Here is what I found on Sara's Wiki page:Which is weird because they trained a long time together and at the same center. They were one of the first couple (if not the first ?) Dubreuil and Lauzon trained. Before Haguenauer joined them if I remember correctly.
Wonder if he's been released yet and when we might see them in international competition.Shira Ichilov (coupled with Laurent Abecassis until Nebelhorn 2021) and Volodymyr Byelikov (last seen in autumn 2020 with Darya Popova) are now a couple skating at Israel National Championships.
I really like Ichilov so I'm glad she has a partner, and I hope he is more committed than the last. Their styles have been very different. ?Fingers crossed that they can make it work.Shira Ichilov (coupled with Laurent Abecassis until Nebelhorn 2021) and Volodymyr Byelikov (last seen in autumn 2020 with Darya Popova) are now a couple skating at Israel National Championships.
No mistranslation this time: Wagret/Souquet-Basiège have split.![]()
According to their instagram posts, both are hoping to find new partners.
They were probably the top team working with Dubreuil and Lauzon around the time of the Sochi Olympics.Which is weird because they trained a long time together and at the same center. Truth. But Hurtado is a DIVA. But then she ran into the biggest diva of them all ZHULIN. So there would be no choice, go big or go home. It's interesting to me because despite their presumed differences about training methods, Diaz and Hurtado seem to have achieved roughly comparable success with their new partners.
Did you mean to say Hurtado?Truth. But Diaz is a DIVA. But then she ran into the biggest diva of them all ZHULIN. So there would be no choice, go big or go home.
Oh you know I did. It's just the Diaz swag playing tricks on my mind.Did you mean to say Hurtado?
I feel like training with Zhulin isn't doing Sara and Kirill much good, TBH.It's interesting to me because despite their presumed differences about training methods, Diaz and Hurtado seem to have achieved roughly comparable success with their new partners.
Sigh. Sara was at her best with the IAM group. I can only dream of how good she would have been now. Zhulin tends to transform his teams into copies of N/K or U/Z, I can hardly find an authenic bone in his body.I feel like training with Zhulin isn't doing Sara and Kirill much good, TBH.
Yeah I feel like he is done. She may choose to find a new partner after this season? To me Kirill looks tired (he is often "wobbly"). He might also be tired of competing ... .
It IS maybe the greatest difficulty in Ice Dance to be in synch with a partner for years: a little miracle imo when it happens!
I agree! I must say though that I like both their programs this year. They have the potential to be great imo.I feel like training with Zhulin isn't doing Sara and Kirill much good, TBH.
I am coming to realise that Zhulin cannot work miracles. If SinKats the team was capable of better he would have served them better.Yes, in my opinion, Hurtado/Khaliavin's programs have been much better than Sinitisina/Katsalapov's during the time they've been training with Zhulin. I think that is attributable to Sara, honestly--from past interviews, it sounds like she has some direction of their programs, as on their Spanish flamenco free dance, which was created by a Spanish choreographer, I think.
In an IFS interview this season, Sara said that she may retire after this season. I wish she wouldn't, as I love her and Kirill, but anyhow that's what she said. So I think it's unlikely she would look for a new partner. If Kirill looks tired at times, well, he does have a newborn/toddler at home.![]()
My favourite FD however is from Lop/Bri. Sara and Kiril don't have the combined skills to really do that programme service.I agree! I must say though that I like both their programs this year. They have the potential to be great imo.
They often had the better material compared to the other ice dancers in Zhulin's team!
Right before the split after they skated at a competition at Quatre Glace in Pierrefonds, que....Hurtado had a hissy fit with Diaz with poor M.F. in the middle after they skated. It was not physical except for stamping and hand waving by the Diva.I don't know what mistake/or mistakes he might have made that made her blow her gasket but seriously I have watched her skate this yr. with current partner and she is always blowing her twizzles...not just a slight balance check but sometimes stumbling and almost falling. The weird thing is the judges r not penalizing her adequately for her messes. They dock a level but still give very high GOE's. So maybe Zulins political standing with the judges is the reason they are there. Their programs and their twizzles are very blah.Oh you know I did. It's just the Diaz swag playing tricks on my mind.

I know it was a different season entirely last year, and they did do the screening, I get it but... I think that I would have sent S/D to Worlds in 2021. Sara was coming back from injury and their RD was never a hit. While I personally didn't love S/D's programmes, the judges did like them. I think they would have managed to grab the top 10 spot as the grease RD would have set them up well for the free. Not that it matters now, but the pandemic really hasn't helped with the Spanish ID dilemma.I think both Spanish teams are pretty well balanced.
You get those moments. Those golden opportunities to pull ahead. Hurtado & Khaliavin had one at Finlandia this year. Smart & Diaz had one in Austria. Most of the time, teams don't grab those rare golden opportunities--maybe because they come along so rarely and that creates a great deal of pressure when they come along. Anyway, neither team grabbed said golden opportunity. Nor was either team at 100% last season when the real golden opportunity to earn two berths came up at Spanish Nationals & Worlds.
On the other hand, both teams did capitalize on opportunities this season. Smart & Diaz efficiently took out Fear & Gibson (and Davis & Smolkin) at Skate Canada. Hurtado & Khaliavin did take out Hawayek & Baker at Rostelecom.
Taking those results into account, along with Zagorski & Guerrero's questionable condition at the moment, it seems Spain is actually favored to finish in the top 10 at the Olympics and/or Worlds this year for the first time.
Though there are a whole lot of question marks in that zone right now.
*Note: Fear & Gibson defeated both Spanish teams at Finlandia, splitting dances with H&K & winning both dances over S&D there; then F&G defeated H&K in both dances at NHK. Hence, results this season are definitely split between the British & the Spanish dancers.
May be the same visa issue as Gabriella papadakis ...I think Smart & Diaz clearly had their own issues last year or would have shown up ready for Nationals. That they just didn't advertise whatever was going on.
British judge went for S/D by a "mile" (3 points) in PCS (he is #3 in the protocols). Olozagarre went for them by 0.75.H&K won the base value. It was the GOE and components that went to Smart & Diaz.
It was 0.38 points difference in BV, virtually tied.H&K won the base value. It was the GOE and components that went to Smart & Diaz.
I think mainly I'm used to Kaliszek & Spodyriev's scores being down early in the season and up late in the season because they always show up for their early CS or first GP event looking like they're not yet in shape, just learned the choreography in their programs, & are kind of praying to stay on their feet. Most top dancers don't compete at that stage of preparation. Maybe a summer club event on a scratchy feed. But obviously, it doesn't bother K&S to do so. I wonder if maybe their coach feels the only way to motivate them is to let them crash & burn if they aren't ready? Then they're usually ready by Rostelecom & Warsaw Cup; however, this season, they've had no time to get ready since they've been injured mid-season. I assume the free, in particular, still needs work. Is there a link to their FD performance in the Nationals thread? It was rather close between Kaliszek/Spodyriev and Taschlerova/Taschler in Senior. But we are used to K/S's scores being up and down all over the season according to the panels.
