The Voice - Spring 2017 (threads merged)

I think the talent pool this year is the weakest it's ever been but a couple of people have surprised me in the battles by being better than I thought they were. So when the herd is cleared out it has a chance of being a good season. That is if the Gwen-and-Blake show doesn't take over. That's a pretty big IF.

Celine was a terrible choice for Gwens team. The "first cut is the deepest shows" that.
Of course, it could be that Celine is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Overall, I was not impressed with the battle rounds. The best performance was Hunter. He surprised me as his audition was mediocre.

WTF with Adam who didn't want to steal Josh b/c he's waiting for a female to steal. As I have repeated myself like a broken record, this show is now more about the coaches strageising to win, instead of finding the one with the 'voice'. It isn't fair for those good singers who are passed over mediocre ones just b/c the good singers do not 'fill the gap' in the coaches team. Who cares if all the good singers are mostly female or male or country singers or r/b singers, etc. Just pick the ones based on their voice. I wonder if the producers told the coaches to diversify their team so the audience doesn't get bored with listening to the same type of singers. The bottom line is the ratings. The producers don't care about finding 'the voice'.

And that was bunch of crap when the coaches said that they shouldn't have put so and so together in the battle rounds. We know you put them together to 1. make more entertaining television 2. eliminate similar type of singers 3. producers told you to do so

Was the final battle team shown the actual final team to perform? I may have misheard, but I think I heard Gwen asking Adam if he had a steal left. Adam said yes, and asked Gwen if this was the last team. So does that mean the final steal was by default b/c there are no contestants left to steal?

I don't know. Most of the show is shown out of taping order. I can't remember which season, but one judge had been "produced" to put a fodder vs. fodder at the end. I suspect they do the real steal opportunities early and the swap-steals in the middle.

I really enjoyed last night's knockouts but I disagreed with 3 out of 6 decisions by the judges.

Alicia: Chris vs Quizz - Chris was the clear winner i.e. he blew Quizz away but I think Gwen wasted her steal. Quizz has a lot of promise but IMO he's not ready.

Adam: Autumn vs Hanna - I didn't love Autumn's song choice but I thought she outsang Hanna & was surprised Adam went with her. But then the coaches rarely go with their steals over their original picks.

Gwen: Hunter vs Johnny Gates - Hunter in a landslide, he was phenomenal.

Blake: Casi vs Felicia - Both were good but I picked Felicia. Two things - her bad song choice & the fact that Blake would never pick her over a country girl.

Adam: Johnny Hayes vs Josh: Bad matchup. If I were Adam I would want to keep both although Josh blew him out of the water. He could win the whole thing. I love rockers!

Alicia: Ashley vs Lilli: This one I didn't get at all. Not only did Lilli out-sing Ashley, she was the one who Alicia made up a song & sang to her during the Blinds. IMO Lilli is another one who could win. I think Alicia was just excited about getting a country girl instead of Blake. Thank goodness Lilli was stolen by Adam, I really like her voice & her style.

I'm underwhelmed. Chris Blue was the standout last night for me. Everyone else, meh.

Brennley was amazing. Everyone else--meh.

I didn't like her in the battles- I would have sent her home. And even though I thought I like Aaliyah better than her, on Tuesday night I would have picked Brennley in the knockout. But I'm glad Aaliyah was stolen. Blake needed fodder for when he has to reduce his team from 5 to 3.

1st knockout I would have picked Dawson over Anatolia. I just can't get past how she & her mother acted on American Idol. Also I thought it was her worst performance so far.

I can't believe they montaged a Knockout pairing (or whatever it's called). I know they montage Blinds and Battle Rounds, but I thought they usually show all the Knockouts.

So far tonight, most of the Knockout pairings have been pretty easy to predict the winner.

Must have been some gawd awful battle. Too bad they can't auf them both and keep the best of the ones they had to say no to.

That last steal was completely anti-climatic & stupid to boot. Alicia passed up several more deserving singers only to "steal" the very last contestant.

Jesse is the only one to blow my socks off last night. He is incredible. I would buy his album.

WTF with Alicia and Gwen wanting to hold on to their lone country singers at the expense of better singers who outperformed them. Good thing their opponents were both stolen. I guess they were hoping to win with a country singer, and beat Blake at his own game, but I don't think so (at least with those singers). Or they want to diversify their team so that votes are not split between similar singers.

Aaliyah and Anatalia are little firecrackers.

I still think Hunter is the best among the 20, but I don't think he will win.

I don't think there is a strong team this season. They are all pretty much the same.

They don't always air the knock-outs in the same order as they actually occurred, so it's quite probable Alicia didn't steal the very last contestant. The editing is a bit monotonous, because NBC always wants to end with a steal, which actually becomes anticlimactic. If you know the last contestant of the night is getting stolen, you really don't care that much which one wins since they are both staying.

I wonder why they decided to bring back the 'comeback contestant' again after an absence last year. Last year they should've had it to bring back Sanchez (the weird piano dude). This year, there's no one I could think of to bring back. I heard this they have to bring back an eliminated knockout contestant from their own team. I wish they could bring any contestant back.

Cassie Joy was okay but I had a hard time understanding her.

Comeback contestant #1 Felicia Templeton singing Defying Gravity. She has a lovely voice and seems like a nice person with a great story, but why is she singing another big ballad when she was eliminated on a similar song?? I feel like I was transported to a pageant. :scream:

Okay, was it me or did Jack Cassidy sound really bad on Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me?

It wasn't you. That WAS really, really bad. Alicia was hard pressed to find something nice to say. Vanessa, OTOH, is amazing. Forget Aliyah. I vote Vanessa.

Vanessa is easily the best of the night so far.

Poor Jack. I think he picked the wrong song. I feel like I've liked him before. Tonight's performance was almost as bad as that girl singing At Last last week. :scream:

Since America agreed with me WTR team Blake, they got it right. :D

Team Alicia has to be Vanessa. Don't care who else goes through as long as she does.

I think this is the weakest season so far. It's largely the contestants, but I'm not sure the coaches made all the right choices in the knockouts and battles. As a West Coaster, I have to say that I think this live voting thing stinks.

On Team Blake, Lauren was my favorite, followed by Aliyah Moulden and Casie Joy. Tsoul didn't do much for me. I preferred Casi Joy tonight.

I think that, based on tonight's performances, Chris was clearly going through for Team Alicia. I don't think either Stephanie or Vanessa has the best voice, but there's something interesting and compelling about them as performers. This was my favorite performance from Stephanie so far. Ashley is a really good singer, but she's like a number of previous singers they've had on the show. Maybe that's why Alicia passed on her. Anatalia is a firecracker with a really good voice, but that song choice and arrangement were not good. She wasn't ready for the show. I have no idea how Jack Cassidy got to this point. He wasn't good tonight and he hasn't been good in past shows. He should have been gone after the first round.

I agree that this is the weakest season and Blake & Alicia have weaker teams than Adam & Gwen. On Blake's I really only like Aliyah M. Up to this point I had liked TSoule but he let me down last night. I guess Lauren is good for a country singer (not my thing) but compared to Blake's usual team she falls short. But I wouldn't be surprised if Blake won this year - with Aliyah. She's something special.

Chris has been one of my favs but I had to FF thru his screeching last night. It wasn't pleasant. And last night was the 1st time I've really liked Vanessa but she needs to quit copying Janell Monae & get rid of that stupid hat. But if any of Alicia's team is in the final 4 I think it will be Vanessa. Stephanie has a compelling backstory but I find her middle-of-the-road.

My predictions for tonight: on Adam's team Jesse, Joss, & Lilly will advance. On Gwen's it will be Troy, Brennley, & either Quizz or Hunter.
