I just saw a lovely tv commercial for a baby product that we'll all recognize featuring the cutest baby along with daddy. The entire commercial was spoken in Spanish with no translation. None was needed. Thank you, Johnson's, for your courage. iMuchas Gracias!

Former President Jimmy Carter is ok after collapsing from heat exhaustion while building homes in Winnipeg, for Habitat for Humanity. He was taken to the hospital there yesterday and was released today. At age 92 he is building homes for the poor. That's someone to admire. The good news is that he has recovered and released from the hospital.

HAPPY NELSON MANDELA DAY! :)
"What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived.
It is what difference we have made in the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead."

Quarterback Kurt Warner (Arizona Cardinals, St.Louis Rams) was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. He was undradted, played in the Arena Football Leagye, was a back up for Rams, then Cardinals. At one time he was working as a grocery clerk, before the Rams signed him. He became the season MVP and Suoerbowl MVP. He took the Cardinals to their only Super Bowl.

Just goes to show how far perseverance can take you. Congrats to Kurt Warner.

This may not mean anything to most of you, but it meant the world to me yesterday when my AC finally came back after living for one week without it. My home was unbearable in the summer heat of Phoenix. After spending one sleepless night at home I spent three nights in hotels and the next two in Seattle. Then one more night and part of the next day sweating in the heat. Then came my savior- the AC repair tech who had installed the unit six years ago. He did the job for almost half of the quote I had received last week from another company (saving of roughly $1700).

By mid afternoon my home had cooled down to the comfortable level and I fell asleep, probably to make up for all the sleep I had lost. Now I am not dreading coming home after work.

Received a piece of good news today. I received an email from the Scottsdale Artists School that they could offer me a partial scholarship to attend an oil painting workshop there in October. It is a 3-day workshop and it is on a weekend, so I can attend it without missing work.

I have not done a painting in a long time (3-4 years, I think). Their workshops are always on my work days and they are quite expensive. So I applied for a scholarship to attend an oil painting workshop that was on a weekend (they don't have many of those; this is rare). The instructor is the husband of an artist whose classes I had attended 4-5 years ago, and their style is the one I like and was trained in.

I had to send them photos of some of my paintings, resume, a statement, etc. I didn't really expect to receive a full scholarship but I am very happy that they offered me a partial one. I accepted the offer immediately. I am very excited that I can attend a 3-day workshop. Hopefully I will continue to paint more regularly after that. My motivation was missing, and I hope that the workshop will inspire me.

The Chinese government has launched a study into the feasibility of a ban on the sale and manufacture of all diesel and petrol powered vehicles. China is the largest car market with 28 million new cars made in the country last year.

The country's vice minister of industry said it had started "relevant research" but that it had not yet decided when the ban would come into force.

"Those measures will certainly bring profound changes for our car industry's development," Xin Guobin told Xinhua, China's official news agency

China made 28 million cars last year, almost a third of the global total.

Both the UK and France have already announced plans to ban new diesel and petrol vehicles by 2040, as part of efforts to reduce pollution and carbon emissions.

Chinese-owned carmaker Volvo said in July that all its new car models would have an electric motor from 2019.

Geely, Volvo's Chinese owner, aims to sell one million electric cars by 2025.

I've heard that China is also taking the lead in the manufacture of solar panels. Imagine that...Made in China! While America is...

I am proud to say that I have lost 10 pounds in about 24 weeks after joining Weight watchers. I have reached my goal. I was 5 pounds overweight before I joined the program.

Now I have to maintain the weight. That's a bit disappointing because losing weight feels really good. I don't want to lose too much though. It won't be safe if I lose more than 3 pounds now. May be I will gain a few pounds so I can work on losing them and feel good again. :)

The best part was that I got reimbursed by my employer for all three weight watchers sessions (8 weeks each) and I was definitely not starving or feeling deprived.
