The Voice - Spring 2017 (threads merged)

I don't normally watch The Voice, so have minimal history with the coaches and their antics. Like most reality tv, though, I believe most of their banter is made up for the cameras, as each of the coaches are still making $10-15,000,000 (last I heard). I really wish they would instead use some of that $$ to help the top 5-10 singers get started.

While not a country music enthusiast, I actually don't mind that country is disproportionately represented on The Voice. You don't hear much country on American Idol or America's Got Talent. Of course I am biased this season because of Lauren. In the crazy chaos of the world, I am enjoying her more soothing style.

I can't believe Hunter is not in this finale after doing so well on iTunes all season.

I actually forgot Chris Blue's song was an original- it was catchy.

I think Lauren will win.

Loving Jesse and Adam's Lets go Crazy.

I love Dancin in the Streets, but Aliyah/Blake were Zzzzzz.

The original songs haven't been too bad. I'm pleasantly surprised.

I still can't believe that Gwen doesn't have any artists in the finale. :blah: to no Hunter (actually I would have even preferred Brennley to at least one of the finalists).

I actually predicted that Gwen would have 2 in the finale based on 1st live week results. Who would've thought she would end up with none in the finale.

Yep. I think she made a misstep with Brennley's song choices in the semi-finals. That was definitely not the time to change things up for her. :scream: I missed Hunter's U2 cover and heard mixed things, but he definitely didn't have good placement in terms of performance order. I believe both of his performances were in the first order.

I thought Brennley would win the battle of he 15 yr olds, but I didn't like her song choices the last week either.

Chris is definitely the performer of the year.

Good season!

Jennifer Hudson and Miley take Gwen's and Alicia's chairs next year.

Chris has been one of my favorites this season, along with Lauren, of course. What a great end to the show!

WOW... Chris blew the roof off with Rhythm Nation!!! I think Lauren will win overall but Chris definitely was the best performer of the night. What a finish!!

I'm pretty sure Lauren will win, and I'm OK with that, but I would much much prefer that Chris wins. I hope he can escape the black hole that typically swallows Voice contestants.

I can see actually Chris performing on stage with Alicia, and Lauren performing with Blake, and Jessie performing with Adam (as a guitarist, not really a singer). The relationships and respect between these pairs seems to be pretty strong, and all 3 really should have a great career ahead. The only contestant that would not have an ongoing Voice mentor is Aliyah.

I hope Chris wins tonight (I don't like country - what was that screech?) but that duet with Alicia was beyond horrible (mostly her fault). It was his only misstep of the night but he ended on a high note so maybe it won't affect his chances. When the show started last night I made a prediction to myself that Chris would get the pimp spot & sure enough he did. Until last night I thought Lauren would win but now I think it might be Chris. But Lauren has better iTunes sales so who knows?

Blake made bad song choices for both Aliyah & Lauren. Both of his song choices for the duets & Aliyah ending with Signed, Sealed, Delivered were all bad calls IMO. If he has to choose novelty songs can't he find ones more current than 30 years or so? Actually Dancing in the Streets is more like 60 something years old & Tears in my Beer was just silly. At least Lauren had 2 good songs & ended with a great impression.

I'm not a country fan, but I think Lauren has the better voice. She definitely did better on ITunes than Chris. But Chris is the better performer. I'm really happy with this result, though. It's nice to see neither Blake nor Adam win. Plus, Chris probably needs the recording contract more than Lauren does. Blake can help Lauren get a recording contract that probably turns out better for her.

I honestly think Chris won this competition on the finale night. He had his very strongest night exactly when he needed it. Until last night, I was sure Lauren would win; but, after Chris wound up the show with that performance of Rhythm Nation.....I was like ...hmmm, this could be very close. I'm glad Chris won. Lauren will do just fine with Blake in her corner. Great season.

That was a great finale, and cheers to Chris! He really is amazing. I hope all of the contestants get a chance to sign with a good label and continue getting exposure. So cool that the top 4 got a Toyota - that makes coming in 2, 3, or 4 worthwhile.

The odd thing is that Chris sold more copies of his other song than he did of Rhythm Nation. And Lauren sold four or five times as many copies of Deja Vu than Chris sold of Rhythm Nation and twice as many as Chris's other song. She really dominated in terms of sales. But the performance quality of Rhythm Nation really helped get casual votes, IMO. And Alicia's plea helped as well. Blake had two performers, so some of the people who just support Blake might have voted for Aliyah rather than Lauren.

Hopefully Lauren's sales will help her get a recording contract. But there aren't a lot of female country music artists dominating the charts.

I'll bet that Lauren will be opening Blake's show next tour. I believe that is what helped Cassiddee Pope.

For the first time since maybe the first season, not all the eliminated contestants from the live shows participated in the finale and the finalists didn't get to bring back there fave eliminated contestants for a group number.

Wonder why Mark, but not Lilli didn't get to do a duet with a celebrity. Should've been Lilli, but probably her musical genre is not interesting to most of the audience.

Hunter got the short end of the stick. Not to be mean to Gwen, but the other finalists get to do a duet other than their coach. Maybe the Voice couldn't find a celebrity to sing with him?

What a nice surprise that Chris won. I thought Lauren had it in the bag, since she had more songs than Chris that reached the i-Tunes top 10. I guess multiplying by 5 has less of an impact than multiplying by 10 as in the previous years. That is why in previous years, the more songs you had in the i-Tunes top 10, the better chance of winning. Or maybe most of the voters didn't download the songs (like me), so that's why the i-Tunes downloads didn't reflect voting rank.

On the other hand, how did Jesse lose to Aliyah??? Is it b/c he's not cute and perky? I thought voting Aliyah through to the finale was a fluke, but I guess it's not. The audience like cute and perky contestants. They don't care about talent.

Actually, most of the original songs were pretty decent.

I usually buy between 5-10 songs per season. This year I didn't buy anything mostly because the songs that were covers were songs already on my iTunes or songs that I disliked or songs in a genre I dislike. I think the #1 criteria should be songs that people would want to download but they often just choose songs they think show off the voice. They should choose songs that do both IMVHO.

I may buy a few songs from this week. I liked Jesse & Adam on Monday's duet song & Chris & Usher were phenomenal in the finale. And I liked several of the original songs.

I really hope that Chris gets good management, because I can imagine him getting a Grammy in the future. Especially after hearing him sing AND master the choreography in Rhythm Nation, I think he really shines on stage and will go far.

I never really download songs - only audio books - but I guess I'll have to get used to buying music that way. My music collection desperately needs to be refreshed.

I've only ever downloaded a handful of Voice songs from iTunes.

And I do hope that Chris doesn't go into the void of the non-country winners. He could be a STAR.
