The Shoma Uno fan thread - Go for número UNO!

During an interview right after FS Shoma revealed he sprained his right ankle when he was warming up on the floor during a morning official practice for SP. On the day he went to a doctor to take exams including MRI. His doctor said there will be pains but it won't aggravates too badly even if he skates. His trainer did his best to get his ankle recovered during the day between SP and FS, and he felt better today so he decided to participate in FS.

Anyways congrats to Shoma for his third National title in a row! Wish a quick and complete recovery for him!

I really hope his right ankle isn't bothering him too much anymore... Seems like he has dropped the 4F from his SP layout but he intends to do it in his FS; see this clip of him doing his FS run-through, opening with what looks like a popped 4F.

Best of luck Shoma, get well soon! I sprained my ankle three weeks ago, I've sprained the other one some years ago, and it can take quite a while to get back to normal. And once you've sprained it it's so easy to do it again, especially shortly after. It sounds like that's what Shoma has been doing. I've mostly been able to skate on my injured ankle, also thanks to painkillers, but my skating friend who's a doctor says that in a stiff skate your foot is almost like in a cast, so you should be fine. Hope Shoma will be too! Fingers crossed!
 
Woohoo! Congrats to Shoma for his FIRST TITLE at ISU's championship! FINALLY!! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

Looked he's used to skating while injured. That's the experience he's earned. But I really wish he'll take a good rest for recovering from his ankle sprain this time. Mihoko, I count on you. (・人・）
 
Yes, Rika is still supposed to go to Challenge Cup at this point. But she might change her mind. Didn't she get enough ISU points to skate in the final flight in SP at Worlds by winning 4CC? If so, she doesn't need to go to another ISU competition. We'll see.

Let's see, after 4CC ladies, the WS for Japanese top ladies are updated as follow:

4. Kaori Sakamoto 3711pts
5. Mai Mihara 3672 pts (won't be at WC)
6. Wakaba Higuchi 3596 pts (won't be at WC, but will be at Chllange Cup)
8. Satoko Miyahara 3383 pts (adding 250 from the winning from Bavarian Open, she'll move ahead of Wakaba but still behind Mai)
12. Rika Kihira 3059 pts --> (with another 250 from Challenge Cup, assuming Rika will win CC, it will be safer to guarantee her in the last flight ...to move ahead of Tennell and Tursynbaeva, or else Rika could be at the border line between the final flight or last to the final, depending on who'll skate for Russia)

Thank you for bringing the discussion back to Shoma. It had drifted into Rika and the Japanese Ladies.
 
According to this new article someone around him revealed that he partially tore his ligament in the right ankle at Nats, and since then he went through sprains/breaks-for-recovering repeatedly. :(

I don't think he has reached the best version of himself as a skater yet. I wish he'll take enough time to recover fully. Fingers crossed.

Wow. :( I think it has been unfortunate that for the last few seasons Yuzu has been injured early and taken - quite rightly - the time away from the ice in order to recover as fully as possible and make successful returns to the ice. I do think this has added to the pressure on Shoma and this, added to his warrior-like approach to skating can't be helping these injuries. I hope he is able to get the rest and recovery he clearly needs once this season is over.
 
That’s quite an injury. I have faith that his team will take care of him, but I also hope Shoma knows it’s OK to take some time off from the ice when the occasion calls for it. Especially if he wants to continue skating.
 
I saw four of the eight competitive sessions at the event, and Shoma's long program was by far the highlight for me. I'm so glad to have seen him live at least once. He didn't waste a second of the music or the program. He was so focused and into what he was doing. Hope he is healthy for Worlds.
