I'm going to be honest and say that I didn't like it. It's the one Shibs program I didn't like over the past quadrennium. I think you have to explore different genres, but I was grateful they did that one as an exhibition because I didn't think it showed off their relationship on the ice, their relationship with the audience, or their strengths. I do think they perform quick, sharp movement well; I just did not like that exhibition program.
 
I'm going to be honest too and say I still think their original SL lift in Paradise was better though I get why they changed it because it allowed Alex and Maia to quickly transition into those movements where they were totally hitting the beats leading up to the stationary lift.

Everyone have different tastes but I think the program was very well received by public, I just read positive comments about it. Definitely, it was not seen like any other random exhibition.

I did not like it at first, especially I hated the black costumes, it seemed like a funeral to me, but at 4cc I loved it, and it was great in Worlds 2017 too.

Fair enough, Dobre. I know not everyone liked it. I don’t think I’d ever seen them go for that sort of angsty vibe in a program before, so that was a big part of why I found it so interesting and compelling.

I saw it differently. I call it the "lonely together" or "zombie spinster" program. I think it showed kind of a different aspect of their relationship ---namely the dark and lonely times. Especially in light of Alex's comments regarding being alone and that people didn't return their texts, this program makes a lot of sense to me. Not that every program have to be autobiographical, but I do feel like this tapped into a darker/lonelier side of them.

I agree it showed a coolness to them as well.
 
I still wonder about that line from Alex about people disappearing and texts getting ignored during the hard times.
 
Yeah, I wonder who was doing the ignoring? Friends? Collaborators? Fellow skaters? USFS officials? They’re way too classy to ever tell us and I’m glad they were strong enough to get through it, but I can only imagine how difficult that period must have been for them.

I did not think he was talking about a personal experience :(, people leaving in the difficult moments is super common, I thought he was simply trying to do the point that no matter what, they will be to each other all their lives

About the program Do you remember, when I read the lyrics I kind of invented myself a story about it. I was sure that in some point they were thinking about retirement, especially Alex because he was who looked the most upset with the scoring some years ago :wall:, so I did interpret the lyrics like it talked about skating in that period ¨Do you remember the way it made you feel?¨ (how do figure skating/competing made you feel? remember that figure skating used to be funny/enjoyable for us) ¨Only love could ever hit this hard¨ ( love for skating could hit this hard), and like Maia trying to convince him about continue skating. After analyze again the lyrics, this did not make so much sense like the first time that I read it, but I saw it like that :D. I would like they talk about what interpretation they gave to that program. Seeing this part https://youtu.be/zIX9CJOzj60?t=146 is evident that they were trying to tell a story.

Mine too. I so want them to answer by saying they aren't limited to only doing romantic programs -- that they can do more than that!

You definitely made me interpret this program in a new light. I never looked up the lyrics before or tried to apply a story to the skating. I had trouble understanding the lyrics from the way the guy was singing and just enjoyed the program based on the mood and movement. But with the lyrics now in mind, I can definitely see how this program may be portraying that dark period in their career when they weren’t getting good results and may have been questioning whether they should continue in the sport.

That moment when Alex is sitting on the ice with his head in his hands and Maia is skating around him, the lyrics go, “when you love to your limit, when you gave all you’re given...” it really seems like it’s a low moment for Alex where he thinks he’s given everything he has to give to skating without success and can’t continue anymore, while Maia wants to keep skating but doesn’t know how to change his mind. But then the lyrics go, “will you find out that there ain’t no other love, no other love for you?” and Alex gets up and starts skating with Maia again, showing that he’s remembered his original love for skating and the way it makes him feel is enough, there is no “other love” that he’d rather be pursuing. This program is actually very meaningful and I didn’t even realize it before.

if we hate those questions, just imagine how they feel, the same question over and over and over again. I think I've seen them make faces :rolleyes: when they are asked about it. It must be the same annoyance that Tessa and Scott feel when they are asked if they are more than friends.

the thing is i swear if they were the same gender (brothers or sisters) they wouldn't be asking this question at all. it's just because they are separate genders. now i get that ice dance is risque and all but please. it's not THAT important.

I high recommend listening to the Watch podcast. They spoke a lot about subjects that haven't quite been covered yet in the past million interviews, and they even explained "part 2" of the Trilogy aka "Evolution".

It was a really interesting interview. I liked hearing about how the way they’ve consumed the discourse on tv and movies subconsciously affected the way they approached their programs. The tv series analogy for their trilogy really makes a lot of sense: the super well-received first “season” in Fix You and then maybe a less widely popular second season in Evolution that was needed to set up for and progress to the finale in Paradise. Apparently this particular podcast has influenced a lot of their thought process on the trilogy!

It was very interesting, and it was noticed how they were comfortable and interested in answering the questions because they were different questions, and especially that they were given the necessary time to express everything they wanted to say. The Ringer was the website that had that great article about the Shibs, it is a really cool page.

The Watch interview was wonderful. I did appreciate the different questions. It did feel like a meeting of the minds, which was part of what made it wonderful.

I cannot keep up with all the new Shibs content. This is a bit unreal. They are really battling it out with Adam Rippon for all the interviews. Also, is it me or does anyone feel like the Shibs (and Adam too, actually) is getting more post-Olympic attention then even Meryl and Charlie despite the latter winning OGM? I feel like Meryl and Charlie got most bang for their buck internationally with all the shows and other things.

Maybe it's that Adam and the Shibs are more media savvy for that U.S. audience perhaps?

I don't know about D/W, indeed I started to pay attention to D/W during DWTS, so I am not sure. But it looks really exhausting. Luckily Maia and Alex are used to that kind of busy schedule, definitely, it was a wise decision skip Worlds, I wish they could sleep an entire week, maybe I'm just projecting myself :lol:, they look very happy.
