerusalem/Italy!!!URBI et ORBI! Conservative, please!
Please, let this happen. And then let Papa John's come up with some limited time menu item called "pizza balls". We need this sort of irreverence every so often, lol.So….if Pierbattista Pizzaballaends up being elected Pope and he picks “John” as his papal name (I think that would be Pope John XXIV), that makes him “Papa John”, right?

I didn’t realize it was a cardinal praying aloud. Anyway, I assumed they would pray beforehand but continue throughout. It’s not like they say 5 prayers ahead of time and they’re done.I would hope they didn't wait until this afternoon to do that. The report was referring to a particular cardinal who tends to be quite long-winded. In any event, as I understand it from the reporting, it always has been the plan that they would take one vote tonight.
I was thinking that only the Vatican can do pomp & circumstance at the same level as the British, lol. This marching band and the Swiss Guards are pretty cool!![]()
Probably within the next 10-15 minutes. They were saying it's usually 40-45 minutes from the time the white smoke appears to the balcony appearance. How long until we find out who the new pope is?
I love the videos of the crowds.
